  1. I have just set up my 7.2 RF-7 system, so I though I´d post some pics. Might be interesting for you. I am sitting very close to the rear wall, so I had to find a solution that works for the rear surrounds. I mounted them overhead which makes them sound "further away". I tried to mount them right behind me, which made it nearly impossible to hear a difference between surrounds and rear surrounds. As the human ear is unable to precisely locate sounds that come from behind the overhead mounting works good in my "ears".
  2. Good morning everyone! I have a little problem. I picked up a used AR Chronos W38 from my local dealer on saturday for a great price. My dealer is actually a good friend of mine so I know that a I am usually making a good buy. Well... I took off the front cover last night and found that the dustcap in the middle of the woofer had been pushed in. Don´t laugh at me... but I used my vacuum cleaner to "suck" it back out again. The dustcap is now looking the way it should, but it is a little weakened in some spots. Can anyone tell me if this will hurt the woofers performance in some way? Off course I can bring the woofer back.... but then again I would not have this nice big woofer for such a good price.... Have a nice day! Nick
  3. Ok. This might be interesting now. I will give you some european prices! ;-) The prices will be in euro... so the dollar price will be a little higher. The price in brackets is what I paid. Speakers: Klipsch RF7s, RC-7, 4 x RS-7, KSW-12, LP 7.000,- (4.500,-) Sub: AR Chronos W38, 1.290,- (400,-) Speaker Cables: Van den Hul Skyline, approx. 250,- Beamer: Infocus SP5700 4.500,- Amp/Processor: Primare SPA-20, 3.100,- (1.990,-) 2-channel amp (rear surrounds): Cambridge Audio P500, 250,- DVD-Player: Primare DVD-30, 2.750,- (1.990,-) Interconnects: approx. 200,- power cords: 2 x HMS Energia SL, 400,- power distribution: HMS Energia, 450,- wall socket: HMS Energia, 30,- Sorry! Got to go. I will complete the list later! Nick
  4. Thanks for the nice welcome! And thanks for the information. I picked up the RF-7 system at my local dealer yesterday. To add a little more punch to the whole system I bought an acoustic research chronos W38 woofer, which was on sale. The system is now set up as follows: Front: RF-7s Center: RC-7 Surround: RS-7s supported by KSW-12 Rear-Surrounds: SB-15s at the moment, but I have another pair of RS-7s. I just have to find a good way to mount them. SW: ar chronos w38 I have routed the surround channels trough the KSW-12. To make this work, I had to make some adjustments to my processor. First, I set the surrounds to large, making sure they will be "hit" with the full bandwith signal. Second I set the bass handling to "both", which will send all bass information to the lfe as well as to the speakers set to "large". Result: Amazing. Listening to Diana Kralls "The girl in the other room" SACD is overwhelming. They DO send low frequenzies to the rear channels. Same thing with "the incredibles". I will have a test session tonight. I will post my findings tomorrow. Thanks everybody for your help. Now I have to clean up the mess here (screwdrivers, drills, cables....). Have a nice day! Nick

There is no problem running the RW-10 off you receiver's speaker outputs. It is a powered sub. That means it has it's own amplifier built in. In other words, the receiver won't be driving the sub, the sub's amp will be. Seriously, I would not buy anything from this Bozo again and I certainly would not take any advice from him! Enjoy your new sub! ---------------- Good Morning! Will the subs amp amplify the signal even if you connect the sub via the rear speaker in/out terminals? I am not sure myself and the manual does not give this information. I know the amp will work if you connect the sub via line in or lfe. I am asking this, becaus I am thinking about buying a second sub to add more punch to the surround channels. As the LFE of my amp is already connected to my main sub, I would have to run the second sub via the rear speaker terminals. Nick
  6. Oops! Well... maybe we should open an "US-European communication thread"? I would go for the call if Tom pays the phone bill. Let me see... Austria to Texas.. thats probably just a few thousand miles! Can´t be that expensive, can it? Ok... seriously. Let´s switch to email tk - Keeping the rest of our conversation top secret! Good night! Nick
  7. Yepp... no LFE out on the KSW-15. I will leave it linked to my amps lfe as it is right now. BUT what I could do is, buy, lets say, a ksw-12 or 2 ksw-10 and link them to my surrounds via the rear speaker terminals on the sub(s). This way the signal below 100hz will be cut off and sent to the sub. Everything above will go to the speakers. Might add some serious punch to the surround channel this way. The way the SB-15s are mounted right now works great. Even when sitting so close to the rear wall the rear surrounds complete the sound perfectly. I will try the RS-7s in the rear and see how they perform. By the way: Have you every watched "Open Range"? You should get the special edition, which includes DTS 6.1 discrete sound. The rain scene in the beginning is a great example of what a good sound mix can do. Hmm... toeing them in enough to see the throat of the horns should be possible. I just won´t get the same angle as my RF-3s have at the moment. If I dont like it that way, I will throw the little white tables out. Have a nice evening!

My teacher always told me that I will not become a famous mathematician. I guess it´s quite evident now, why..... Thank you for the little lesson. I will put the calculator under my pillow tonight! And by the way... my speaker cables are ALL differnt lengths... and I mean each and every one of my 7 speakers! Nick - smarter now
  9. Well... large desire makes space relative I guess! I am looking into having a small system installed in my company´s meeting room. I think it would be a nice fringe benefit for my employees to be able to watch a nice movie after work. Hmm.... just checked my KSW-15. No LFE-out. But there is a speaker in and speaker out terminal. Got to check on the manual what this terminal does. Maybe I could connect my surrounds there! One pair of RS-7s will work as "normal surrounds" replacing the RS-3s. The other pair will replace the RB-15s as rear surrounds. I am actually happy to have the RS-7s instead of the bookshelf speakers as this will blend in with the system better. I also think they will produce a more "enveloping" sound in the rear. But even if I did want to have an RC-7 or bookshelfs it wouldnt be possible, as my dealer only sells the set "as is". I was wondering: Do you have your RF7-s toed in to your listening position? I found that this improves the soundstage of the RF-3s a lot. I will not be able to position the RF-7s at the exact same angle, because the space for the left speaker is VERY small. Schönen Abend! Nick
  10. ---------------- On 8/5/2005 8:27:01 AM meuge wrote: I don't get how you came up with that conclusion. If you lose 1%, you're left with 99%... if you amplify it tenfold, you have 990%... NOT 900. ---------------- You have just given the answer to yourself! You end up with 990% on the one amp (and its connected speakers) and 1000% on the other amp (the one with the shorter wire), thus you have a 10% loss on the "990% side". What I was pointing out is, that you will "amplify" the signal difference. 1% of signal loss on a speaker wire will not be audible. But amplifying the 1% loss by factor 10 through the amp might be audible. I don´t know if this really is the case... i was just figuring it might be this way.
  11. Well.... then again... you could simply increase the gain of that speaker (or speakers) when calibrating the system..
  12. Hi there! I dont really see a reason to have all the feeds in the same length either. You will not have an audible offset because one cable is longer that the other. Someone in another forum once calculated how large the difference in lenght must be to be audible. Given, that the electrons inside the cable travel almost at light speed, you would need kilometers of difference to hear an offset. One thing that MIGHT be audible is the fact, that a longer cable will have more resistance than a shorter cable with the same diameter thus there will be greater signal loss from the pre-amp to the amp. As the amp will then amplify the signal the effect might be audible, as it will also multiply the "signal difference". Say you are loosing 1 percent of signal power from the pre-amp to the amp. The signal is then amplified by factor 10. So you would have 10% less power coming out of your speakers. Can anyone, who REALLY knows electronics comment on that? This is just what i figured.... Nick
  13. Hm. I think there´s a sticker saying "Made with pride in the USA" on my RF3-IIs. It also has the signature of the person who final-checked the speakers on it! Gonna check on that tonight. Nick
  14. Hi there! So here is my european home theater with Klipsch power! The RF3 system will be replaced with a complete RF-7 system on saturday. Thought I´d post some pictures before and after. So this is "before" http://www.heimkino.at/referenzen/main_d_1_26.htm "after" comes somewhen next week... That is, if I manage to take pictures beeing all exited about my new RF-7 babies! Nick
  15. Good evening! ;-) 3 small hts? Wow... big house! I like the idea of traveling around and checking out all kinds of audiophile stuff. I would love to see the Klipsch Factory... Maybe I will do that somewhen next year. I haven´t been to the US for quite a while now. I will pick the RF-7 system up on saturday. The RF-7s will replace the RF-3-IIs. I will either sell the RF-3s to friends of mine or return them to my dealer. Neither my budget nor the space in my living room would allow me to use the RF-3s as surrounds. So 2 pairs of RS-7s will do the job! I like the fact, that you are using 2 subs. How do you integrate the second sub into the system? I mean where does it get its signal from? Linked to the surrounds? Nick
  16. Hi there! I am not married yet, but after three years of beeing single I finally have a girlfriend again, so.... no messing around with aussie girls. (Oh welll... there were some positive aspects about beeing single... I realize...) Well... Weizenbier is not for everybody... thats true. I found that you either love it or hate it... there´s nothing in between. Thanks for the compliment on my ht. I just very recently built the black lining around the projection screen and my god does it make a difference. The SP5700 is a nice projector when looking at color reproduction. When looking at the black levels its simply a big bad light cannon. Thats why it´s going to be replaced by the new Optoma H78. This is one amazing piece of equipment. If your local dealer has one, take the time to check it out. Almost perfect blacks, beautiful out-of-the-box color reproduction and incredibly silent. You have to look at the operating led to know it is on.... you just cannot hear it´s on. Well.... wating for the RF-7s is just like waiting for christmas and birthday on the same day! I live in the outskirts of vienna. Its about 35 minutes by car to the center of town (that is without traffic jams). No, I dont work in the HT-Business. This is my local dealers website. You can tell they are into Klipsch too, eventhough they stock a number of other brands. I like that, because you can really compare and listen to things and find out for yourself what you like. I actually run an advertising agency and a graphics studio here in vienna! Are you in the HT Business? Or just infected with "the virus" like me? Schöne Grüsse Nick
  17. Good Morning! Guten Morgen! Tell me about them Aussie girls... *hehe*. Some people remember the mountains, some people remember the historical sites and some people remember the sexy girls they have seen. I think I know where we belong! "Zwei Weizenbier bitte" is actually a VERY important phrase. It can save your life on a hot summer day! Before I install the RF-7 system tomorrow here are some (poor qualitiy) pictures of the way my system looks at the moment. http://www.heimkino.at/referenzen/main_d_1_26.htm Have a nice day! Schönen Tag! Nick
  18. Well you are right. It´s not quite time to go to bed yet, but thank you anyways. Your spelling might not be perfect, but I can understand what you are saying! Where did you learn german? Not very common among US citizens! Here is the correct spelling(hope the admins dont mind a little german here). Lieber tdamerica, schlafen sie gut. Ups, noch garnicht so spät - entschuldigen sie mich bitte! meaning: dear tdamerica, have a good night. Oops, not that late yet - excuse me please! Nick
  19. Well... amazing enough you know any german at all! ;-) It is a language hard to learn! I will take pictures once everything is set up. My living room will be crammed with speakers, that´s for sure! Time to go home for today! Have a nice day! Schönen Tag noch! Nick
  20. Thanks for the nice welcome! I started out with a Klipsch Quintett system which I found just amazing for the size and price. My dealer then offered me an RF3-II system at an amazing price. Since that time I am hooked. My dealer has 3 very nicely equipped studios and I listen to all sorts of speakers regularly. Yes, there are speakers out there that sound a bit more "refined" than Klipschs and do have better numbers when tested in the lab BUT: Most of these speakers cost three or more times as much as the comparable Klipschs AND eventhough the reproduction might be more accurate on the paper it is far away from beeing more gripping or intense than the Klipschs. I just love the way the horn reproduces voices. Its almost as if the singer was in the same room with you. On saturday I will finally own an RF-7 set. I cant wait to hear it! 38 degrees is seriously hot. We had 38 degrees in Vienna last Friday, which is VERY unusual here in Austria. Nick
  21. Its 5pm here. 6 hours time difference. Well... now that I´ve had a look at the auricap website, I am tempted to give my amp a little treatment too!
  22. Hi Dean! Thank you for the quick answer. What time is it over there? ;-) I will take out the x-overs once the RF-7s have been delivered. Then I will probably understand better, which parts go where! Thank you!
  23. First of all "Hi everybody". I am the new kid in town! ;-) By the way. I am living overseas.... in Austria to be exact. So please excuse me if I my english isn´t all that perfect, my native language is german. I´ve been following the "DeanG crossover hype" closely and I have to say, that I am more than interested to do some "tuning" on my Klipschs. I am currently owning an RF-3-II System in 7.1 setup (using 2 SB-15 as rear surrounds). This will change on saturday though, when my RF-7 system (7.1.) finally arrives (using 2 RS-7 as rear surrounds! ). Here are my questions: 1) Is there a way to do the x-over tuning yourself? I guess sending the x-overs to the US and back will probably triple the cost. - I am familiar with soldering and other basic technical things. I dont know anything though about the parts needed, the wiring, and so on. 2) Beeing the curious person that I am, I once took apart my RF-3-IIs, finding that on the one hand they were wired with monstercable, but on the other hand the horn and the drivers were only weakly connected using cheap looking "connectors" ( i dont know the correct word for those in english... sorry). Reluctant to go for soldered connections I used pliers to improve the connection by tightly squeezing those connectors. Are the RF-7s soldered internally? Will it do any good to solder these internal connections? I guess better connection means better electrical flow resulting in better, more detailed sound. I cant wait to hear what the RF-7s will do.... as I already love my RF3-IIs. By the way. I am using a Primare SPA-20 Receiver and a Primare DVD-30 player (which is also SACD ready). Anyone of you familiar with these? Have a nice day! Nick
