  1. Yes, that is correct. I believe that the cheap active crossover that I "was" using degraded the sq significantly. (Berringer 2310)
  2. Disconnected the active crossover this morning along with the XLS series amps. Hooked up the XTI's normal............and well.......you know the rest.Also..........the signal lights are operating as they should. How bout that!! What's next?
  3. Unsuccessful in talking to anyone at Crown today about the lights........on hold for over ten minutes so I left them a message. Previously I was fools bi-amping with Crown XLS-series amps. Since I purchased the XTI's I hooked them up for the highs and kept the XLS's on the lows. Tomorrow I'm gonna go with just the XTI's............no bi-amping.
  4. Won't be selling them anytime soon.........if ever. According to mas's bi-amp diagram there is a passive crossover in between the amp and the speakers. Is this required/critical?
  5. Thanks Jay. Specifically what should I be aware of with the horns? basically you are sending however many watts equal to the horn as the woofers on the rf-7 a recipe for burning the horn out. Well that's not good news.............I've been running it like this for almost a year.........Running it pretty hard I might add ( with an active crossover).
  6. Thanks Jay. Specifically what should I be aware of with the horns?
  7. Didn't have time to contact Crown today but now this is turning into a "bi-amping" thread. O.K. by me because now I'm a bit confused. I thought "Fools bi-amping" was when you bi-amp without an active crossover. Just running an external amp to the highs and another external amp to the lows on the speaker without doing anything with the passive crossover that is in the speaker. To try and explain what I have configured, (mas you'll love this), since I can't post a drawing............. I'm running the left and right out of the pre-amp into an active crossover. Going out of the crossover to the amps, since I'm running four speakers (RF-7's), I split off two ways for the highs and also split off two ways for the lows on each side. Four speakers bi-amped = (4) two-channel amps. The same as if you were gonna do two speakers only difference is that it's split off after the crossover before the amps. I have done nothing with the internal crossover in the 7's. I was under the impression that was how you bi-amped with an active crossover?
  8. Worth a try...........here's the story......... Bought the first XTI a few days ago. Used it briefly to run a pair of RB-75's. The lights functioned the same on both the right and left sides, seemed normal. A few days later decided to pick up another XTI 2000 since I was impressed with the sound quality. This time, I'm using both XTI-2000's to power the HF's on my RF-7's that I'm bi-amping using an active crossover. Bi-amping four RF-7's by the way. Both XTI's are behaving the same way with the lights. Keep in mind the first XTI did not behave this way when it was running the RB-75's (not bi-amped) All the while, the audio on the left and right side sound exactly the same and very good I might add. DSP OFF and both channels are on in stereo..
  9. Yes I will. I'll try calling them again tomorrow if I have time. I didn't have much luck with the tech I talked to today.
  10. In the meantime.............nothing sounds out of whack. Very easy on the ears compared to the XLS's.
  11. They are operating in "DSP OFF".
  12. Recently purchased a couple of XTI-2000's to run the HF on my RF-7's. I'm very happy with the sound so far, a significant improvement over the XLS-series. My question is about the signal lights. The lights on the left side light up before the right side. The right side doesn't light up untilI I turn the volume up over 3/4 of the way. After that, or any louder than that, they pulsate almost the same. Both sides sound the same, can't tell any difference. Is this normal for these amps? Thanks, Scott.
  13. Thanks Josh. I should have been more specific in that I meant bridging two separate identical tube amps together, to perhaps double the output.Until I can get a bigger tube power amp I think I'll try bi-amping the 75's with some ss Marantz mono blocks (ma-700's) on the LF's. Maybe that will enhance the output closer to what it should be.
  14. You can go with entry level pro amps. Gobs of power for less money. Some may argue the sound quality but if you're on a budget they may suit you just fine. I use Crown XLS 802d's with my RF-7's and I'm very satisfied. Crown and QSC would be some to look at.
  15. Two of the same identical amps...........wouldn't need "level matching abilities" correct?
  16. Ouch!! I had a feeling.......but it's just that I've used the Mini Max with other pre's and it sounds so good, just not enough output. (My first tube amp)
  17. Can you do this? Just getting into tubes with my two channel set-up as follows..........JM Peach ll, Eastern Electric Mini Max, Jolida JD 100a and RB-75's. This system sounds so sweet but I feel needs more power. The Mini Max is 8 watts including the Mullard rectifier tube. I can turn the Peach up about 3/4 of the way before it seems to run out of gas but before that it sounds incredible, very relaxing and warm with every bit of detail without "any" harsh or edgyness. That being said, the Peach- Mini Max combo has got me hooked so if I obtained another 8 watt Mini Max would it make sense to bridge them if that is possible? Mark if you're reading this, the Peach-Crown XLS series did not suit my taste. However, the above has made me "giddy" all over again. Thanks Mark.
  18. I'm bi-amping the hi's and low's on all four of mine with Crown XLS-802D's. 500wpc @8 ohms........800wpc 4 ohms. I seldom buy concert tickets anymore, just concert dvd's.
  19. I did the same with my RF-7's. Excellent results.............Bi-amping is the way to go. Increased clarity, good separation and even more gain.
  20. That sounds really cool. Like I said, my active crossover isn't the greatest. I want to find out what crossover would be sufficient for my equipment. I think the one I'm using now is probably degrading the sound quality (Behringer CX-2310). I really like the improvements that bi-amping produced. What kind of crossover are you using? Are you satisfied with it?
  21. I intend on using my Crown's for the lows and a tube amp for the highs. I recall reading that you were doing something similar? I just don't have a very good crossover. Waiting for the tube to arrive in about a week (Eastern Electric Mini-Max).
  22. You got that K-2 hooked up yet? Are you gonna bi-amp with it?
  23. You got that K-2 hooked up yet? Are you gonna bi-amp with it?
  24. When bi-amping with an active crossover, do you guys crossover the lows and the highs..........or just the highs?
