  1. TauRus. Thanks for the input, your probably right on most counts plus a few other things. I listened to CD's tonite and it sounded much better, is there a break-in period with these units? I think my biggest problem is that my old SA6500 that I have been using all these years is a little muted or put more politely "warm" sounding. And since I naturally tune in to bass it was a good fit for me, by the time I cranked it up to the volume of bass I wanted the mids and highs would finally come thru, and I just got used to it. So when I hooked up a system the way it was supposed to sound my ears were not ready for it. The source last nite was satellite radio which I input thru DBS, correct? I also overestimated the Pure-Direct mode which is what I used when I compared it to the Pioneer with tone at 0db. The 3803 sounded better in stereo mode and i will just have to notch up the bass control a little for personal taste. Most of my other gear including interconnects is crap until I can upgrade everything. It was the end of a long day by the time I got it working and my patience was thin, I think I just need a few days to get to know how to operate it. It's good to read raves from other Denon owners. I may have to give Yamaha a listen though...I have 30 days to decide.
  2. Advise please! I am a rookie in this HT world and the last amp I purchased was just after the last moon landing- a Pioneer.I am at work now so must keep it short. I recently picked up a pair of RF-35's and that's all it took, it's like listening for the first time again! I haven't laid on the floor for hours listening to music since my youthful party days. After weeks of reading these forums, reviews, and store visits. I finally picked up a new AVR-3803 for $750 and a RC-25 to begin building my system(I know, they're supposed to match but my credit card was getting cold feet, and I have 30 days to upgrade). My problem is after setting it up last night I have major reservations about the sound-it just sounds tinny. There is no bass, it sounds weak and this is with the Pure-direct on, which is a feature that really sold me on this unit. All 3 speakers are set to "large". The antique Pioneer to me sounded great but thats the sound i'm used to. Is this that incompatability problem that crops up once in a while? How does yours sound? The dealer even told me that when I purchased the speakers and I was looking at Denon. Thanks much, someday I'll get around to a proper intro on the forum and start a profile.
  3. Speaking of vintage...I currently drive my brand new RF35's with a Pioneer SA 6500 which I acquired as loan repayment back in the day. Was/Is this a worthy unit? It cuts out on one side occasionally but comes back if I toggle a switch or too. Although it hasn't done so lately. It's been on constantly since I picked up decent speakers.
