  1. thanks for this thread... i am in the market for a new receiever and I dont have a lot of money to spend... i was thinking of the Pioneer VSX-1015TX actually so it's good to see that mentioned by at least one person. My current reciever just isnt cutting it... i just dont hear the kind of detail and effects that I should in these movies... it barley sounds like surrond sound.

ok how cool is this: "In addition, the VSX-59TXi enables you to actually view your room's EQ curves-before and after equalization-on your PC, via an RS232C interface." omg wow...

this is good news because I dont think i am capable of doing a good job myself. I think this will be a factor in my purchasing my next AVR...

Do any of you guys with discerning ears ever use the MCACC feature of your reciever? Does it do a good job calibrating everything?
  5. you should note that in the Synergy manual the reccomended mount height for the surround speaker is 5'7" from the floor and no closer than 1.75' from the cieling. This means that in a 9 ft. room you shouldnt be mounting any higher than 7'3" from the floor. And they are mounted flush against the wall... I am pretty sure they don't even have holes for the omnimount brackets (in case you care...).
  6. i just went through the mounting routine with my surround speakers and you'll notice in the manual they tell you how high to mount them. The manual for the RS-7 @ http://www.klipsch.com/media/Products/ManualRef.9_00.pdf tells you to mount it @ 5' 3/16" high from the floor (flush on the wall). For best performance i would suggest this. For me i ended up mounting them 5' from the floor since I had obstructions in my wall for the wiring... but they sound perfect.
  7. i just measured and 1.75 feet from the cieling puts me 3.5 feet from head level - so i might come down a little more to about 2-2.5 ft above head level. This will be mostly for watching movies so the closer to head level i am begining to think the better.
  8. ok then, I think I'll place them 1.75 feet from the cieling then. That actually works out really well I think. thanks for the info.
  9. thanks for the welcome, I am new to the whole home theater thing so I enjoy reading ppl who know a lot more than I do. I can definately mount them just above head level, my reciever also allows me to program the height of the speakers so i assume it can compisate (in terms of sound) for a high or low mounting. It seemed like a lot of the pictures I've seen on this forum from other peoples setups that they had their surrounds mounted high on the cieling... that kinda where i got the idea to begin with but if its not the best place to put them then I'll put them lower.
  10. I just got some S-2 (synergy) surround speakers and I am about to mount them on the walls in my tv room. I noticed in the instructions that it says "minimum distrance from cieling: 1.75 feet". It also says to install the screw 5'7" from the floor. Is there a reason for them recommending this mounting height? Does it really make a difference? I was wanting to mount them toward the top of the wall (like a foot from the cieling) so they more out of the way but if I will get better sound putting them 5'7" off the ground I would consider changing my plans... but I dont know why they recommend this... does anybody know??
