  1. You got your wish but it's not the iGroove. Recently announced the Klipsch iJam is a portable system that includes an iPod cradle, FM tuner, dual 4.5-inch woofers with coaxial mounted tweeters, and a passive radiator on the rear of the unit that runs on either batteries or a ac adapter.
  2. Hi Amy. By your answer does the "iPod Dock Adapter" provided by Apple not work in this case even though your product falls under the "Made for iPod" description? Its nice that you are providing a solution so quickly. The horrible problem with Apple is they keep coming out with new iPod models. []
  3. Taking off the speaker grill off is a good test to see if the grill material is affecting the high end to the point that you can notice it audibly. Some audio purists never have grills on their speakers. [] High frequency audio waves are more easily attenuated by grill material then low frequency audio, which readily goes through grill material. High frequency is also very directional compared to low frequency. Haven't you stood in front a speaker and heard great treble and then stood slightly to the side and the treble is not quite so pronounced? Speaker manufacturers go to great lengths to design a speaker with good treble dispersion. Horn speakers such as ones Klipsch uses have the horns formed so the wave will be accelerated (higher efficiency) then dispersed at a wide angle. The grill material selected should be sonically transparent so not to affect the high end. IMHO The grill that the iFi uses on the RSX-3 actually does affect the very high end, I can readily hear how much better the crispness of cymbals sounds with it off rather then being slightly muffled with the grill on. Using the treble booster equalization enhances the output to compensate for the roll off caused by the grill.
  4. Yes. The iPod Nano utilizes the same Apple proprietary dock connector port that the mini iPod uses. The Nano additionally comes with a "iPod Dock Adapter" which Apple has made for "Made for iPod" program vendors so they don't need to fabricate a dock cradle adapter. reference http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302272
  5. Andy - Thanks for the response. I agree that creating another iFi like product for computers would be money down the drain. Forget about my Ultra 2.1 comment. [] My intent was to point out that without a typical 3.5mm cable included Apple types won't hook the iFi up to a computer. Apple rep's don't want to setup any equipment any differently then it was kitted. To them its a hassle to break open a 3.5mm cable accessary to promote the iFi being used with a computer. Also you have to sell two things for a customer who additionaly wants to use a iFi with a computer. Perhaps at the $399 price point a potiental customer expects everything [] Redesigning the Dock is expensive...no argument...but including a 1 to 2 dollar cable isn't. Cheers
  6. Andy - There is no standard 6 foot 3.5 mm male-male mini-stereo cable supplied with an iFi! It as simple as that! In every Apple store I have seen the iFi is located on same side as the standalone cheap speakers for iPod's. The iFi is missing from the computer speaker listings on Apple Stores site; it is only shown under Apple-iPod-Accessories. Perhaps Klipsch needs to market an iFi tailored for computer use? Ultra 2.1 :-)
  7. You neglected to supply any details on how you were using the iFi. So what is the audio source you have hooked to your iFi? In regards to Bose being the most respected name in sound...hah! When's the last time you went to a DJ party, a rock concert, or watched a movie in the movie theature with digital sound. The speakers they use are from Altec Lansing, Electrovoice, Klipsch to name a few. Show me a Bose unit that consists of quad 15" woofers or larger and very large horn tweeters. Sure the professional branch of Bose is trying to sell their products but they are puny compared to other vendors speakers that have been shaking our world for years.
  8. Posted Sept 8 is a fairly extensive review (9 pages) of the Klipsch iFi by James King. http://www.bonafidereviews.com/article.php?id=99 "The sweet, smooth sound and substantial, accurate bass are very easy on the ears and make long listening sessions very enjoyable"
  9. Hmmm coming sometime this month....dual 2.5-inch fiber-composite woofers, dual 1-inch tweeters and a built-in iPod dock for $279.99. The appearance looks a lot better then the Bo$e Sound Dock. Interesting it excepts other MP3 players and satellite radio receivers with a included adapter! I'm pretty sure this unit will be louder and clearer by a mile then the Bo$e Sound Dock. Heh Bo$e might have to lower their price, wouldn't that be awful! :-) Oh BTW the iFi is in totally different league then the iGroove, although it has more wires and needs more space it is a real speaker system with superior sound clarity and dynamic range,
  10. Its almost a requirement in order to sell a product you need a working demo. But duh a lot of CompUSA's and also Circuit City's still have them displayed in unopened boxes or out of box without a iPod! :-( Sharper Image initially didn't have them with a iPod, but now they do! :-)
  11. Actually CompUSA was one of the earliest store chains that carried the Klipsch iFi and was in stock at most local CompUSA's.
  12. I would think a worldwide autosensing power supply (120-240V) would reduce the chance of damage to the iFi system.

I am planning to buy the ifi through a friend from US, but needed some more information regarding the input power options. The standard product seems to come with a 120KV input whereas the region that i live in works on 240KV. Does anyone have any information if there are any compatible voltage converters out there that will serve my purpose? ---------------- The iFi uses a 120 volt 2 amp fuse (240 watts). Take a look at http://www.dvdoverseas.com/store/index.html?catalog91_0.html DVD Overseas Electronics sell 100 watt to 3000 watt voltage 220V <-> 110V converters. BTW you use 240V not 240KV (240,000 v) otherwise electrical substations are rather bulky to ship.

Being that the RSX-4's are only 20 more dollars than the 3's I think they provide a lot more bang for the buck. Perhaps a slightly more expensive version with the 4's would be in order. ---------------- Substituting the RSX-4s instead of the RSX-3s for the same price or a little more would greatly improve the high-end response plus increase the maximum loudness that this high-end multimedia system is capable of. Gamer's love awesome clean sound!
  15. The September 2005 Sound & Vision magazine just coming to newsstands has a nice glowing review of the iFi. Its got an S&V Approved icon at the top of the article. This means it made the Sound & Visions editors recommendations list on the best gear to buy right now.
  16. ExtremeTech has a great 2004 article entitled "Audio Codec Quality Shootout" that will help you a lot. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1562117,00.asp

But it will be within four feet of the laptop and I wanted to make sure there's no risk. ---------------- Unless you have a laptop harddisk a few inches away from the actual speaker magnet, then having the laptop right next to the subwoofer wouldn't cause any problems. Laptop harddisks require a pretty strong local magnetic field to alter data. Besides this is a good reminder to always have a external harddisk or equivalent for backing up your data/files!

And that's from a pretty sizeable sample size - 75,000 reviews. Maybe it's worth the risk though, given the price. Tough call. By comparison, Amazon.com's rating on the same site shows 2% negative feedback versus 96% positive. ---------------- I like eCost's policy if you state your item is unopened when you return the item and eCost finds it open they will charge you a 50% restocking fee, Wow!
  19. ---------------- On 8/6/2005 9:18:59 PM 007 wrote: holy crap, thats a ****ing deal! ---------------- Just wondering if that internet vendor is a authorized dealer or not? Seems like they have a weird return policy. Call the manufacturer first and verify problem before establishing a RMA from that internet vendor. Most stores you just send it back if it is defective. Have to admit its the lowest price. But there are a number of internet vendors that you can readily trust for around $335. I have to admit not much movement now on reviews/comments or store action at several local vendors for the list priced iFi systems at $399. Mostly because few stores have them set up correctly. For example Sharper Image has them displayed without a iPod playing music? CompUSA and Circuit City have them in boxes on counters only? Some Apple stores don't have them even displayed (yet they are stocked). Amazon has the wrong technical details on the iFi speakers for weeks! And only two comments? Weird...huh? But it gets worse....notice how all these stores are promoting B$se with units out and displayed!

Comparing the 720P similar size Sony, JVC, Mitsubishi and older Samsung DLP and LCD models right next to them and you could clearly see the difference while watching a HD concert. The sharpness and contrast improvement with the new 1080P Samsung DLP sets is noticable! Colors look very good (no green problem). I see a future upgrade in my living room coming.

Steve ---------------- If you consider it will scale SD or HD broadcasts up to 1080P versus 720P for about the same price then it would be worth it. There is a another improvement in contrast with the six generation of Texas Instrument DLP chip. Should be available in August.

I'd rather wait till I have a home where I can get a real setup. Will the iFi's work well for a nice sounding 2.1 system for DVD playback. Has anyone done this, and what are your thoughts. Michael MDFilms ---------------- This would make a good DVD playback setup because you can have the satellites quite a distance from the subwoofer for good stereo image playback. The satellites are also wall mountable so you can place them anywhere. The subwoofer is one of the cleanest sounding 8" units out there especially with LF sound effects. Should work well from a laptop or desktop if that is what your DVD playback source is.
  23. ---------------- On 7/24/2005 8:16:41 PM Blackmesa wrote: yes, it can be, and there are not many competitors at its price range. What is interesting is that even the most expensive surround sound PC systems don't match the quality of sound offered by the iFi and most people who buy surround sound don't actually need it! They would be better off spending that same amount in a higher quality 2.1 system. That is exactly what the iFi is if you can accept the added iPod feature which does add some cost to the system, but relative to the amount you pay for the sound, Its really not that much. Most iPod speakers are doubled or tripled in cost for the little dock feature, Klipsch could sell the iFi without the dock for the same price and it would still be reasonable. ---------------- I was reading the August MacHome review on the iFi (5 out 5) but again there is no mention of using this iFi for anything but with a Ipod. Do the reviewer's focus on only Ipod capabilities? At least CNET and Playlist mention the additonal inputs for other sources. But right at the end of the Playlist review the author tells you this: "Those shopping for speakers for their desktop should look elsewhere, but for a home stereo setting, the iFi is the best sounding system we've heard". FYI the August U.S. Macworld quotes this same line in a very short review. (Same contributing editor) BTW I enjoyed your own review very much Blackmesa, which is what first attracted me really to the uniqueness of this 2.1 speaker system. Its not just a another plastic system that will last a year. As someone who has used many forms of hign quality audio speakers I am absolutely amazed by how little marketing of decent speaker systems exist for computer users. A few years ago most vendors attempted to market some decent computer speakers but then it seemed the PC market was constantly trying to make things cheaper and adbandoned high quality computer speakers. Lately build quality has been pretty pathetic until the iFi project. Nice to see something sold that could last a few years. I also agree that a good 2.1 system beats a mediocre surround system any day. I love the fact that the sub is quite cool when operating and doesn't have a huge heatfin assembly like other vendors we know. Cheers
  24. A lot of the early mag reviews and online opinions seem to steer any perspective buyer to the fact that this excellent 2.1 speaker system is only for iPod owners even though there is a line input on the sub. Is Klipsch marketing kinda shooting themselves in the foot by not addressing the fact that you could use this cool system as a near field desktop speaker system also? Think Versatility! IMHO I think their are a lot of perspective user's looking for a really good 2.1 speaker system compared to the competition.
