i'm glad i decided not to solder yet, otherwise i'd be screwed. it may look as though the woofer inductor lead is not connected to anything, but it is.. it's just hard to see in the crappy photos. i apologize, but a cameraphone is all i have.

  2. hey dean, got the package today.

i'm sure glad everything was double boxed otherwise we would've had parts falling out! usps sure did a number on the outer box, they even somehow managed to snap one of the plastic holders off the inductors off. those woofer inductors are hefty suckers. the 10 guage version must be enormous.

well, i'll start putting them together in a temporary fashion (wire twisting) until the weekend. have to run to radioshack and buy some rosin core solder and a new iron.. can't find mine.

i will paypal you the $13 shipping later today, just leave me your paypal address.

    thanks again.

  3. "so, how do you plan on integrating them into the scalas? going to cut the hole larger?"

The 511B will fit in the top half of a LaScala but won't leave any room

for a tweeter so if you stay three way the tweeter would need to be

mounted up top in a separate box. Mounted in the top the 511B looks

like it was made for the LaScala. *Big* improvement over the K400. With

the original drivers I needed to lower the squawkers level somewhat

using the ALK Type A crossover.

Details on the cuts needed for the 511 are here:

hey, that looks good. i didn't know they would mount from the front. i figured i'd screw up horribly since i'm really terrible making perfectly straight lines with my jigsaw, and i don't own a router. i see it doesnt need to be PERFECT since that big metal plate around the horn is going to cover everything.

what are those four slots for? i'm assuming i could just use my jigsaw to make those too, and i don't need a router.

i'm putting together ALK networks once my parts arrive, so i guess i'd stick with a three way version or else i'd feel my networks were a waste. i guess it would be okay to use the stock k55 in the 511b and use the k77 tweeter in a little box ontop of my speaker to preserve the three-way orientation.

unless of course there is a way to easily/cheaply convert an ALK to a two-way crossover.

i figure there's no harm in modifying my speakers, as long as i don't permanently screw them up of course.

  4. Guys,

This is a bit premature, but I am working on a 600 Hz version of the Trachorn. It will have the same mounting scheme and hole size as the K500 horn from the Belle Klipsch but is actually intended for the Cornwall. It will have a air-tight sealed front flange for use in sealed boxes or bass-reflex speakers like the Cornwall. It's a few months away yet though.

    Al K.

will you be designing something for the la scala in the future? i understand the horn you sell now would work, but i'd have to destroy the entire top end of the cabinet to fit it in there. as you know, it's not exactly a piece you can just screw on and off like a k-horn or belle.

perhaps have the horn come out a bit with a gasket so it fits in the original hole and supply grills to accomodate the protruding horn?

    just some ideas...

  5. I don't download music, too many recordings issued by artist's have a

sort of theme or approach to them and I like to experience what the

artist is trying to get at as well as the music.

simple answer. acquire full albums and utilize the cuesheets. i think it's pretty much a standard for them to come with cue sheets these days.

i stopped downloading loose mp3's about a year ago.
