  1. >Use the dealer locater on the web page to find an authorized dealer. I tried that, it only works in my local zip code, not US wide. There is a dealer here, Best Buy but I would never again buy from them. I've re-thought the question and will replace my center first. It's a JBL, a good speaker, but all cone types, I get more sound with it off but when I finally get my new "real" surround receiver installed I won't be able to turn off the center. (my old receiver is Dolby Pro Logic 1 1/2.) So I am looking for a Klipsch center. Thanks!
  2. Hi gang, I am looking for 2 or 4 horn loaded surrounds like the SS-1 or SS-3. Can anyone point me to a dealer, preferable web? Thanks!
  3. Hey gang, I have been upgrading my system for several months now. One item I bought is the $149 Pioneer "Universal" disc player. It's very good, great dynamic range, transient and frequency response. I then bought a collection of SACDs and DVD-As. I prefer the DVD-A format, you get more: multi-channel (SACD is 2 ch.), some discs offer several options for screen display, fine art, lyrics, cover note extracts, biographys. In a general sense, as from the start of HiFi, the mic placement and mix vary from poor to excellent for both formats. I find more difference in mic/mix than between the SACD and DVD-A discs. As far as the usefulness of multi-channel vs stereo, as already been said by other members, music recordings don't always benefit from it. In my case, however, I have a number of "live" performances which properly miked and mixed benefit greatly from surround. I think DVD-A will win out over SACD. But there is a disadvantage to multi channel vs stereo run through Dolby Pro Logic in a good receiver/amp. You may lose some control. My reading the specs and manuals on the various pieces of multi channel gear lead me to belive things like parametric equalizers and relative gain for the various channels may be lost to the user. The sound is forced to be like the director "intended" vs the way you might like it or your room demands. Because of the mic/mix problem mentioned above, I often change front or rear balance, front to rear balance or equalization on the fly but I don't have a warm feeling that my new multi channel outfit will allow that. As for CD "sound" vs vinyl vs SACD vs DVD-A, I find the CD inferior to the new and oldest formats. I'm still buying LPs. CDs fall down for me when there are high frequency sharp transient times in the performance. This often happens in my classical material and have you listened to the latest incarnation of "Tubular Bells"? })
  4. Hi guy, There is a guy here in MD that repairs woofers. It's expensive, minimum I think is $150.Let me know if you want his number. Can you get to the woofer cone? If so, carefully press on the cone with both thumbs, one at 3 O'Cloak and one at 9. Be as even as you can. Move the cone inwards about the same as a normal excursion. If you hear or feel any noise the voice coil has warped due to overheating. I recommend replacing the woofer if it is bad (or have the same thing done to both woofers). Repaired woofers always sound different then before the fix. Given this, even a different brand woofer would be about the same difference.
  5. Howdy Gang, Does anyone know the net weight on the RS-25 and 35 respectively? Thanks!

On a different note - anybody catching any of those tasty crustaceans down your way yet? I can't wait to hit the water and lay out a trot line. ---------------- I have gotten a bit old and have given up my boat but I well know the sentiment. How can something so ugly taste so good?

  9. I've got to find out if I have room first. I know they are bigger than my EV horns but not by how much. Veener is no problem. I just happen to have a ton of it and the ability to apply.
  10. Hey, I live in Maryland! These are MINE! MINE! Youse guys lay off! }) Seriously, how much do you guys think they are worth?

I'd have to do away with the 12" and build a box for a 6 or 8" I suppose. But 58lbs my shelf could not take. Anyone know how difficult a Hersey is to open up?
  12. Thanks guys, I believe you are correct on using the Hersey as a center for my Aristocrats. There is a problem with size and weight though, it's both too large and too heavy to go into the space where the JBL is. Oh well, there is always the floor.
  13. Yes, the TW35 is the Wolverine. The bell, however is quite different than the T35. It has "baffles" in the throat which, in my opinion, gives it a better dispersion pattern. While the T35 is a vertical mount, the TW35 is horizontal. At one time I had a pair of EV Marquis which was the along-the-wall version of the Aristocrat. I built these from kits and used all Wolverine drivers. Later, the Aristocrats came to me for free. They were from two "trade ins" from guys upgrading to stereo. What I have is not a TW35 but the TW35 bell with a Klipsch Heresy driver/magnet assembly bolted on (the big square driver, much heavier than the Wolverine). Since the holes are an exact match and the results are so good, I suspect that Klipsch made the Heresy tweeter this way. I am hoping to find another speaker like it for the other channel. I'll check out the Klipsch Heresy for a center. Thanks! })
  14. Howdy, I am upgrading my home theater system and have a question regards which center to buy. I have a pair of 50 year old EV Aristocrats corner horns. The drivers are Bozak 12" woofers, EV 1823 + horn mid range and EV TW35 tweeter bells with Heresy drivers. I bought a JBL 3 way center and the results are dismal. Most of the time I run with the center off (phantom mode) and the EV horns easily provide crisp highs. The JBL just has no high end. I suppose the difference arises out of the JBL using cone type mid and tweeter. I bought the JBLs through the web, I selected them because in days gone by JBL has had a reputation of the best high end sound for cone type speakers and I didn't know that Klipsch was still around.(EV still makes horns but not for home use, they are huge! I am getting up there in age and am plesantly surprised that I can still enjoy home audio, but I need good strong upper mid range and a sweeter tweeter }) So, am I nuts to think that a Klipsch center will come closer to the performance I seek than the JBL? I am basing my theory on the horn type upper range speaker. Which Klipsch would you recommend? Also, would the JBL suffice for a center rear speaker? (I have a JVC AVR which provides rear center output at pre-amp level only.) I will be using a separate amp which will allow more control of the channel. Thanks!
