  1. My guess would have been very warm water on a heavy paper towel with a little simple green. That stuff works great on everything, best since duct tape. )
  2. Hey for anyone like me who did not want to set their RC-7 on the top of the TV or use a floor stand(tough with little kids), Home Depot has a Wall Mountable TV stand in black or Silver(AVF 750) that is 24" wide and supports 110 pounds. The depth is about 1" shallow to cover the whole speaker but when spread to the 24" width it comes just inside the grill pegs. Put on the grill and SWEET. You can place the speaker on a 6 degree downward slope against a front lip to direct the speaker slightly. I set mine up last night, I can try and post pics if anyone is interested. Anyone searching like I was for a while, thumbs up. They have smaller versions also, but the 750 will support up to a 27" TV. The dimensions seemed to work ideally for the RC-7!
  3. Agreed, well put Griff. HDTV does completely rock, we see the market changing already as prices drop. When your ready to dive in, enjoy. I got into it when we only had 2 HD channels, now we have all the majors. Initially it was cool for DVD's, then the HD stuff just - well incredible!
  4. Hey gang, Currently I just have 12 gauge wire with bare connectors from my Denon 3805 to the RF7's, what would you guys recommend for wire upgrades(Monster 1.5's, biwire vs. single, spades vs. bananas, .....). I will be adding an amp(200x5) soon. I'm open to opinions let 'em fly. Thanks. )
  5. Sea Island, GA. I might have to check that place out. Looks real nice.
  6. damonrpayne, Yeah I finally got a hold of one today, we're going to get together next week and see if I can compare. Thanks for all the input everyone. )
  7. Pete, I'm a newbie to this forum also, I have experience with both Polk and Klipsch. My one setup is a 7.1 Polk setup which provides decent sound especially for the deal I got on them. The Klipsch setup is not a fair comparison because its a ref. series and blows the Polks away. Long story short I don't hate either one. One company(Klipsch) makes higher end and try to make speakers more affordable, the other(Polk) makes affordable speakers and is trying to go higher end(LSi). Speakers are very subjective to opinion, I love the Klipsch Ref. series. The polks can be pretty good too(check out the RTi series). Listen and decide. Yamaha receivers, depends on the model but I had a Yamaha hooked up to my Klipsch refs briefly and it sounded great. I still replaced it with a Denon though. Here opinions may be biased of course, but the bottom line is as many have said try and get into the Ref. line if at all possible. A friend of mine has a sweet Polk RTi setup but its no Klipsch ref. series. My opinion, take your favorite CD that you are familiar with and try both. P.S. BB sound room does suck. Hopefully the speakers and not the soundroom effect your judgement too much.
  8. Hi, thumbs up to Denon. I have the 3802 and 3805. Like MrMcGoo said you may be able to snag a deal on the 1804. Or check out www.audiogon.com and see if someone is unloading a 38xx or 48xx denon. Check this out - http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1092334793 I agree with MrMcGoo, the 38xx series is the best happy medium.
  9. I've been wanting to listen to Aragon for a while, but getting someone in my area to actually commit to listening and selling one(all contractors - no retail).... The B&K I can get locally, I've listened to and like a lot. I agree with you on buying locally, important here to.... Although onecall.com has been tempting sometimes. :o/
  10. MrMcGoo, Well put, I appreciate the #'s. You've been a huge help. My addiction to this forum is not going to be good for my wallet.
  11. Anyone know what impedance the RF7, RC7, and RS7 speakers drop too(minimum impedance)?
  12. Quick Poll, which Amp is better for the RF7, RC7, RS7 setup in 5.1 - Aragon 2005 B&K 2005 I started a new thread to hopefully get a quick poll and then the thread will disappear. Plus the amp options have limited down to these two, I think. :o/ Let's try to stick to these two amps.

Thanks, the SVS do seem popular. Probably decide soon.
  14. MrMcGoo, Probably worth a shot. Worse they can say is no, get lost. Hehe.
  15. This may be a question for moderators, can we list this as a sticky. Some forums allow hot topics that are ongoing or useful to many to always be at the top of the list. Maybe we could keep a list of the greatest. Not sure if this BB software can do that but would be sweet. Kinda like an FAQ. ? Would be cool to see a compiled list with rankings based on how many people gave it thumbs up. With this getting larger some DVD's mentioned may get lost. Dunno? If you need someone to maintain the list let me know.
  16. MrMcGoo, Yeah I was taking a peak at it, but requires a 20amp outlet. I did not run a 20amp line for that area. I almost did but well, what can I do. It would be a major hastle to do it now that the rock is up. I thought the CG II was supposed to have current outputs for the first three LCR. Hmmmm. Well if you never plan on using it - won't matter. Their(onecall) 17" Sunfire version is not really all that of a deal, the 19" deal they had going was pretty sweet. I'm going to give Aragon one more chance tomorrow, then decide between them and B&K. Enjoy. Oh yeah, did you ever notice what the current draw was at the outlet during normal use?
  17. nuclearay If you are 12 - 14' away and want to stick around 2k I would recommend trying to compare the following - Mitsu 48413(NOT 48313) or the Hitachi 51S500, you can go bigger but believe it or not there is such a thing as too big if you care about clarity based on how close you are to the TV. Some URL's - Hitachi $1799 ($200 off) - http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&u=c&qp=0051905370734&bookmark=bookmark_0&oid=74886&catoid=-8041&m=0 Mitsu - I think Tweeter had it for $1499 this week, $500 off. They don't list it online. Do you have a Tweeter locally? Here's my two cents from experience - Room dimensions 14' x 20' sitting position approximately 14'. The 43" fits the room perfectly, so bright I can't watch it with the lights off withoug glowing. My sitting position with the 55 Mitsu is about 17' - 18' and works really well but the room is much wider. The 55 would be overwhelming in the spot where I have my 43, likewise the 43 would not be as impressive where the 55 is located. OK, Clarity. I've had HD for two years now. Its down right impressive on the 43", normal(non HD) TV is clean(not grainy). My kitchen backs up to the room and I can watch clearly from 27' away and the screen is outstanding(can clearly tell if the ladies think its too cold on camera, boink cutting glass). Now the 55" looks great from all distances, especially from 15'+. Its a monster, beware swell factor they don't seem THAT big in the store(once you enter the front door, vavooom). For normal TV(non HD) the screen appears a little less crisp then the 43" but that is 480i spread wider on a bigger screen(to be expected but thought you should be aware of it if not already, if I didn't have them so close to compare I would not notice. I would not sweat it either way, but a heads up). In HD the 55", I watched the playoff game and I wanted to block Shaq's shot during the game myself. Throw a fro' on me and a headband, Ben Wallace sending the ball to the third row of seats. OM. Flap, flap. The 43" is beautiful, the 55" in HD was....(words can't do it justice). So I guess based on experience, both TV's rock in their own realm/room. Size DOES matter, don't let anyone fool you. Too much size can be bad unless you are going for the impression or bragging rights. Based on your room I would start on the 48 - 51's and decide on bigger or smaller. Unfortunately the sub-48's that Hitachi makes are not the same caliber they were when I got mine 2 years ago. The UWX(Ultravision) 43 was replaced by a lower model, very unfortunate. Mitsu makes a 42 that may be cool, but if I were choosing right now based on whats available and your seating position I would try and score the Mitsu 48413(1499), then the Hitachi 51S500. Save the balance of the 2k for more audio toys or cables. ) A friend of mine went with the 51S500 when CC had a really good deal on it and she loves it. Both have DVI, Mitsu clearly states in its manual that it recommends component inputs over the DVI interface unless using their tuner with RS232 controller. I've heard mixed opinions on DVI, both TV's listed here have it. I use component ONLY for both. I've seen DVI make a difference on LCD's personally, supposedly plasma too. Don't think you can go wrong with either, just comes down to $$(best deal). DVI cables are $$, I would start component cables then decide. Let me know how you make out. )
  18. Ditto. Agree with Griff.... You might be able to score a 2803 on closeout.
  19. michael hurd put it really well. On the RF's you could run seperate Amp power for Highs and Lows to have each partition(High/Mid or Low) draws its own juice but at full frequency. The internal crossover will split the signal. Opinions vary on how much you will notice the difference with the same amplifier pushing both partitions. If you were to send a warm tube like amp power to high/mids and a ss to the low you could notice a diffence based on the different characteristics of the amps. Given a 3805 and biamping, I have not tried it with mine - best guess - I don't know how it could make a huge diffence unless the impedance is so different between the upper and lower end that the seperate sections pull more juice. Can't hurt to try, just some extra speaker wire. But from a theory basis I would be surprised to see a significant difference. True Bi-amping with external crossovers prior to amplification is a whole 'nother story and big fat wallet. That would entail the high/mid section to only amplify those frequencies and push it to the driver, same for low end. Would be very cool to do, but not happening with me. (
  20. Well you picked two good TV's, although with Father's Day here you may be able to get some deals. Tweeter, Boscov's etc... have advertised the Mitsu 55413 in your range. I personally have this TV, and if your room can support the TV definately two thumbs up. The 55413 is the best Mitsu without its own internal HD tuner. If your cable or satellite provider already offers the tuner than your set. The 55313 carried at BB and others does not offer NetCommand for learing remotes or more importantly in my opinion QuadField Focus, EDF lenses, Defeatable DefinEdge VSM. If you want HD you also want clarity and detail. Shop around you may be surprised, snag the 55413(or 48413 depending on room size). I also have a 43UWX Hitachi(unfortunately they don't make the 43" UWX version anymore, same guns as the big boys but painting a smaller screen) which is ideal for the room its in(about 14x20). Any bigger and the TV would overwhelm the room IMO. The Hitachi 57S500(or 51S500) are also very good choices. Really just depends on the deal you can get. IMPORTANT - What size room? Since I have experience with both TV brand's maybe I can help. Bounce questions I'll see what I can answer for you. I've helped friends select either brand, let me know what deals you can get in your area - I'll try and help. ) Cliff Notes - Hitachi Ultravision - vertical wash is better, color is slightly better as the angle increases(looking down at the TV). As long as your not watching TV from your ladder or stadium seating(Hehe) you should be fine. Horizontal wash both TV's rock as you can sit way to the side and there is no wash. Outstanding compared to other brands. Mitsubishi 55413 - Blacks seem true'r which makes definition slightly enhanced. The Hitachi has menu options for black/contrast enhancement that gets the contrast pretty close. All and all I would say the 55413(or 48413) Mitsu series is very compatible with the Hitach Ultravision. The differences are so minor that if I did not have them both I would not know the difference. Between the 55313(or 48313) and the Hitachi Ultra's I would go Hitachi. I've been told I over research way too much, if my journey's can help let me know. My friends just ask what I've bought and don't look around - they know I've spent weeks disecting every nuance. OCD I guess. )
  21. MrMcGoo, More info the better. Cool the Sunfire is working out so well. Have you tried the Current outputs yet? Whats your opinion of Huppins/Onecall? Did you get the 19" or 17" version? I've been back and forth, I've had the hardest time getting contacts for Aragon. At the corporate level they have been great, its the local contractors. Go figure. If I worked for Aragon I'd be pissed that contractor aren't willing to move products faster. Their(Aragon) specs are also based on 3 channels driven from a 5 channel amp(2005). What good are specs for 3 channels driven if I'm buying a 5 channel amp. :op The B&K I've listened to and like a lot, plus I can acquire locally. Sunfire allures me based on the concepts and the TrackDown Converter, Dual Outputs, etc.... Any idea how many Amps the Sunfire is pulling from the socket during normal use?
  22. MrMcGoo, I was just kidding with you about opinions, hope the Sunfire works out. From what I've read it should. Keep us posted on what you think. I'm still undecided. Did you hear the buzz/noise with the B&K hooked up? I know you said the Pioneer outputs were quiet. Reason I ask is curiosity to what causes it. I had an Onkyo initially hooked to my RF7's and they had a similar buzz/noise/static sound like you said up to 6" away. Then I hooked a Yamaha to it which sounded outstanding and no buzz/noise/static. I finally ended up with the Denon 3802 pushing them as was very happy. I stuck with Denon because of features and it was a little warmer than the Yamaha. The Yamaha did sound outstanding though. The only thing I noticed between the receivers is that the Denon had the highest S/N ratio, then Yamaha, the Onkyo was lower. Wonder why the amp shows the same characteristics although the S/N is 115db on the Sunfire. THD(no signal though when its quiet, unless its amplifying noise). There must be some other contributing factor. I'm misunderstanding something. :o/ Thanks.

Milton, Thanks for the feedback. Makes sense. Hmmmm. I'll need base soon.
  24. McGoo, Any idea on what the current draw is on that Amp? I take it you picked it up for Huppins in WA, what do you think of them? TIA. McGoo(different thread): "My information on digital amps leads me to believe that Sunfire is too expensive, and its dual outputs are merely a way of coloring the sound." Wow your opinion changed quick huh. hehe. J/K. Enjoy the Sunfire. I'd be interested now that you've had some seat time what your overall opinion is.... I may sway that way too, although B&K is still drawing me like a bug to the zapper. How dramatically different is the sound between the Sunfire and B&K in brightness/Warmth? Are you using the Voltage and Current outputs to bi-wire?
  25. Hey guys, If you want an online store that has it on clearance, check out - http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_12837.htm The local store front is - Huppins Hi Fi 421 W.
