  1. We had a heating pipe freeze but I was able to save the old jazz albums from any water damage.
So, I’m just playing a few now and relaxing a bit from the commotion and  -$$$ of the past couple of days.

    Spoiler

I actually got very bored shooting glamor and preferred shooting fitness  or swimwear models over all the sex sex sex. Anything you have to do every day can get monotonous.

I dreaded having to drive to the Playboy Mansion to shoot even though I loved working with Crystal.

With all due respect to @thebes, I think you’ve become my newest hero bonvivant-wise.  I must say that I admire your work and not because of the subject matter.

. I worked freelance but over the years also shot for a couple of nationally distributed magazines. Old School Rods and Car Culture Deluxe to name a couple. I shot a lot of vintage pinup and a lot of the top glam models for many years. I was the personal photographer for Hugh Hefners wife for a number of years and worked with a number of the top Playmates and adult film star actresses.

So, did you ever fake a sick day or grumble about having to drag yourself in to work?

”Oh crap, another dreary day wasted with scantily clad supermodels and hot porn stars - I need to get out of this rut.”

  4. Mary McCaslin’s voice was pure silver.  We saw her several years ago at a very small venue here.  She looked frail and her voice was all but lost - still a very touching performance. We got to visit with her a bit too.  As of a couple of years ago, she was confined to a wheelchair suffering from progressive supranuclear palsy, “a neurodegenerative brain condition similar to Parkinson’s disease,” and no longer able to play guitar or sing.  In my humble opinion, she recorded the finest version ever of Ghost Riders in the Sky.

sputnik, I was playing that very LP last week.  What are the odds?  Have you heard The Art of Tea or Tiger in the Rain, two of Michael Franks's best LPs?

Interesting fact about that image:  when Gauguin arrived in Tahiti, contrary to his imagination and his paintings, the native women's clothing was not usually topless, since Christian missionaries had arrived and changed the culture decades before.  Accordingly, his Tahitian paintings were composed from his imagination, not from the reality around him.  "Hey, a guy can dream." is probably what he was thinking when he was creating his paintings and sending them to his art dealer in France.

I have at least one of those.  I may have the other somewhere - I’m trimming back and culling through boxes of LPs lately to try to fit them into a reasonable space in our livingroom.

My Fender acoustic guitar has been on display for 40+ years

I gave up that pursuit a long time ago, and became an audiophile 🤪

I pretty much gave up any hope of ever becoming any kind of audiophile after seeing the amazing systems in this thread.  I am filled with a jealous rage that mere words cannot begin to express.

  7. The Mark Isham score from Never Cry Wolf truly captures the feeling of the Arctic.  It’s snowing a bit and I can hear a couple of owls out in the trees to accompany the music tonight.

Nice 701. A Dual 701 or 721 would probably somehow fit into my collection. But I' m still busy with maintenance of my 1218.

Yes, it’s a gem - German engineering 🇩🇪.  I have another 701 stashed away for back-up or parts but this one just keeps turning.  The queuing damper isn’t like new but that’s no big deal.  I have an old 1219 too.  I’ve only run them with the stock Shure VN15III carts and I still have a few NOS carts and styli to last the rest of my life.

    Terre Roach sang on Exposure

I didn’t know that.  Hadn’t played that album for years and pulled it out to see.  Nice to hear it again.   Thanks.

I have that album as well

A concept album gave Robert Fripp the idea of Frippertronics from the tape looping method Fripp and Eno were using

“Swastika Girls” still sounds amazing nearly 50 years later.

Fripp also produced and appeared on the Roches’ first album.  One of my favorites.

  11. I don’t remember ever interacting with johnlw7 (he didn’t post much) but the thread linked below is especially poignant and worth reading through.  Also, underscores the warm support on this forum and something to remember when discussions devolve into arguments - political or otherwise.

  12. Well, let’s not forget that he’d be older now and never was very far from dementia to begin with.  We could ask what two motorcycles Duke is known for and what he helped me with over the phone once.

Hey, I’ve just been insulted twice……..with the same insult.  😠

That's just one of the ***** generation we've managed to raise. You teach children that they should be protected from every obstacle in life, they become soft and dependent.  Then they grow up to become fearful adults. Fearful of everything.

We need to realize that we can't mitigate every possible outcome so that we are always safe. The world can be a dangerous place. It's called life.
