There is a model for their 12, 15, 18 woofers. I think they use the series EVM-??L, which is a Low frequency PA driver, NOT a guitar speaker. Not sure of the response, but in the port, there is a removeable panel which can be used to de tune for a lower response at slightly less efficiency and smoothness. TL606 seems to ring a bell for the 15" model. Michael ---------------- Thanks for your reply. I think you have put me on to exactly what I am looking for. Kevin
  2. Thanks for your reply, it kept me busy most of this evening. To be honest with you the Subwoofer design that I am most interested in building is along the lines of this It seems to capture all the "OLD Man Ideas" that I have. Low distortion rigid cone, ported enclosure, front loaded driver, and tuned to about 25Hz. If anyone knows to plans for a subwoofer design similar to this one with either a 15" or 18" driver I am very interested. Kevin
  3. Now that I have returned to what I hoped would be useful info, imagine my suprise when I discovered that most of you have checked your brains for the summer. Yes you be correct, I meant 24" but I could accept 28" and the budget would be the price of the drivers, JBL pro 18" or 15" I hope, plus wood and hardware. I'll take care of the amp and active crossover. I hope this helps to put this discussion back on course. Oh PS I am sending you the complementary Subwoofers in the mail now, just sit by you mailbox everyday and wait for them, because they will be worth it.
  4. Like a lot of you I've been looking to increase the bass in my LaScala's. I've now given in to idea that I need a subwoofer. To save space I want to build two subwoofers that I can place under the LaScala's. I'm hoping that they fit the same foot print and do not exceed 2" tall and have a complementary db output and throw. I was wondering if anyone has came accross such a subwoofer before. I really want to build these so if anyone knows of a design that fits that spec I am very interested. Thanks Kevin
  5. Those Choruss were nice speakers and I would love to own a pair, but I'm always scared by the Passive Radiator in the back. Has anyone ever come up with a confirmed replacement?
  6. Here's an amazing site that shows you how to do it or where to get it done. http://www.dcchomes.com/LaScala.html
  7. well .... that answers that. Bob's your uncle
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong but the PD-5VH and the K55-V are not the same. I remember reading that PWK modified the PD-5VH design, making it not so deep. I don't know about the diaphram if they are even the same. But I would persume that both would effect the Frequency Responce of both drivers. ---------------- On 4/5/2005 6:43:30 PM mungkiman wrote: Can anyone provide a picture of the face of their 70's Heresy mid-drivers? The PD-4V and the PD5-VH look almost EXACTLY alike except for the differences that djk noted: 6 screws for the PD5-VH versus 3 drift-pins for the PD-4V. I am only trying to satisfy my own curiosity, and not take sides. I have examples here of the PD-4V, PD-5VH, and K-55-V, but that in itself doesn't prove anything. Thanks, Chris ----------------
  9. Is there any chance that someone has put an electrolytic capacitor in your Crossover as a replacement? Not only is it just plain wrong it could fail and pop the can. This would probably give the smell you describe. Kevin
  10. Oh I forgot. Congrats on the new LaScalas. They are beautiful. I hope you will like yours as much as I like mine. Kevin

Also I've heard reference to a story behind why PWK switch from Atlas making K-55-V to K-55-M. Something about a tiff. Kevin
  12. Oops I missed "For my Computer". My Bad. Wow I can't believe you can spend $600 on Computer Speakers? Sorry
  13. Here's what I would do Go to Ebay Buy an integrated amp 50~70 Watt per channel don't pay any more than $50~75. Look for a name like NAD or Denon and not Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, or Techniques (That should get some replies going here). Make sure the pictures say that some loved the thing. Next do the same with Heresy IIs and don't pay any more than $350 be patient if you have to. That's your first $400. Next buy a "new" CD player or DVD and hook it to your TV. That's my cheap mans stereo. I am wondering what people say about CD Player choices. I'm looking for one too. Kevin
  14. I have a pair of Pro LaScalas too. I was really wondering about building some MCM1900 or equivalents. Have you ever come across the plans for them. Or since they seem to be enormous speakers can you suggest a Bass Cabinet that would complement my LaScalas. I would like to remain fully klipsch if I can. Kevin
  15. Thanks for your reply. I was kind of happy to hear that the K401 is only $50 as I have an extra LaScala and I was hoping to build it a twin. I have most of the parts for the new twin except for the K401 and a Crossover.
