  1. I'm not a bass freak, but 60 Hz doesn't do it for me. I would need to supplement the bottom end with a sub. I've had alot of experience with sub setup over the years and can dial in a sub without it being boomy. I know it would be ideal to listen to both, but its pretty difficult when you're talking about used equipment...
  2. I'm currently enjoying my KG4s, but feel there's room for improvement; especially in the midrange. The biggest speaker I can put in this room is the Quartet (wife exercising veto power). Should I look for a pair of Quartets or Heresies w/ a sub. Will be paired with a Marantz 2230 or H/K 430. Listen to all kinds of music-but mostly rock (not metal) and jazz. Room is 12 X 20, 8 ft ceiling rising to 12 ft--speaker placement on the long wall. What would you do?
  3. Thanks...great input. I'll be careful to check out the drivers.
  4. Thanks for the input...The seller is telling me that the one cabinet suffered water damage. I guess I'll see if I can pop them open and check out the drivers. Hopefully, it is only a cosmetic issue...
  5. I have a chance to buy a pair of Cornwalls in birch finish for $475. One side of one speaker needs to be refinished...supposed to go see them tomorrow. Supposedly been in storage for 10 years. Should I consider them to replace my KG4s in a 12 X 20 room (8'-12' ceiling)? Opinions?
  6. Thanks all for your info--I appreciate it. Do you think the Quartets would be a major improvement over my KG4s?
  7. I haven't seen many Quartets for sale so I was wondering what a clean pair usually goes for...just a ballpark figure...thanks.
  8. ...mistakenly posted this on the technical forum earlier...but I get the feeling that the KG4s are underpowered. There was just something missing...impact and bass definition; seemed lifeless. Today, I turned the Marantz volume dial up to between 12:00 and 1:00 and there it was! Tremendous definition, envelopment, just sounded terrific. Now I wonder how long the Marantz will last driving it this hard. I originally thought this would be a nice combination because I read the KG4 specs on the Klipsch website and it stated 94 db sensitivity and 6 ohm impedance. When a mint pair came up for sale locally, I jumped on them. But the label on the back of these state 91 db and 4 ohms. They must have changed the design somewhere along the line...should I be looking for more power/current or should I think about a more sensitive speaker like the Quartet?

  10. Yeah, I already checked it out...listed as 6 ohms and 94 db sensitivity on the archives page. The ones I bought today stste 4 ohms and 91 db sensitivity on the rear panel...
  11. I finally found a pair of KG4s in mint condition. They are walnut--I was looking for oak, but they'll do for now. They are 4 ohms and 91 db efficiency. I've seen specs on some KG4s that state 6 ohms and 94 db. I have to set the volume on my Marantz 2230 at 12:00 to get the desired volume. How many different versions are there of the KG4 with different sensitivities and impedances?
  12. Please let me know if you are selling an excellent pair of KG4s in oak or walnut. They must have original boxes. Pickup in upstate NY would be tremendous, but not necessary.
  13. Thanks--that's what I thought...one more question: Are there two different versions of the KG4--a 4 ohm and a 6 ohm?
  14. I'm seriously considering buying a pair of KG4s for a two channel system. I've been reading through the archive posts today and it seems like many people are recommending very powerful SS amps. I was hoping to try a nice 20-40 wpc tube integrated--or a restored vintage Marantz 2230, 2218 etc. At 94 dB sensitivity, shouldn't this be more than enough in a 12 x 20 room? Music is jazz and rock (not metal).
