  1. one owner in black- paperwork, but no boxes. deanG crossovers modded last year. Mint condition-only used with mac tube pre and ss amp. 1400.00 would like local to k.c. or within 200 miles can deliver.
  2. do not worry about too much with 200 watts. i run 200 mcintosh watts and it only makes the 7's better. you can throw anything you want at them and they will respond. the more clean power you have the better they sound. enjoy them.
  3. well i have had the new crossovers for a few weeks now and i must say it gets better each time i listen. i did take others advice here and bought a tube pre with excellent results. my system consists of a mcintosh mcd205 cdp, a mcintosh c2200 pre(TUBE), and a mcintosh mc202 amp. van den hul speaker cable bi-wired and kimber hero xlr ic's. the rf-7's were awesome after dean's crossover upgrade in almost all phases of sound. detail, bass response, clarity, soundstage, and imaging. i would have been happy with the 7's with my c41 ss pre, but i am glad i took the forum advice to try the tube pre. the combination of tube pre and ss amp seems to delight the hell out of the 7's. wonderful highs, but not harsh and very sweet midrange. the ss amp still allows the bass to slam its way home almost as crisp as full ss. it lost just a bit of crispness in the lf, but not to the point it disappoints. the tubes really brought out the changes that dean's upgrade created. this speaker as become an exceptional player. i have auditioned Dali Helicon 400 (4300 a set) mcintosh ls360 (7250 a set) jm labs electra 927 be (6000 a set) jm labs 926 ( 4000 a set) and magnepan 1.6 (1800 a set) the 7's not only took them on, but bettered them in several phases. the only set that even came close was the Dali Helicon 400. the highs were slightly, and i mean very slightly sweeter. the lf on each of the other speakers would require a sub to equal the 7's and only the Dali would come close to the presence of the 7's in a large room. the upgrade from dean and the tube pre along with a ss amp sure seems to feed these speakers exactly what they need to become world class. i am very pleased with the crossover upgrade and the change to a tube pre. the resulting improvement was worth the cost and effort. the 7's are now in very elite company to my ears and could only be improved by a sub(someday)do not give up on these speakers as they have far more potential than most would imagine . regards
  4. good mornings fellows, the burnin is complete. the change is not so dramatic as the fresh installation of the crossovers, but it is still noticable. the bass just seems to continue to deepen and tighten. i cannot say enough about this mod. EVEN my wife noticed a hugh difference, i will say that again. EVEN MY WIFE NOTICED. i hear more from the same cd's each time i play it and just enjoy it more and more. i know this seems over the top, but i am really happy with this mod and feel others would be also. for those who are worried by the install STOP IT. the install can be done by a child(even me) it is a very simple affair and really helps you understand the speakers better. do yourself a favor and do the mod. it is on the same level as upgrading your pre and amp for alot less. thanks dean for making my music enjoyable again. regards
  5. I will let you know if I hear a difference after 10 hours. I will also let them go for a few more to see what happens. Thanks for the advice. Regards
  6. I paid full price and received no discount nor any free goods of any kind. I am not affiliated with Dean in any way. My first impression(right out of the box) is HOLY SH#T why didn't I do this months ago. This is no small difference. Transparency better: yes Detail better: yes Bass deeper: yes Bass tighter: yes Imaging better: yes soundstage better: yes Highs are liquid mids are sweet. quieter, quicker, more slam, easier to listen at high levels and more details at low levels. Voices are clearer and easier to understand. Placement of instruments is better and background is dead quite. And best of all the ringing at HF is totally gone. This mod brings these speakers to a whole new level of clarity which puts them in another class from stock rf-7's. I will break them in over the next 6 days and report back, but I cannot imagine them getting much better. I said in my earlier post that I was trying to find a reason to keep them and I have found that reason. These speakers are now what my ears wanted to hear. Do not hesitate to do this mod. You will say the same thing I did. What took me so long. Dean was a pleasure to deal with, the quality of workmanship is excellent and his service was awesome. I hope I have even better news next week after burnin. BTW, I tested the mod with Chris Botti, Pink Floyd, Pat Metheny, and Bocelli. They all were equally impressive. I will gladly answer any questions you might have. Regards
  7. I will do that after I receive my dean mods. You are correct that them REALLY look different with the grilles off. Not sure I like them as well. They kind of disappear with the grilles in place. Does Klipsch suggest to use them? Regards, Ken
  8. YAHOO!!!!!! I am really looking forward to hearing the results. Thank you very much Dean. If your work is anywhere near your professionalism the rf's should sing. I will have a report for all of you Friday and then another late next week. I will play them solid for 6 days and report back. Thanks again Dean I appreciate your helpfulness and love of audio. Regards, Ken
  9. mine got better all round after about 200 hours. I just let them run at a moderate level for a week solid and that seemed to do the trick. enjoy them. regards
  10. my networks are with dean right now and I hope to get them back by this weekend. I will post my results after installation and then again after dean's suggested breakin period. I am very hopeful that this will improve the rf's to be what my ear wants to hear. I am giving these speakers every chance to stay with me. They are very close to winning me over, but there is just something that is not right. The crossover could well be the problem. I hope so. regards
  11. just a quick question. do the rf's sound better/different with the grilles off or on? any experience out there? thanks for any comments. regards
  12. tried the horn damping tweak and it helped somewhat. i am going to try the dean mod. i will send him my networks next week and let you know how it works. thanks for the suggestions, they were much appreciated. regards
  13. thanks for the replys. i tried the sound damping tweak last night. i will get time to listen seriously tonight and report back. the short time i had to try it last night did not show promising results, but i can be more attentive this evening. maybe my ears just picking up something that others do not because i heard this same problem with the big proac's and all ayre electronics at a dealer here. i heard the same cd on maggie's and all ss electronics with no ringing at all. just one of those things that make the hobby interesting?
  14. my 7's create a slight ringing in the HF during trumpets, electronic keyboards, and strings. I have a large room that is not all hard or soft, just the usual carpet with several windows. I use a mcintosh cd, c42 pre, and mc202 amp. the speakers wire is bi-wire with van den hul. the ic's are kimber hero xlr's. the speakers are 15ft apart and 25ft to my ears. they are toed in slightly. they are on spikes. the eq on the pre helps some , but will not get rid of the ringing totally. I changed to van den hul wire which helped some and also the kimber hero's helped a little. the only thing i have not changed is the ic's to the amp. could this ic create the ringing? or is something else working against me? i have never had the need to change a song because it hurt my ears, but this speakers/equipment combo is doing it to me. i have had the rf-7's just under 1 year and i find them very pleasant most the time , but the ringing at hf's is starting to bother me greatly. i did change the pre and amp, but stayed with mcintosh. i changed to speaker taps to 4 ohms and that helped slightly also. each change i make does seem to help, but nothing eliminates the problem. any suggections are greatly appreciated. btw the imaging, detail, soundstage,lf's,are all perfect, just this little bit of distortion?? or whatever is the concern. thanks for taking the time to read and help if you can.
  15. thank you for the reply. what will the resistor do for the sound? also what advantage do the speakers see from the 4ohm that the 8 ohm does not give them? thanks again.
