HA HA! Thanks, that may be the first time anyone has called me "rich" in my life! Sorry, didn't intend to flaunt my deep pockets!

    Take care,

I know that this may sound like a non-audiophile point, but I have been running Klipsch speakers since 85 when I bought my forte's. I have had several different amp setups.

I have also run many different CD Players from a 1986 entry level magnavox to a pioneer elite to a my current sony 300 disc changer, and I have never heard a differnce in sound from one player to the next. There was a significant difference in sound when I hooked up the newer players I have owned to a the digital line, but other than that, I have heard no difference.

    Just my 2 cents...

So, you think as long as the player has a digital out that it will 1) sound better than what I currently have (a Pioneer multi disk player with no digital connection) and 2) sound about as good as I could want it to sound given the fact that I am not a true audiophile either?

    Thanks,

Digital out from your CD player into an MSB Link III DAC off Audiogon for $250.

My CD player is so old it doesn't have a digital out port. Makes me think I have to replace it to get better sound quality.

what is the model number of your 6 disc and does it still work. i have quite a lot of pioneer 6 disc players and would hate to go to a single. i have recently bought a single pioneer dvd, sacd player at bb for well under 200 dollars

    ----------------

It is a PD-M552 and yes, it still works well. My wife believes her CDs sound better when played out of the DVD player than they do out of the CD player so I am out to replace it. So, since I could use the DVD player as a "single Cd player" I guess I am really looking for a multi disk player or nothing at all.

  5. I am wanting to replace my Pioneer 6 Disk CD player but I really don't have a clue where to start other than I would prefer a multi-disk player (Nad 517?). However, I would certainly consider a quality single disk player. Any suggestions? Try to keep the price around $200 unless you just think it is something extremely worth the money.

Now, do most of you have CD players or do you just let your DVD player double as your CD player?

    Thanks,

  6. I watched BS last night and didn't really like it as much as the first. On top of "shakey cam" they used "flashy cam" as well. They wouldn't stay on one angle of a chase for more than a second before the flashed over to another and then another, etc. I am not sure what affect the director was trying to have on his audience but this audience was a little annoyed. Maybe this didn't bother some on the younger scene that are used to PS2 games flashing before their eyes...

Overall, I might try to watch this again but I won't go out of my way to do it.

I know someone will cringe when I say this, but check out the Dayton Titanic III 15" Subwoofer kit. For $700 shipped ($688 + spray-on adhesive + 5/34 hex wrench), this 15" monster with a 1000W amp, 20mm one-way excursion and near 3 liters of air displacement, is an unbeatable value.

I was going to go that route and build my own box but decided I would rather have a "store bought" model first so I would have some point of reference for later when I do build my own. Plus, there seems to be some better driver technology hitting the market so I decided to do my DIY project at a later date and maybe the prices will have come down a little.

  8. Thanks for remembering me CAS! Yes, I am following one on EBAY for $900 right now, along with some other subwoofers that are a little less expensive.

I am still torn between how much money to put down for this sub versus placing the money in my stock account and buying my favorite penny stock... 4K shares of PSOL or one SVS Ultra... I want the immediate satisfaction of the sub but man would I kick myself when/if PSOL hits $2!

Regardless, I am still in the market for a sub. One of the SVS guys recommended one of their PBS2 box subs over the Ultra to match my room and listening habits. So, it will probably be a few more weeks before I make a decision.

  9. I have some experience with Bookshelf speakers and floorstanders. I used a pair of RB 5s as my main speakers for a few months until I purchased my RF3IIs. The RB 5s did an admirable job but the RF3IIs were superior to my ears and my wife's ears. She questioned why I was buying the floor standers at the time but now she agrees it was the best move to make.

So, if you have the space and the funds, I would go with the largest floor standers I could afford.

Good luck and congrats on finding this board!

  10. I was looking at the non- '+' version of the 20-39. I just can't seem to part with $900 to $1K for a subwoofer even though I will be getting my bonus next month and technically have the $ for once...

The Outlaw does look like a viable alternative, but I do wonder what differentiates it from a HSU Research sub.

I may get a Paradigm PW 2200 v2 but I am going to have to do some more reading on them.

  11. Okay, I found lots of old posts about the RW-12, some even comparing them to an SVS sub but none specifically to the 20-39. However, it appears to me that the RW-12 isn't what I am wanting in regards to HT. So, that leaves me with the 20-39 versus the Paradigm 2200. Heck, lets throw in the HSU Research VTF-3 as well. If I could buy any one of these for $550-600 then which one would you say sounds the best?

    Meanwhile, I will keep searching...

    Thanks,

    D-Rex

  12. Let's say all three of these subwoofers were within $50 of each other, which would be the best for mostly home theater application? Right now I am leaning towards the SVS 20-39.

Let me know your thoughts quickly, I need to make a decision and would certainly like to hear from those of you that have heard some of these!

    Thanks,

    D-Rex

  13. I was going to say you can't have a Christmas movie list without having Scrooged on that list! Otherwise, the usual favorites for me, It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story.

I like the Die Hard movies at any time of the year, even at Christmas. If a bunch of guys shooting the place up don't put you in the spirit I just don't know what will!! ;-)

I was an Elemental Designs driver on Ebay that I let expire without bidding on it. It went for about $130 plus shipping but since I couldn't get a good idea of how well an HT sub it would make I decided not to go after it. I am thinking about just springing for the 15" Blueprint driver since it is definitely a HT sub and can handle the 1000W plate amp I have.

I was/am looking at possibly buying a used one, the SP series has been discontinued, replaced by the 'O' series from what I have been told. I will check out the website and see what I can find out.
