  1. Reading his description of the damage, I'd say yes. Any damage done to wood or MDF or even this compressed cardboard crap most new furniture from China is made of, can be repaired. A large smashed corner may need to be cut off, (I know it sounds bad) and rebuilt using what all repair guys use, bondo. The bondo is then shaped and trimmed then sprayed with several layers of different shades of color to blend until the color and finish is right. Bondo works better then patching with a piece of wood because the wood used would have it's own grain where as the bondo does not. Wood grain can be painted on believe it or not, then finished over so you could never tell. I suggest finding a repair shop with some old timers, or younger guys who take pride in their work. Maybe even find out who does repairs for department stores in their area. Department stores have a reputation to uphold so their repairs have to be done well.

  2. I manage a furniture repair shop for a major department stores furniture division in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas, and believe me when I tell you, a good repair guy can repair any damage done to speaker cabinets so you will never see the repairs. Don't try and do it yourself. That last picture of the crushed corner is about an hours work by a guy who knows what he's doing. Don't give up hope!

  3. I just replaced my AL crossovers with a pair of Bob's AA/A crossovers and they sound great. I have to say though that they didn't sound bad before I replaced them. Mine were made in 86 so maybe my AL's caps weren't bad or worn out or do they just go bad from getting old? Now, the crossovers Bob made for my Georgians made a world of difference. I highly recommend them for anyone with Georgians.

    Hi,

Here are three pictures of the EV Georgian speaker and matching

    equipment/speaker (one door open).

    The corner horn has an EV 15wk, a MT30 mid-range and a T350 tweeter.

    The

equipment cabinet has a EV 12" and a T350 tweeter in a bass reflex

    design in

    the area below the doors.

Both cabinets are 54" high, 30.5" wide and 25.5" deep. The finished

    corner

horn cabinet just slides off of the black speaker cabinet. The cabinets

    are

constructed of oak plywood and solid oak.

Looks like a Cardinal cabinet, not a Georgian. Basically the same thing as a Georgian only without the use of the 848HF Mid Horn. The MT30 sits inside a wooden horn instead.

  5. Bob,

I just saw the thread about my crossover rebuild. My main needs were for a set of new crossovers like the prototype you sent me to try out. Fixing the old one was a bonus if it could be accomplished. If not, it's just going to go in my collection anyhow. The prototype seems to work good. I only have one of the Georgians in the room so I have to compare the sound of the mids and highs to my LaScalas. I think the mids are a little more pronounced than the LaScalas and sound more natural. The mid horn on a Georgian is very unusual in that from the front, you hear from 1000 hz up to 3500, and from the rear of the horn, yes there is a front and a rear horn opening, it fires 300 hz to 1000 hz through a long plastic phenolic tube, then into the large fiberglass horn which then radiates outward from the front into the room. There is an internal crossover I think I read that crosses it at 1000. My Patrician IV has two of these mid horns in it. I may want you to build me a crossover for that too which crosses at 200, 600 and 3500. Hearing what a Georgian should sound like finally, makes me wonder what the Patrician should sound like too. The old EV crossover are nice to look at but don't work too well because of their age.

  6. I saw him perform in Rockford, Il when he opened for Josh Groban last Feb I think. I went out the next day and bought his new cd. Great music. Sting's drummer filled in for his drummer that night because his regular guy was ill.
