  1. Anybody tested this driver in K-horn? I recall that it looked promising in sims. Regards, L
  2. Thanks, for replies and ideas . I need to ship from Detroit to Seatle. I'd drive resonable distance to avoid shipping but it's just too far. I need to quote for shipping but never shipped freight and crating seems like over $100 just in materials and probably a day of work.Am I right to estimate one bass bins weight at 120 LBS packed on pallete?
  3. I had one of those. Pleasant monster it was. If I ever own a bigger house I'll have a pair in the corners;)
  4. Those are compound 828 re-entrant horns .The drivers are attached to the plastic tubes with folded tunel inside (360 degree fold ) and then they exaust (fire) to the back of big wooden 200Hz horn (soundwaves bounce and exit trough the mouth of the horn) .To use compression driver in Midbass band require a long horn so to fit the cabinet they just folded it that way. The cavity you see all those drivers mounted is a mouth of midbass horn. The horn in the middle is a mid-horn used from 600Hz up to 3.5Khz Regards, L
  5. Does anybody has recent experience with shippingK-Horns?? I will be shipping only Bass Bins. Which service , how to pack etc.? Regards , L
  6. Thanks Bob At first the crossovers values seemed odd to me but I put some of them into the online crossover calculator and they started to make a more sense. Paul Eizik from vintage asylum pointed that it's "constant K " type and that they used combination of parts values to keep inventory smaller. I read comments on Patrician being " harsh in mid-high "section and boomy on bass. AS to the bass, while I have 18Wk woofers I'm going to use Klipschorn bass bins (at first ) -they should match my room better . I made low-mid (828 double reentrant horns) 200 Hz horn bigger ,meaning I kept all original dimensions accept vertical plane is now symmetrical (while originally bottom of horn was flat 90 degree ) resulting in 1/3 rd bigger mouth (still undersized for 200Hz cut-off ) should result in less honk. I noticed that mid- horn 6HD throat to driver transition is ragged with edges and a 3/8 gap which probably greatly contributes to perceived harshness , also mouth termination is sharp and abrupt , I am going to address those issues . I never liked T-35 that much and I'm going to use T-350 (without the mounting bracket creating sharp edges too) .Finally I will take the mid-horn and tweeter out of the mid -bass mouth and stack it with the arrangement ;Klipschorn, mid- horn, tweeter, mid-bass. Regards, L P.s Once I recover financially a little bit I'll think of those nice cast frame woofers for Klipsches.
  7. I was going to use variac in the case of electrolityc caps and run the voltage up to the max. regards
  8. Thank you !!! I see there is no electrolytic caps to re-form just oils. Even though K-33E woofer's DCR is close to 18 Wk (3.4 ohm) .Impedance in horn must differ because I've seen 7.6mH coil in 200 Hz (6dB) network and Patrician only has 4.78mH (I measured 4.11 mH ) . Are all the drivers connected in phase ? I assume T1 speaker tab is + and T2 - right?? I also assume 828 low mids are in parallel ? Best regards, L
  9. Hi there My Klipschorn /Lowther experiment turned out to be a dead fish. I decided to marry bass bins with EV Patrician IV upper section . Over the years I collected all parts including original crossovers . The parts date stamps are from 1956-58 . I don't want to open the cans (they are sealed with tar ) and replace capacitors , better to reform existing ones (if possible ). Anybody familiar with the parts they were using back then? (type of bipolar capacitors and working voltage ?). My metter measures 35uF first midbass high pass capacitor (little low for 200Hz crosspoint) Another option is to build modern version of crossover but I don't have schematic -could you help ? I posted it in a few places and sent emailes around -with little luck so far. Regards, L
  10. Hi I'd like to passively cross Klipschorn bass bins at around 200-250HZ (6dB ) and I don't have a signal generator at this moment.Does anybody know what driver (approximate )impedance should I use in calculation and how efficient would bass horn be in that range .(I use stock k33E driver and bins are factory made probably in 60's )Regards,L
  11. Hi there Finally I put klipschorn bass bins in the corners.Since my dedicated 300BXL LF channel is not ready yet I borrowed an active crossover and Teac T-amp to run Bass and used my existing ( F& 300B on Azuras with fostex 208 .I set up crossover on 200Hz for Bass and crossed tweeter at ~9K Hz .So far it is the most enjoyable sound I had in my house.I was listening for half of the night and whole day.I think I'm going to get a "horn fever";0)
  12. Dr. I agree that 400-4K MF would be nice but I read that Klipshorn has a strong "anomalies" in 200-400Hz region which I'd like to avoid .I mostly listen off-axis. I just can't force myself to sit still in the middle of the room.I will experiment with the crossover and placement of MH HF horns. My main concern was a space restriction for K-horn (although the room itself is not that small and I can sit 20' away from horns). Rgards L
  13. Thanks ! I do have solid corners ,but they are only 10' apart .(the kitchen short wall (11ft) divide and separate my living room creating a two niches in 21x21 space) As far as I know drivers in complete Klipschorn are not phase and time aligned so I thought that you ,in this forum, tell me that it isn't that important :0)) . The tractrix horn is ORIS type -AZURA horn precisely and with fostex driver I was told that it has a band 200- 10k and after that it drops like stone. I don't feel comfortable running single horn so wide. As to the crossover ,since all the channels have the same or close efficiency 103 dB I'll try to use 6db on woofer and 6db on tweeter running mid horn wide open.Regards, Wojtek
  14. Hi guys, I'm about to buy a pair of factory Klipschorn bass bins which supposedly were built in 70's (along the way someone took out the MF-HF section and crossover) and try it with 200 Hz tractrix horn (fostex 208Ez ) and Jensen rp-103 tweeter.Klipschorn is equipped with K-33 woofer. The problem is that although the living room is 21'x21, the wall creating kitchen niche restrict placement to 10' corner to corner. The wall are drywall . What cross frequency would you recommend .Should I modify the bins in any way? Passive filtering with a choke or line crossover .I'm building a dedicated LF channel (300BXL -15W SET) do drive bass. How critical is phasing problem in 200Hz range . Regards.L
  15. OK! Since you guys know that I'm not a vintage K-Horn butcher (k-5-j)are there any Patrician Iv owners to help me with setup? What amp should I use?
