  1. But when you get it right for that particular movie or Audio DVD, its a good feeling and my wife hushes up in awe of my superior sound adjusting abilities...Yeah right! Still, I really dig these DVD audio discs. The surround really pops out the nuances of the audio, and to me it has a bigger impression on the listener than a really intense battle sequence in your favorite movie. I think I get that feeling because you dont have to watch the whole movie to that point just to get into the sounds you are expirencing. This weekend will be my first real showing off of the system when my brother inlaw comes down for the weekend. Kirby
  2. I found out that bigger is better on the center channel, so dont skrimp on this one. kirby
  3. I have the opposite problem. My center channel on certain movies sounds loud compared to the fronts. It is different for DTS and Dolby digital. Fortunately my HK AVR allows seperate channel programming of size, distance, and volume for each channel and for each surround mode. The problem is I keep fiddling with them as each movie seems to be different. Kirby
  4. This DVD player has both logos and as I said, I am using the fiberoptic connections for audio to my HK AVR. You last statement about 6th channel is confusing. If what you state is correct that would be a 6.1 disc which is not listed on the discs I have purchased. I looked at a few SACD today, first time I have seen them, but I did not get any yet. The prices are better than the DVD-A discs as well. I have read the DVDA page before but not the SACD, so I know what I am looking at is the DVDA format, and it is playing correctly on my system. No one ever aswered what the Hirez format that was mentioned previous was. kirby
  5. Thanks for the replies guys. I am not familiar with the Hirez format, but would like to know. I have a Harmon Kardon AV235 and use optical connections for everything. I also use a Samsung Upconvert DVD player, so if there is a player that can handle the Hirez, it should be this one. If not which. In either case, the AVR switches automatically to DTS audio or Dolby Digital surround per mode of the DVD. Please enlighten me if there is more audio quality I am missing, but I think i am there. I will check Towers sight for others. Kirby
  6. I have a Samsung upconvert DVD player that I use HDMI to hook to TV. I get a great pix, but it says HDMI audio not supported. I tried using a Audio cable with the HDMI as well, but still not DVD audio through TV. Works through AVR. Kirby
  7. I bought a couple Audio DVD's, no video. With the 5.1 dolby or DTS5.1 these things sound GREAT! I am only seeing a handful carried at local stores. Are there any well stocked online stores? I know this is a new format, but the first thing to come out should have been Pink Floyd. Sting and Santana sound awesome in surround. Kirby
  8. Sorry I did not see this post until now. I bought one when I got my Home theater about a month ago. It is quite impressive.I almost had to talk the Best Buy guy into selling it to me, but I am glad he did. Pluses: My wife can use it I dont have to use an old remote for programming automatic updates with online programming Off turns off everything I can program all electronics in the house (not just AV, anything IR) Help is fairly intuitive Activites are switchable (If you are watching a DVD and want to watch TV, it shuts everything else off and switches the TV input) Charge lasts a LONG time Can program default functions (if you switch to DVD swithces the surround sound too) Color display can upload personal photos for screen saver Small Programming is saved on a server on the internet so can be easily recovered if lost. Automatically turns on when you put your have near it. Misses: Programming requires internet connection (or other remote while still hooked to USB) Have to turn evertyhing off before activating an activity IF you started the device with another remote or by hand Too many buttons flip through to find the functions from more complicated remotes (I believe that you can turn these off though) I am glad I found out about this one. At the time we bought it I had no idea it had just been released, but I notice they are still in short supply, so that makes me feel better about the cost. Since we bought it with the TV though Best Buy gave us 10% off everything we bought matching circuit cities offer, so I guess we got a good deal on it. We sure got a good deal on everything else. 9. For my premiere last weekend, we watched the first Starwars of the new Series, then went the next day to see the latest one. I am please to say that my Home expirience was much better than the $6.50 per person one. the audio at home is crisper and the depth seemed more broad. I am very impressed with the klipsch HT speakers I bought. F3's, S2's, C2, and S12 sub. Kirby
  10. I finished hooking up my Surround system last night and it sounds very good. Sony 55" LCD Harmon Kardon AVR235 RX Klipsch F3 fronts Klipsch Sub 12 woofer Klipsch S2 Surround Klipsch C2 Center channel As I hooked it up, I would test it, and I found it never sounded right until all the components were hooked up, but then it popped. Voices are front loaded, and the surround speakers really give you the "In the Bar" feel during pub scenes. the Klipsch speakers are VERY crisp, to the point where you can hear the difference between an Analog recorded CD and an all digital cd. I got a dts5.1 audio DVD to play with and it sounds like you are in the recording studio. Voices from the front only, and a slight echo from the back. I hooked the Sub up using the RCA connectors and set the Lowpass in the mid 40's as the F-3s low range is 35hz. At first I did not have this set right and it made a huge difference in music/bass mix. I am still not sure of a couple things: I plugged the S-2's into the Surround ports on my RX, not the Surround back ports as they did not seem to produce sound on a 5.1 disc. this is a 7.1 RX but it appears 6.1 is really all thats out on DVD's now. Does all that sound correct? Still tinkering with hookups, but I used monster connectors on everything except into the back of the speakers, and I used monster cables everywhere. Question 2: what is the best way to hook up a Playstation? through the RX to the TV or to the TV then back to the RX? This RX does not up convert the pix, but it would still give a decent picture through the component or am I better going component directly to the TV? So far the system exceeds my expectations, now for the cosmetics of burying wires etc. Kirby
  11. I am setting up my surround system and found my S-2 surround speakers really need to be mounted on the wall as opposed to on a stand for best effect. Up high they can reflect off walls, down low they would hit the fire place, doors etc. I am trying to determine what kind of mounting brackets to use or the best way to mount them. Thanks Kirby
