Ebony was a color option. It looks much better in person but there were a few scratches and gouges. When I first saw the pictures, I thought it was painted too but it's not. The man she is selling all this stuff for is in a nursing home now. He bought only the finest pieces. She only has a few pieces of electronics left and will not sell anything to anybody unless they win it on ebay which is better for her so she can get more money for her friends health care. Most of her stuff is going to Asia where the big money is. I bought an ElectroVoice Stereon from her.

This auction is over now but thought you might want to see what they are going for. Her pictures were awful but I went to see it and it was very nice in person. I even offered to re-take the pictures for her so she could get more for it but she didn't want to bother with it. She also just sold a Patrician, a Hartsfield and a pair of Jensen 1200-XL.

My guess is someone used the plans for a Patrician IV for building the bass bin because that uses an 18". My cabinet looks very similar to those except for the nice horn on top.

There is certainly a balance betwen getting ripped off and getting the deal of the century. Perhaps we do some injustice when we often tell people they would be paying too much.
My trip meant dropping the youngest off at college, visiting my mom, meeting up with a highschool buddy I hadn't communicated with in over 30 years, and picking up the LS. A priceless trip in my mind. And meeting another forum member was great even if the time at Bernie's house was short. I haven't even figured up the miles, but it was probably over 2K.

It would have been great if you could have stayed a little longer but I knew you had a really long ride ahead of you and I knew you were kinda anxious to get home and listen to them asap. You're right about meeting another forum member. It's reassuring to actually meet someone else who shares the same love for great sound, and to know that there really are more nuts out there like yourself who really know the difference between listening to your stereo, and really listening to and truly appreciating the music your sound system can reproduce and the enjoyment you can get from it. Bob's crossovers made a big difference from the AK-2's. Much better detail. Getting rid of the green corroded old Monster wire helped a lot too I'm sure. I got the new Monster speaker wire at Barretts Home Theater in Naperville and the connectors at Lowes. The Monster connectors were way too wide.

Here's another of the connectors and one of Bob's crossovers but the terminals are the same size as Klipsch.

I use Monster Cable which is between a 10 and 12 gauge and I just used plain yellow spade clips bought at Lowes. Here's a picture of the wire laying across a quarter for a size comparison so you can compare with what you have.

I'm so happy you ended up with the LaScalas. I wanted them to go to a forum member, I just assumed it would be someone a little closer, but I know they went to the right guy. It was certainly a pleasure meeting you finally and I'm looking forward to your reviews.

When you say 1, do you mean 1 set, left and right, or just one single cable. I'd be interested in them if they are left and right.

I hope that those of you that converted to Bob's A/AA removed the caps and coils in the woofer bin from the circuit before plugging the woofer output lead from Bob's network into the woofer input.
I replaced the entire woofer hatch and installed bananna jacks in the new one. I didn't want to alter the original door or the circuitry in any way. Someday if I ever sell them, and I don't see that happening, I can put it all back to original in just a few minutes.

Was the K55-M basically the same as the Electro Voice 1824M? I've never opened a K55-M to compare. I have several diaphragms for the 1824M which is the same diaphragm as the 1823M but will fit only the older ones with the round fins not the ones with the more squared fins. The 1823M was alnico, the 1824M was ceramic.

I'm using Bob's AA/A's right now in the A setting. By using the jumper cable he puts on there to convert it to the A, does that also then cross at 4500 or are you talking about something different?

Right now I'm using a set of Bob's AA/A crossovers and they sound real good. I want to listen to them for a while to really learn what the speakers should sound like. Eventually I will be getting your crossovers. I just wanted to know if I converted the AK-2 to an AK-3, would it sound any different or better than an AA would. Probably not, so for now I'll sit with what I have and someday upgrade to your networks.

Can an AK-2 crossover be converted to an AK-3 or AK-4 or is it not worth it? Which would be better to convert it to, an AK-3 or 4 if it could be done, and what would the advantages be?
I'm using Bob's tweeters, K-55-M with the K400.

It sounds like a good idea. I've never been to a gathering but I would like to. I may even be persuaded to host one some day. I have a large 145 year old farm house on 1.5 acres surrounded by cornfields in Earlville, IL which is about 50 miles west of Naperville, and 50 miles south of Rockford.

The scammers are always up to something no good. Whenever I sell on ebay, I have a program built into my ads that disables the right click of the mouse of anyone reading the ad so they cannot copy and paste any of my text or my pictures. I started writing that program into my ads after a guy stole my pictures to use on his own ad because as he said "yours were so good and you had already taken yours and I didn't have time to take mine yet".

I think you're right, they are stained. Those are birch plywood and I can see the difference in the pattern how it does not repeat itself like the Khorns do. Hopefully someone will be able to tell me if the veneer was original because it sure is a great job.
The LaScalas do have color to them. Here's a link to a picture of one of them. I may have them sold but not sure yet.

The guy I bought the Khorns from had just bought them a week ago from the original owner who bought them in 87. His wife said they were too big and would not let him keep them. I know the original owner's brother also had a pair but that's all I know about them so I can't say if he had them veneered or he bought them that way.

Well, they sound great! The one with the K77 still in it with the AK-2 seems to have more pronounced highs than the one with Bob's tweeters and crossover but it's certainly more harsh and less real. They do have more bass than the LaScalas do even though I don't have them in corners.
I showed the pictures to one of my guys who works for me in the re-finishing shop and he agrees that they are veneered. He also stated they are bookmatched and showed me the repeated patterns. Now when I look closely at the edges, I do see a layer of veneer, although he did say it was birch veneer.
My next question is, did they not come this way from Klipsch? Did Klipsch only use solid woods and not veneer? If someone else veneered them, they did a great job.

I met her husband too. He's a crotchedy (?) old guy, always in a bad mood. The guy they're selling for is an old friend in a nursing home who doesn't even remember what all this stuff is anymore. At least that's the story they gave me and I have no reason not to believe them. It's all just sitting in their two garages. I really believe they had no idea what their friends collection was worth.
