  1. Buckster, just curious...whereabouts are you in upstate NY?
  2. I think what I'm looking for is a warmer sound. All of the units have enough power to drive the HIIs to insane levels (including the 8 watt Eastern Electric). It's just that the HIIs seem to need a little current to fill out the bottom octaves. Maybe I'm wrong...I think that, with vintage tube amps, it comes down to how well restored they are. I've owned 3 Fisher 400s and they've all sounded different. The first one I owned had a beautiful, full sound...should've never sold it. The other two sounded thin by comparison. I would love to try a Scott integrated...
  3. The H/K 430 is one of my faves...I've owned the 430, 730 and 930 in the past. Can't go wrong with any of them. I have a Marantz 2230 on the way. I'm looking for a little warmer sound compared to the Yamaha. Can anyone here compare the Sansui 9500 to the Marantz 2230 or H/K 730?
  4. I recently tried an 8 wpc tube amp (Eastern Electric) with my Heresy IIs and did not like the results. Bass was feeble compared to my Yamaha CR-1040. I'd be interested to hear what kind of power HII owners use here...I'm wondering if I should stay with high power SS or 35-50 tube watts...
  5. Thanks to everyone for your advice over the past couple of weeks. I bought these HII's locally for $150. The original owner's parrot shredded the grille cloth, so I replaced them this morning. I bought the grille fabric on eBay and the speakers look pretty good now...I am missing one badge, so I am on the lookout for a replacement...
  6. for Klipschorns? I assume my two rooms of 17 X 13 and 20 X 12 are too small?
  7. The H/K 430 and Marantz 2230 are real keepers as far as vintage SS receivers are concerned.
  8. I was wondering how the majority feels about this...do you leave the grilles on when listening?
  9. Thanks justonemore; I just went to eBay and bought a pair. I'm glad you told me about it because I didn't see the ad yesterday...
  10. The good news from my Heresy II score last weekend is that the raw birch cabinets and drivers are in excellent condition, with only a few nicks in the usual places. The bad news is that they don't have risers and the grill cloth on one speaker is frayed and missing the Klipsch badge. Do I have any chance in hell of finding risers in raw birch or should I look for some low stands? I believe Lovan used to make 6" and 8" stands. I like these speakers close to the ground for bass reinforcement. Does Klipsch sell speaker cloth (the grill frames are perfect)? I saw one ad on eBay for used speaker cloth for two speakers, priced at $70. That seems a little steep, no?
  11. Yes, please describe the upgrade...
  12. Bought these last weekend and I must say that I haven't enjoyed music this much in a long time. I've owned KG-4s and original Fortes and like the Heresy IIs better than both. I think that the bass loads better in my smallish LR of 17 X 13; it's not overpowering, just well balanced and defined. I can't wait to hear these speakers with a nice little tubed integrated. Listeing to Willie Nelson "Stardust" right now (vinyl) and it sounds beautiful...
  13. Mark, I live in Cicero. Old buckster, SU football is circling the drain. Too bad, too. I gave up my seasons tix after 12 years...it used to be fun. I always liked this forum. It's a great resource for Klipsch users.
  14. I used to spend a lot of time lurking on this forum until I sold my Fortes about 2 years ago. Well, this morning, luck was shining on me and I found a pair of birch Heresy IIs locally for $150. I replaced my vintage Rectilinear IIIs with the Heresys and I'm smitten again. I'm amazed at how great the bass is..not the freight train bass of the RIII's, but tight and surprisingly deep; almost a better match for my smallish 17 X 13 living room. The receiver (Yamaha CR-1040) was a better match for the RIIIs. I am now on the hunt for a quiet tubed vintage receiver or integrated. any suggestions?
  15. A few months ago, I sold my original Fortes with the intention of buying a pair of Chorus'. Unfortunately, I lost my job soon after due to an office closing and the Chorus thing never happened. Well, I'm ready to re-build this system and would value the opinions of the forum members here. First of all, I'd like to go the way of tubes this time ( I currently have a Marantz 1150--used H/K 730 in the past). I've been trying to gather info on vintage Scott, Eico, Sherwood, H/K tube integrateds. How much power will I need for Fortes or Chorus' in a 17 X 12 X 7.5 room? Play mostly rock and jazz--not to ear bleeding levels. And would I be better off with Fortes and having their crossovers re-built than going for the Chorus'? Any thoughts?
  16. Our golden retriever, Xanthe, tired out after destroying her new toy...
  17. $325 + shipping from 13039. Pristine condition--I used this very sweet integrated amp with my original Fortes. Phono stage is much better than the entry-level outboards I tried like NAD and Pro-Ject. 38/53 watts into 4/8 ohms. Great match for Klipsch speakers. I'm having a Fisher 400 restored, so this is for sale. Original box and manual included. Will double-box for safety. Extensive and perfect feedback on Agon: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fb.pl?user=Mcp&1&1&1&1
  18. If anyone can lay their hands on original shipping cartons/packing and can ship them to me--I would ship the speakers...
  19. OK--I think the pics are posting ...here goes...
  20. I am selling my walnut Fortes. They cabinets are beautiful--no scratches or dings. One small, almost imperceptible mark on one corner. All drivers are original. One (+) binding post was replaced with a Klipsch black binding post. Original manual included. No boxes. Consecutive serial #s.Pick up only in Syracuse, NY. $499.
  21. I'm trying to get this Dual 1229 up and running. The cartridge is a Shure M-75 Type D, which was made especially for this unit, I think. I just received a new stylus for it (Shure 760-D6). The stylus package recommends a tracking force of 3-5 gms and I was told by a dealer that the M-75 D's tracking force should be 3.5 gms. The Dual only goes up to 3. How can this be? Anybody out there w/ a chart for discontinued cartridges?
