  1. Depending on where you ordered it from they should have an establish RMA process for exchanging defective products. Yeah I was amazed at the size of the little subwoofer when I got it. I am not sure if anyone else had received a defective unit, but the rma process for me was fairly simple, and I had a new functional one in less than a month.

The sub is asthetically pleasing and matches well with the slender RF-52's. To me even without a sub the RF-52s kicked out plenty bass for movies, but the sub does add to the experience. Even though my taste for bass maybe be different to yours. I believe that this sub does an exceptional job of keeping up with the RF-52s. Only at extreme volumes will the RF-52 slowly saturate the sound of the sub, till it doesn't sound balanced anymore, but by those levels you are probably damaging your ears (I was only testing its output, and never play my music/movie at those levels).

The best parts to me about this sub, are the digital controls, don't think I could go to another sub that didn't have them. Its definition, and authority for such a small driver/enclosure. over all I am more than satisfied with the subwoofer.

  2. I recently purchsed this subwoofer off Vanns.com, they have a great deal on it still. I ordered it, and the first one came defective (which left me to question, the quality of the subwoofer.. how much can it handle....was it a sub that just happened to come bad from the factory, or abused and returned). I RMA'ed it and got a new one and listened to it. I can finally say that my audio system is now complete.

Upon first testing, I must say that I was skeptical about the subs capability, and dissapointed. I could see things like the lights in the fixtures shaking in the living room, but couldn't hear what was causing this phenominon. Well the issue turned out to be placement. After playing around with where in the room it should sit, I found the sweet spot.

My system consists of: Center - RC 52, Mains - RF 52, and Surrounds - RB - 10, previously (Sub-10, which was okay, but I don't like port noise, which it could sometimes exhibit), now XW-300d.

I am still amazing at how this sub sounds, and its capability to produce clean, articulate, and very audible bass. The lower registers were play like never before reachable by the sub-10. I am still breaking it in, but I can tell its sounding better with every listen.

Every genre I listened to sounded better, every dvd I listen to sounded better, and the punch/ depth modes actually make a difference, and the sub is iR compatible with logitech remotes.

If anyone else has this sub or its bigger brother, please share your experience with it, and how hard of time did you have finding its sweet spot with room location.

  3. I really loved the way the icon subs sound. I currently have a single sub-10, which gets the job done for now, but some frequencies i knoow im missing out on.

On paper the sub 10 has high db output that both the icon subs, but to me the icon sub sounds louder and cleaner and low, and mid volumes. Could just be the placebo effect kicking in.

If you guys/gals had a choice

    Would you purchase

    2 xw300d

    or

    1 xw500d

In theory the 500d plays a little lower, and is more powerfull/expensive, but would two subs sound better that one along. and since there would be two subs wouldn't it fill the room better.

  4. Well.....speaking from experience.....I first purchased the rb-51, and was very satisfied with them loud and pretty darn low for a single 5 1/4. I took them back be cause for 200 dollars extra I could get more. So I bought the rf-52. Much better decision IMHO. The rf-52, play sub levels low even at pretty damn high volumes with no bass attenuation. How ever if you take some of the LFE off of the drivers, you can crank them even louder. But by that time they can even be too loud for me, clear as hell but still loud. BTW I have mine bi-amp. 90 x 2 (high, and low) for the left and right mains. I got hooked and bought the rc-52 for center, and rb-10 for surrounds.....I just need a much better sub......its not bad, but can't match the quality of the rest of the system. ksw-10

  5. Hey, I have a YamahaRX-V661, I have never heard my RF - 52 crack pop or anything......I have only pushed them extremely one time, and even then Never a crackle, the amp went into overload protection mode before the speakers gave out. Keeping that in mind.....I never have to turn my speakers up past -30 db to get a loud volume.

I am more than satisfied with their sound quality. People say that they have no bass, but I think that is beacause of there amp (may be a cheap 200 amp/receiver). These things pound loud and clear without any distortion.....I don't even have to use my sub because they handle almost every low note possible. I know I am speaking highly informal but I am not writing and disertation :-)... and when you say loud volumes, that sounds to me like your receiver is clipping, with can and will burn out the tweeter/horn. Could be eq issue, power issue, amp issue, but I highly doubt your speaker is bad.

    Xbox360 (optical)

    PHillips dvd player (digital COAX)

    rf-52 mains

    rb-10 rears

    Rc- 52 center

    RSW-10 for the sub.

  6. I highly agree with jbt, they sound very "big" for dual 5.25 x 2, I am oversatisfied with them, and have no need to upgrade, I just want a better subwoofer that this crappy ksw10.......the rf52 drown out the bass from this sub.......I loved the way the martin logan sub sounded in best buy and am leaning towards it.....I have a yamaha receiver, and I didn't like it at first but i love it now, Not as asthetically pleasing as i would like but it plays loud and clear.

  7. Floydsu........I have tried them in a room about about 15 x 15, but to me they sounded better in the larger room approximately 20 x 14.

My system as of now, but soon to complete it......

    Mains are rf-52

    center rc-52

    soon to get the rs-42

and the ksw-10 is garbage to me, so i will do some investigation before I decide on my next subwoofer...

  8. I recently moved mine into a room that was about 3 time bigger that the room i was in, and oh boy did it make a huge difference. These speakers play loud and clear. THey actually drown out the bass from the ksw I bought, so I might purchase a new subwoofer to keep up with them, and give the ksw to my brother

  9. The weird thing, I got tired of waiting for a reply, so I decided to tinker with the sub. I did a lot of test scenarios, and the problem seems to be the port. I comletely removed the port and tested it, and it allow the sub to properly move. Remove the sloppy glue job down on the port it self and used hot glue to re assemlbe the port. And it sounds wonderful now. I guess the air could not enter the enclosure and escape properly.

  10. I recently obtained a KSW-10, but have an issue with it. Which i think may be the amp. The sub not the port, distorts, a fairly low volumns. I don't even see the speaker trying to move while it is distorting.

I ran bare speaker cable as a test directly to the sub(to make sure the sub was not blown) from my amp, and it sounded wonderful without and issue whatsoever.

Its this a valid site i could purchase a replacement amp from, or could there be some other issue beside the amp that i don't know about.

  11. I might be wrong, but it seems as if bi-amp my speakers makes them sound better all around.

I have a question now though.

Since running them normal, the speakers shares the 90w per channel, which is essentially under powering them

    now in bi-amp mode

am i sending 90w to the highs and 90w to the lows. and essentially overpowering them, which i should be carefull about. My biggest concern is the titanium tweeter/horn, as I don't know how it will react durning movie playback.

  12. How does speaker distance affect sound.

Due to the size of the room I am currently in, my rf-52 are about 3ft apart from each other. Soon I will be in a room where I can have them up to 16 feet apart. How will the greater distance affect the sound; will it be fully, sound better etc. I know that Klipsch reccommends at least 6 ft apart.

  13. So that raises my next question. I know what amp clipping is, but i do not know what a tweeter(horn), sound like before it about to blow, however I don't plan on playing the system at those volumes anyway.

the yamaha I have goes from

-80db to +16db, I never really play it past -20db, at -10db is where I was testing the speakers threshold, but as I said at that volume it really unbearable. I was just curious as to how speakers wattages are rated, and can they theoretically handle what I won't throw at them.

pzannucci(I think you made the most since, and my main worry was the tweeters being fried).

Thanks for all of your comments.
