  1. ok, this is way out of my comfort zone with seperates, but with audio and video changing as quickly as it is it just makes sense to consider seperates. Have seen Emotiva brand but like i said this is way out of my comfort zone with so many different options. Was thinking of just getting the onkyo tx nr-5008 but if going to fork out around $2000 i would like some advice first. OR another option if i dont fork out all the cash now i could just get the onkyo tx nr-808. anyway any suggestions are very appreciated.
  2. forgot to mention that i do have a sub, svs sb12-plus, which i am thoroughly pleased with. i thinki just need to get a new receiver for what i am wanting. plus a new receiver has all of the new hdmi conversions and stuff. but will be disapointed if not much better. but if someone else has had any luck with what i am asking it will be greatly appreciated. Oh, on the movies i was talking about with the music too loud is there a way to get a different movie so it will not have that?
  3. Ok, edited this post a few times trying to explain completely. I have finally come to the point i need help because cannot set speakers "correctly" I have used microphone to correctly set equal volume but center channel background sound too loud in movie or tv and voices are just not loud enough. Especially dvds on ps3 or regular dvd player, example on movie matrix music gets WAY too loud and even background sounds drown out voices. My speakers are Klipsch reference series, all same level reference (think these are correct names), rf-82 towers, rc-62 center, rs-10 surround. Even surround isnt as noticeable as i believe it should be. I have sony str-897 receiver with and not sure if receiver just isnt good enough for what i want. has these sound settings : Dolby Digital EX, DTS ES, and DTS Neo6, along with the usual 5.1 formats dolby Digital and DTS, as well as Dolby Pro Logic IIspecs: I do not know what the he** settings is what best for ps3 games , blue ray, dvr, etc. Thank you for any advice.
  4. thanks for all your responses, my main problem now after having the sub a few years is that it is so large that the size thing is wearing off. I want a smaller sub and have orderded the sb12 plus. they have a 45 day guarantee and if i dont like it then i can send it back. i am worried about the sound not "hitting" the right places in the room due to waves. Does anyone know the wave lengths? Hopefully they will be smaller so will be enjoyed around whole room. Does another sub fit this description? I use this sub not nearly enough to even power turn up. thanks for your help.
  5. I currently own the 25-31 pc plus but it is extremely powerful but extremely large. I wanted your opinion on what you think of the sb 12 plus vs the sound of the 25-31 and especially say i didnt own either one what would your opinion be?.
  6. i am at work so do have exact number for sony receiver right now. Currently have klipsch rf-35 complete set (excluding sub) tower, rear surround, center channel. Anyway I purchased a samsung 50" led tv and want to purchase a new receiver with hdmi to convert signals to 1080p hdmi. Want to spend around $1500, i guess that would be a good starting pointing, would pay more but if that is an over kill please let me know. I do not want a receiver where you have to be a rocket scientist to use. One that is the most friendly automatic setup if possible. Also have another question while i have your attention, why are some movies have the sound really low when voices are going but then a door can close in movie or just background sounds dround out voices. Thank you for any advice you can give me.
  7. Well have been doing some research and it seems like the ten inch subs are only good for small to medium sized rooms. I have a fairly large den with ten foot ceilings, so that is going to be a lot of airspace. I guess will have to get a 12" to fill room up but I am no expert so will this matter much? When they say only good for small to medium rooms will i lose a lot of sound with the ten" sub? When i do this i want to do it right so please any advice is much appreciated.
  8. I really like the SVS tube subs but dang they are all 16" diameter and even though it comes as short as 32" it is still large. But I do want a real good pounding and deep sub. Am I just going to have to bite the bullet and get a 12" or is there another route i can go? I want to spend around $600 I really dont have the room for a large sub box, just an eye sore in my den, i have the two reference towers and could put the tube between tower and tv but still an eye sore. I would rather have eye sore with great sub than settling for an ok sub that is small. Anyways thank you for any advice you can give me.
  9. I have bought my speakers one section at a time so I could get what I wanted. The reference front towers with rs surrounds and rc center. Anyhow, finally going to get my sub and due to lack of room for a square sub box, going to need a tube 10" but if i have to go with 12" i will. Wanting to spend around $500 maybe up to $700.00. Is this possible to get a nice sounding sub or should I wait until I can spend more and nice sounding I mean rattle my house if possible. Ty for any insight you can lend my way. Was looking at the svs but if i was looking right all they have is 12" woofers, i really dont have the room since they have diameter of 16" but if that is what i have to do I'll do it, ty for any advice you can throw my way. OH and is there really that much difference in sound between a 10 and 12?
  10. sorry should have specified, he loves my klipsch but doesnt have to have klipsch. Just a home theatre system under $750 and prefer around $500, thanks again.
  11. My dad loves my Klipsch surround system, so now he is wanting me to help him purchase and set up his own surround system. I could do a week worth of research or ask the experts here so here goes. He is wanting to spend around $500 for an entire system, including receiver. Is this possible? I have looked at a few setups but there is no customer reviews of them and could possibly be crap. thank you for any assistance you can send my way.
  12. I am putting together my theater and thank you for the help you just gave on my rs35's. Anyway i was listening to a movie and during a fight scene I leaned downward and the bass was incredible. I was basically right in front of the speaker 9 feet away. Is tilting a speaker back common, or just not done? What are the dos and do nots of speaker tilting
  13. wow 2 awesome recommendations. Took your advice and lowest i could drop them were 7' due to a door frame under one, and the cloud of sound not a laser beam hit it on the spot for what surround is all about. Thanks guys!
  14. Question is this: Have the reference 35 series - center, floor, surround. And the surround sit about 8 feet off the ground facing each other about 20 feet apart. Should I mount speakers on a mounting bracket and angle them downward for better sound? They sound pretty good now but didnt know if sound was getting put over our heads.
  15. Thank you for your input, several different ideas and I will see which ones will work best with my setup. Thanks again and if anyone else has anymore ideas keep em rolling
  16. Also forgot to mention i have xbox 360, ps2, dvd, dvd/vcr, tivo. Hope this helps
  17. I love my Klipsch reference set up, however my wife doesnt always want to listen to her shows with all the speakers running and would just like to use the tv speakers. My question is this, my receiver is a sony str-de897, how do I wire it so wife can listen to tivo or kids can listen to their dvd movies on tv and then later if I want to listen to it on speakers it will work also? Also, I did not want the tv to control the receivers volume, have had it in the past so the tv volume dictated how loud the receiver would go, so both the tv speakers and klipsch were running same, sucked. So that's it, i would like to either use speakers or tv indepently of each other and use whichever ones I want whenever i want. Thank you so much for any info you may have!! Forgot to mention, my tv is hitachi 50" 50v500.
  18. I have bought my speakers once section at a time so I could get what I wanted. The reference front towers with rs surrounds and rc center. Anyhow, finally going to get my sub and due to lack of room for a square sub box, going to need a tube sub 10" or 12". Wanting to spend around $500 maybe up to $700.00. Is this possible to get a nice sounding sub or should I wait until I can spend more and nice sounding I mean rattle my house if possible. Ty for any insight you can lend my way
  19. Have the reference series front to back, rf 35s, rs 35s and big mama jamma center channel up front. My question is about my receiver, I have a sony str-de897 and I am trying to decipher all the different terms as it seems to be its own language. So I have it set to auto detect incoming sound sources, but I discovered the other night I went under the right surround during the thx theme and it was playing the same volume for both sides. I believe my speakers are playing same volume and I cant figure out how to be "surround" Thanks for any info or where to steer me.
  20. Finally got all the right speakers and now need some advice on speaker wire gauge and brand. Center channel is ref rc10 which will use about 10' of cable. Floorstanding speakers are rf-35 and will use around 10' of cable also per speaker. Surround speakers are rs-10 and will use about 50' of cable each. Was reading in the manual about recommended speaker wire gauge and it says 16. Is lower better or will there not be any noticeable difference? I had a lower gauge and better wire on my towers before i moved everything around and now have 16 gauge and believe also cheap brand of wire and I can tell a noticeable difference. Any help would be much appreciated.
  21. Currently own pair rf35's, rs35's and about to own rc35. Need a sub to finish theater system and something I need to know is which sub to get to compliment my reference's. Dont have much space left either so that is a major concern because I want to shake the house if I need to but not have a sub the size of my end table.. So need something that rattles the house but space saving. I appreciate any advice you could send my way
  22. I am using the quintet center speaker for center channel, sorry for not making that clear.
  23. Purchased rf 35 floor speakers and for surround the quintet II set about 2 years ago, well have tinkered with settings and finally came to realize the rf 35 are just a lot more powerful than the quintets and therefore I am getting really SUCKY surround, barely can even hear surround speakers. Am wondering if I am expecting too much out of my speakers by expecting more "surround" or I need to bite the bullet and purchase the reference surrounds and center. My main question is I already invested money in quintets and will lose rear selling them but will the reference series be worth the money?? I absolutely love my floor speakers and do not want to sell entire sound system, but I never listen to them. I dont want to purchase these nicer speakers, not really get that much more sound and then be mad i spent that much more money. Thank you for any advice you can give
  24. Have klipsch reference series rf-35 front towers with klipsch quintet microtheatre (four surrounds and center channel). anyway, the front towers seem to drown out the rest of the speakers and I dont get much sound at all from the rest of the quintets, have to turn them almost all the way up to hear them well. Are the front towers just that much better, or are the quintets just that bad? I have the sony str de897 and you can adjust the output of each speaker, so I have the surrounds set at +10 for the most output, but I still do not get the "surround" effect.
  25. I contacted the factor about this problem, and all I had to do was reset my settings on receiver. Must have been something I pressed.
