  1. For awhile there, I kept changing my mind if I'm going to get this add -on or not. Then I got the PS3 and became a BD supporter. Then, Microsoft came out with the Elite with HDMI. Nice so I got that one (still noisy btw). Then Warner Bros will release THE MATRIX ULTIMATE COLLECTION this May with the BD counterpart no release date. So yeah....they got me! And WOW, it's all worth while!! [:D]

  2. UPDATE: I had my appointment today for the screen replacement. Actually, they wanted to schedule it last week but I was not available. Took approx 30 minutes. They replaced both the outer and inner screen. I really don't purchase extended warranties. I didn't get one for my LCD but I'm really glad I got one for this unit since I was concerned about the DLP lamp cost replacement. Good thing I was able to use it for the screen. [:D]

  4. SAVE 30% ON HD MOVIE orders over $50 AT WARNERBROS.COM- DVD SHOP
    Coupons:RNDIS, WBWEL

I got the coupons from a member at highdefdigest.com and used to purchase ULTIMATE MATRIX COLLECTION for $69.08 (Free shipping) . Amazon is selling the same for 83.95 so there is considerable savings. You need to use the coupon one at a time. Go here and order your HD movie. When checking out, enter the first coupon RNDIS and the page will refresh with the discount. Then enter the other coupon WBWEL and the page will add the second discount. Enjoy!

  5. The free PSN is lackluster compared to Xbox Live imho. I'm actually disappointed with it. I guess it has more to do with having been using XBL for more than a year now. My PS3 I mainly use for watching BD movies and Folding@Home right now. I'm still waiting for games that I like (MGS, DMC, Resident Evil and GOW). The best Final Fantasy I played was FFX (Final Fantasy tactics was great too! ). The surprise ending actually made me......cry. [:'(] Sadly, after playing FFX-2 which I didn't like at all, I stopped there.

  6. I just ordered the HD DVD add-on for the xbox 360 as well as upgraded my 360 to the Elite (pre-ordered April 29 release). I also pre-ordered the Ultimate Matrix Collection coming out May 22. I'm all set with this HD DVD experience. I did read that the xbox add-on had some audio problems that will be fixed on an upcoming update (still no support for HD audio though). Anway, I can't wait!!!!

    BTW, I already have a PS3 so I'm now format neutral. [:D]

  7. I don't have an HD DVD yet but I know it does not UPCONVERT on component but does using VGA. Unlike Blu-Ray, I don't know of any HD DVD movies that carry Uncompressed PCM audio (maybe the new releases?). Also, optical cables do carry UPCM but not the whole channels. For example using a PS3, if you specify you want to listed to 5.1 UPCM audio and you are using optical out, it comes out in stereo only.

  8. Hey gang, I don't get down this way much, but we just picked up the xbox360 and I am trying to learn some things about it.

Any users, geeks that can help me find how to hear the game in the com / headset?

If I understood you correctly, you want the game's music, sounds, chat etc. only through the head set, then you can't. You only hear VOICE/CHAT when using the MS headset. There is an mute button and volume knob on the part that plugs into the controller. There is an option on the dashboard to output the voice chats through the speakers or headset too.

Now if your problem is you can't hear anyone when playing a mulitplayer game or others can't hear you, the you have to check your NAT settings (Dashboard somewhere under the Network Testing blade). NAT should be "OPEN" otherwise, you would have some difficulties joining MP games or chat problems.

To get an OPEN NAT, you need to use port forwarding (configured in the router). The ports needed are the 3 below (LIVE1 LIVE2 LIVE3)

  9. I have a POWERSHOT G3. I've had it for 3 years I think and I have had no problems with it. It has a lot of MODE settings you can tweak although I should say that most of the time, I just use the AUTO mode (lol). It also shoots movies. But for my wife, I bought her a point and shoot type, POWERSHOT SD40. Battery last really a long time and the pictures are great. She loves it and I should say I do too. I often end up using it instead of the G3.

Both uses a CF Card to save images. I use a SANDISK Ultra 2 and there's a big difference in read/write performance from the stock.

  10. I have a Samsung DLP that about 6 months out of warranty had a light engine problem. Samsung gave me the old sorry for your trouble, but that $4000 tv is just out of warranty. Cost me $800 to replace the light engine. Last Samsung I will ever buy.

You may be in luck if you use AMEX. They extend the manufacturer's warranty by an additional year (I believe). If you used another card, check with them too. I got mine NOV 2004. However, I got a 5+ years extended warranty on this unit. I have someone coming over to check my unit on Saturday although they did say that it may not fall under coverage since it's the screen that's affected.
  11. I'm having a problem with my Samsung DLP model HL-P5085W where you would see "SMUDGES" on the screen and is getting worst. It's barely visible when watching a movie but once the background color changes into something light or white, you would definitely notice it.

If your are noticing blotches or smudges on your screen no matter how small it is, contact Samsung if your unit is still under warranty. Believe me, these smudges will grow worst as time passes by like mine.

The problem is documented at Samsung's web site (see below) and a part of the screen needs to be replaced. Although they are saying that the problem only affects HLP series manufactured before FEB 2005, I have seen complaints on the internet for other Samsung series (some even at 1080P - so definitely newer models way after FEB 2005 as they claimed).

  12. Total Blu-ray dvd sales have now surpassed HD dvd sales as of late. Even with the higher prices and the later release Blu- ray made up ground. With more big studios backing Blu-ray I think it is your best bet if you have to choose 1. Also the PS3 is just now being released in Europe and that will only help blu-ray sales. As for buying a dual player... well the price is as much or more then buying both players outright and the reviews on the LG have been less then stellar.

I agree that BD would be your best bet because of PS3 sales (imho). I bet that's the main reason why BD sales caught up and smoked HD sales starting January this year. Also, I believe only BD has uncompressed PCM 5.1 on most of their movie releases. Reviews say it's awesome. Unfortunately, I don't have a receiver that can decode UPCM because the PS3 only has HDMI to output it (so there's another reason to upgrade the receiver).

In the end, I want to be format neutral. I have the PS3 and love it. But I want to get the Xbox 360 HD DVD player too. I hope to get my hands on one soon.

  13. My son recently lost his front lower tooth. When a tooth starts to wiggle, every night he brushes his teeth, I would wiggle the tooth some more counting up to 10 (as per the advise of the dentist). After a while, you would be able to notice that it's about to fall off. That's the time I would usually take a floss thread, loop it around the loose tooth and yank it out immediately like nothing happened. He then eats crushed ice to stop the bleeding. It's quite unnerving either way.

  14. I used to have NETFLIX before but I switched to BB when they launched their TOTAL ACCESS program. The program is quite nice. For example, if you have 3 at a time unlimited rentals, you get 3 DVDs and when done, you can go to a BB store to return them and pick 3 rental DVDs (subjected to the store's return policy). Then BB.COM will send you the next 3 DVDs in your Q. You also get a coupon for a free DVD rental to a store. Technically, you get 7 rentals in a week!!!!

On the other hand, HD DVDs are so hard to rent at BB.COM at not all stores carry HDs. On six BB stores that are near my place, only one carry HD rentals I was told and it's a pain to go to that place because it's kindda far from me. Also, their site looks really nice (totally revised) BUT it is really slow at the same time. I would always take user friendly functionality over good looks.

Ohh..and I re-opened my NETFLIX account. I'll get my 2 BDs today. Nice!

  15. Talk about common interface. I really like the way they linked xbox.com to live. You can send and receive messages to friends either way (360 console or xbox.com). I just wish you can hear your voice messages on xbox.com though. That would be really neat!

Anyway, back to the PS3. Got mine last week and would be setting it up basically for BD play this week. I have BLOCKBUSTER.COM but I can't get a BD rental since most of the titles have a "LONG WAIT" status. Geezzee.. Anyone knows if it's the same with NETFLIX?

    TIA
