I contacted him the other day and was told he has no more to sell and is no longer making anything. Just my luck now that I'm in the market to buy one of his amps.
Oh no. This really sucks...... I'm going to be watching the audiogon like a hawk in the coming months.

I love my Wright WLA12, loved the Peach as well.
Thanks for the info on the preamp. I checked them out on the web and it looks interesting. My only concern is George's health problems. I wonder if the company will continue if he decides to get out of the business due to his health? Maybe it is so well built that I won't have to worry about any problems?

I wouldn't have any hesitation about buying Wright gear. It's well built for sure. In the event service was needed, there are lots of folks who could handle that.
Hope you can locate a Merlin. Wish I hadn't sold mine.
It would be worth contacting Mark Deneen at GMA. He'd be one more person to be watching for one and he might still be building out units from parts in stock.

How's things in Earlville? I'm still enjoying the LS! Nothing but compliments when folks hear them. Getting the AL crossovers changed out helped a lot, though.
Those EVs would be wonderful!

Those are compound 828 re-entrant horns .The drivers are attached to the plastic tubes with folded tunel inside (360 degree fold ) and then they exaust (fire) to the back of big wooden 200Hz horn (soundwaves bounce and exit trough the mouth of the horn) .To use compression driver in Midbass band require a long horn so to fit the cabinet they just folded it that way. The cavity you see all those drivers mounted is a mouth of midbass horn. The horn in the middle is a mid-horn used from 600Hz up to 3.5Khz

Here's a few pics of the drivers in the Patrician IV. I use the Crites CT125 tweeter and a University SAHF for the mid-range.

I've been contemplating getting a pair of VRD's and almost convinced myself that I would, but reading this thread clinches it for me. I've pretty much decided now to replace my Stingray, which I really love, with a pair of VRD's and most probably a BBX. The Stingray is a great match for my Klipschorns already, and I can't imagine them sounding better but who knows? Has anyone heard both?

There were a few different versions of the Patrician. The Patrician IV used an 18" woofer (18WK) under 200 cps, two mid-bass horn drivers mounted on long plastic type tubes for 200 - 600 cps, a T25A mid-range driver with a 6HD horn for 600-3500 cps and a T35 or T350 High-Frequeny driver for above 3500 cps. I have one of these. The Patrician 700 used the 30" woofer (30W), a 12" SP12D mid-bass speaker, a T250 mid-range driver with 8hd horn and a T350 tweeter. I think the Patrician 800 was the same or almost. The Georgian used a 15" woofer (15WK), a large PA type horn for the mids with the same mid-bass driver and long plastic tube used in the Patrician IV and a T35 tweeter. I have two of these. The Georgian bass bin was identical to the Klipschorn bass bin, in fact the early Khorns used the same EV 15WK driver. The only thing similar between the Georgian and the Patrician IV was the bass bin with the Pat IV being 16% larger. They also shared the same high frequency tweeter, the T35 or T350.

The Aristocrat could be loaded with several options. You could get a 12TRXB triaxial with the whizzer cone and built in T35 tweeter. A two way system consisted of using an SP12B, and a T35B tweeter with an X36 crossover. A 3-way system consisted of a 12BW woofer, a T10A mid range driver with the 8HD horn, and a T35B tweeter along with an X825 and X36 crossover. For the ultimate system, substitute the SP12B with an SP12, the T10A with a T25A, the T35B with a T35 and the X825 with an X8. All combinations mentioned sound great but it all depends on how much money you want to spend and how great you want it to sound.

any day now and I'm using Bob C's tweeters. Is all this going to be a good match? BTW, your crossovers are unbelievable! It's hard
to believe that I may be able to make them sound even better with Al's horns because they sound so great now.

while were on the subject i found some plans for evs sub enclosure what could i get out of these. also i am kind of new to the klipsch community, and forums as well so if am going about the wrong of posting i applogize.

Hi Nick and welcome to the Klipsch forums! What sub enclosures are the plans for? If they're for home audio, there may be some interest on these forums but if they're for band equipment I'm not so sure but I may be wrong.

I started with a utility version bass bin only, that someone had put an oak plywood face on with some edge moldings. My father and I then built the 200 hz wooden horn that houses all the mid-bass, mid-range and hf drivers. We used the plans and diagrams from the "How to Build The PatricianIV" book that EV put out back in the 50's. Then I just used my Klipschorns as a model and built the top section that houses the 200 hz horn. They are bigger than the Khorns naturally, but the look and design and spacing etc are just copied from taking measurements of the Khorns. It's really the first project like this that I have ever done so that tells you it wasn't at all hard to do. My crossover was made by Bob Crites according to EV specs and that's what really made a huge difference from using the tired out old original crossover. The sound now is amazing, probably what they sounded like when they were new.

I thought that was an 8HD mid horn, but you guys know better than I. Thanks for joining us EVguy! I built a set of TL bins for EVM15L's one time and still have them and a single TL 18 bin in the garage.
You are correct, it is an 8HD horn but the driver connected to it is a T250 mid driver. The same horn used with the T25A and the T10A which all crossover at 800 cps using the 8HD horn. The Patrician IV uses a 6HD horn for crossover at 600 cps. Any of those drivers can be used with the 6HD but should be crossed at 600 cps for the best sound.

Sounds like you could have used those 700s for your front left and right channels and your Georgians for rear surrounds. How do you like the EV 18W-K VS: the EV 15W-Ks??

Hi Roger,
They both have very solid bass but the 18wk can really be felt more. With volume at normal listening level, the bass becomes part of the music by really making you feel like it's live bot not overpowering. Remember that it's in a larger corner enclosure than a Khorn, about 16% larger. I don't know if you'd get the sound you think if you placed an 18wk in a Khorn enclosure because of the smaller size. Here's a pic of my Patrician IV with a Khorn like outer cabinet I built, next to a Khorn.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your buddy. It's never an easy thing. I lost 3 dogs to old age a few years ago and my third generation "puppies" are now going on 14 so the two of them are nearing the end also. I also have a cat I found in 1992 that's really starting to show his age. Getting a replacement pet is one of the best ways to honor your deceased pet. It shows that you loved having them around, caring for them, and being loved by them so much that you can't think about living without that kind of special love in your life. It says a lot about your old friend.

I have original blueprint plans for building the Patrician 800 Traditional version but they're pretty large to copy. I'd be happy to attempt it if interested in them.

The mid driver in those Patricians is the T250, not the common T25A although they use the same 8HD horn only in a beige color instead of the black. The T250 is extremely rare and almost never come up for sale and if they do, the bidding would start at $1000. They have a magnet the same size as the old 12W woofers, the SP12 (not the B version) or the original SRO/12 musical instrument speakers, referred to as the coffee can magnets. The Georgian has a 15WK, the same as was used in the older Khorns. It's the Patrician IV and Patrician 600 that used the 18WK. I've got two Georgians with 15WK's, a Patrician IV with an 18WK and a single T250 that I have no use for other than it's part of my collection.

Actually I can call eBay and discuss issues with a live person. They sent me a number one time and said because of my great record with them I'm allowed to talk to a live person if needed. Unfortunately when the book thing was going on I didn't have that privilage yet. I have called them on other issues but always got the same response which was that they didn't have a clue as to how to take care of whatever my issues were at the time. But it was fun to argue with them.

I was selling a book about speaker cabinets, designs, crossovers etc...In the book, several manufacturers are mentioned including pictures of their products from the late 50's. The title of my ad was "blah blah blah blah book About Klipsch, Altec, Jbl Speakers". Ebay pulled it and said Klipsch had them do it but they didn't give me a reason. At the same time, there was another identical book listed with wording like mine except without the word "About" and his was left alone. His title almost looked like he used vendor names as keywords, where mine was explaining that the book was "About" speakers made by these manufaturers.

Yeah, I'm liking the Stingray very much. You're right, no corners in my living room but that's the main thing I'll be looking for in my next house I buy. The house has to have a room made for Klipschorns. Two rooms actually so I can finally get to listen to the Georgians too. Post some pics of the LaScalas. I miss them and would like to see them now that they're all grown up.

Do you already have a pre-amp? If not, then you'll need an integrated amp or a receiver.
