  1. Real, really, really nice!

    Take some after pictures!!!

Sorry about that, I have been listening for 24 hours straight, NO [bs]. So I'm winding down, big day at work tomorrow, so here are so with the speakers in place. The DCR bass bins are still raw and will be finished over Labor Day weekend with Luther's help. The 402 horns are raw as well and those will be finished with high grade german auto Laq just like the those high dollar german horns are done (the ones that go for over 100K, name escapes me right now). I'm not sure of a color yet, maybe deep burgandy, Luther suggested garnet.

I will post more photos after when each phase is done.

Here is the first of a few more.

  2. Well I finally got around to getting my DCR Jubilles set up, with a lot of help. The DCR KPT-KHJ bass bins are made of African Mahogany, I wanted them in a more exotic finish grade wood because the way my room is situated the first thing you see when you come in is the entire right side of the right speaker.
I ordered them about last Feb. or March ('08), Roy Delgado had to pull many strings and go an extra country mile to get these done in exotic plywood and I can not thank him enough. In order to do this he had to redo the cut list (step by step instructions for production team) several times. They are normally 3/4" ply painted in textured black paint and so the existing cut list did not take into account wood grain or other cosmetic factors. In addition, Roy wanted to change the bracing to make it stiffer, and some other minor changes. I'm not sure, but I think there were a couple of "prototypes" that were done before mine were finalized, and mine were built and arrived at the house in around March of this year, where they sat in my garage up until now, much to my wife's chagrin.
Eric (SynthFreak) and Luther (Wardsweb) came over yesterday evening to help me get them up the stairs and all hooked up. MeLovesKHorns was on call delivering babys so he missed out on the fun. I was opening the boxes in great anticipation to see if those boxes really contain what they said they contain. As you can see from the posted photos they did in fact contain what they were supposed to.
There are a lot of settings to enter on the EV DX-38 crossover, but Eric is a Pro and had everything entered by 11 p.m. and music was rolling. Eric wen home about 2 a.m. and Luther and I listend until about 4 a.m. What incredible sound, I feel so dumb for missing out on this quality while they sat for 5 months. I will be getting the bass bins finished over Labor Day, and the 402 horns will be finished at a friend of Luther's who owns a hign end automotive finish company.
Here are some photos to show the process.

  3. Well, I still enjoyed reading mine. It does have the information in it. It just is written more like a technical report rather than a book. Right now there is nothing better.

I'm not so sure about that, I know what you are saying Mark, I did enjoy a few parts of it, but the patent's are more interesting and better written than the body of the book.

  4. So how are doves with bacon?

Like Gilbert said, dove breasts (which is the only part worth eating, and it takes 20 to make a meal), are great with bacon. Heck, why BS, they taste just like liver and the only way to make them edible is to wrap them in bacon, slap on a jalopeno pepper, and grill 'em. Most with have at it like this and gnaw them down to the bone. I prefer to remove the bacon and the pepper, eat those, and toss the breasts to the dogs.

I much prefer ostrich over dove any day.

  5. I'm more in the "one star" camp than the 3 stars you gave, but I do agree with you that there are a few wonderful passages in the book and a few very interesting tidbits. For instance, there is a wonderful section about the Jubilee, and about Roy's work with Paul on that project that is not contained anywhere else that I am aware of. Roy wrote an excellent piece that is in the book that discussed this subject.

The book is just so poorly written, and it so clearly a vainity book, right down to the rubber stamp signature of Mr. Klipsch that Miss V put in herself, and her signature as well. The whole thing is just really sad on so many levels. In my opinion, a mediocre book about a great man does the man more of a diservice than to honor him.

LarryC knows the authors I believe, and Dr. Larry is mentioned in the book, so it is worth the price just for that fact alone.

  6. I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with VHS to DVD recorders. I have several hundred old VHS videotapes of clients doing Field Soberity Tests and they are taking up way too much space. We keep them around because we cross-reference them by arresting officer, etc. and I want my staff to convert them to DVD.

So I'm looking for somthing that has good dubbing quality, ease of use, reliable, etc.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Travis

  7. J

BTW there is no such thing as the Mafia. In an unrelated question does anyone know of a good resturant that does not believe gravy is Ketchup?

    JB,

I'm with you all the way on that. Where are you located and I will give you a list of 'em. If you are every in Dallas you need to try my wife's familys place, Campisi's.

  8. Wow what a day! I just got in from scoring these industral Lascalla's off Craigs list.I thought the add was proably a miss print of $300.00. The add was placed at 4am & said please do not call untill after noon. Well of course I start calling at 8am ever 10 minutes. finally make contact at noon, but the guy says they are alredy sold!I I ask has the buyer picked them up yet? Seller says no, I say I will double your asking price ($60.000 he says I will call you back returns call says other buyer will pay $200.00. I say let me come look & see if I want to match offer I am flying & get there in 5 minutes. Could not hear them play but decide to risk it & pay the guy.Get them back to the shop ever thing seems good except for one tweeter (K77) open windings.

Only one speaker has a sereal # 8600108, croosovers are type AL. What year mdl. are they & is there a more preferrable croosover type? They are deffineatly not a matching pair - one has the metal corner & edge guards the other does not it also has more tapered edges on on the motor board of speaker openings.

I am pumped but exhausted, will post some pictures soon.

    Cornman

  9. Maybe this guy should just hire the lawyer that represented NFL player Donte Stallworth. For those that have not followed the story, this is the player that was DUI and killed a pedestrian. He was given 30 days in jail, which is really 24 with time served, 1000 hours community service, and 10 YEARS probation.

I guess at first glance the 30 days really sticks out. Upon further reasoning, the 10 years of probation is probably what will get this character in trouble. People rarely think of the ramifications of these "plea" deals because their whole purpose is to avoid jail time. Most likely with the probation will come drug testing in some form. These are generally set up to get the "perp" to violate the terms of probation and generate cash flow for the city. I think this is where he will see more jail time, on a probation violation. Think good and long before agreeing to a "plea".

I thought it was 8 years probation and two years house arrest, but no matter, that would never happen for you or me. The thing that is missing is that he settled a civil case as part of it and the family of the victim was pleading with the DA that they wanted it behind him and no prison time. Which I guess was part of the deal on the civil case, that the family beg and pled he not go to prison.

  10. I don't recall my friend mentioning an offer to consult an attorney. He "blew over", as the saying goes, and was given an instant 24-hour roadside licence suspension. There may have been a fine as well, I don't recall. I had to ride to the rally site and find another friend with a bike to come back to the spot and ride drunken buddy's bike, while drunken buddy got on the back of my bike for the ride to the rally. That kind of shot the weekend, since he couldn't get his licence back until the following afternoon, when the rally was mostly over. I had to ride him to the Provincial Police station to retrieve it.

That is incredible, the road side breath test (PBT) is different then the test at the station. Here he would have been take to jail, we have never had a 24 roadside suspension, it was and still it go straight to jail, and then it starts from there. I have never heard of being let go at the scene, that is pretty cool.
