  1. If the problem comes up again, then I would look to the quality of your wall voltage, perhaps considering some filtering. "When" this occurs again (not trying to imply that it will), you should try replacing the fuse to see if the subwoofer still works - in which case it's probably not the subwoofer that is at fault.

that monster surge supressor (sw200) has clean power stage 1 (in their terminology). i was thinking about getting that just for the sub. plugs right into the wall and is about the size of a hand. though over priced, i like the size and it has 1110 joule rating and an audible surge alarm. i found a price on e-bay about 1/2 compaired to everywhere else.

and yep i did replace the fuse with the correct slow blow 3.15. it blew as soon as i flicked the power switch.

and you are correct i am just curious.....just like that monkey george.[:D] hopefully the repair center will relay to me what the damage was.

  2. thanks, i knew it was a short causing the fuse to pop.

interesting testing technique. i'll try to remember that if i need it in the future.

it is still under waranty, off being repaired right now.

any idea what possibly caused the short? i mean i know what a short is and some things that could cause it (loose wire, bad soldering ect.) i suppose what i mean is what would cause it to short when not being used , siting idle in power save mode? just a bad amp?

is there anything i should be doing to prevent any future issues?

do you recomend a surge suppresor for a sub? (i've read yes and no) but have never thought about asking you, THE KING OF SUBS.

what do you think of those specialty supressors for subs made by monster?

  3. my sub-12 that is less than a year old is out being repaired. the fuse blew while sitting idle but still plugged up. i replaced the fuse with a correct new one and it blew immediately when power was applied.

we've had no lightning storms recently. i can remember only 1 power outage that may have caused any sort of surge. (no surge protector on the sub)

what are you're thoughts on what the damage may be and what caused it?

  4. mine are connected to the bottom. i read on here once, a long time ago, that they're supposed to be connected to the LF if not bi-wiring. cant remember why, cant find the post. personally i don't think it matters which you use. as long as the gold plates are there. but i never tried it the other way.

  5. i thought it was an interesting movie . but i suppose i expected more from it. kind of disapointed. IMO, the best part was the beginning with the effect of following a bullet.

  6. tv's come from the factory with all the settings way off. they run them way too hot. they do this so the consumer will notice the beautiful bright picture in the florecent lights of the store. these hot color settings will shorten the life of bulb. get a set up disk such as avia. and use it to calibrate the picture. i bet it will look even better to you and last longer too.

  7. had several boxers once. they have passed. no fence.. .woods. the speakers are mounted same as yours. except my eaves are low enough for me to touch with a short stool and the speakers i can remove flat footed on the deck.

i think i have an idea. there is a threaded hole for using another type mounting bracket. i think i can get a bolt with a loop on the end to fit that hole then attatch a steel cable around it and attach the other end of the cable to the rafters. may be too much trouble to remove for the average thief.

  8. not too worried about the brackets. the speakers are secured to the brackets by ,for lack of better words, large plastic nuts. very simple to unscrew and remove the speaker leaving the bracket. designed so the user can rotate the speaker in the direction wanted. i live in a rural area , very quiet neighborhood...except for me....yep im that guy. just worried someone might be over (meter man, gas man) and decide they like them too.

i thought about putting lock tight (a liquid thread locker) on the threads but the stuff that gets tight enough to prevent removal by hand requires heating with a torch to break the bond. definitely would prevent steeling but also would prevent me from rotating them or relocating them if desired in the future.

maybe im just paranoid. never had anything stolen around here before. but i keep everything else locked.

BTW. the sound i would say is as good as most of my friends home stereos. definitely lacking on the bass. but better than the other outdoor speakers I've heard. i did not purchase the SW-800 (outdoor sub).the speakers are plenty loud and clear. got a real good deal on ebay.

i spend a lot of time on the deck and was worried I'd clip my amp cranking the house stereo.

drwho suggested outdoor speakers many moons ago.

  9. finally got some outdoor speakers so i dont have to open the windows and crank it any more. i got the AW-650. definately the best sounding all weather speaker i've heard. anyone have any idea how i can secure these to prevent them from walking off and living with someone else?

  10. SF-3's (which by the way I got the last pair at best buy for just $200 because it was discontinued.)

didnt know the synergy III F-3 was discontinued. they are still the same price at our BB. are yours synergy 3 ?

I don't quite know how to set my sub to match my SF-3's or how to set the phase level.

see my earlier post in this thread.

  11. Reochamp.

i like them a lot. i didnt have the oportunity to try out the reference series. at BB synergy were the best they had (bought mine with gift cards). my privious speakers were denons before that technics and before that sherwood. these definately are better than all of them. they can be kind of bright because of the horns but i like the sound. adding the sub-12 seemed to have tamed them a little or i got used to them. i mostly listen to heavy metal but like all types of music. when i first got them i was amazed at all the small things i could hear that i didnt know were there before. like fingers on the frets or lips smacking on a solo singer.

  12. There is alot more to setup then just volume levels and you will enjoy playing with it

true i'll whip mine out when the kids and their friends get too loud and show them how loud they are.

ive never used an auto set up feature on a reciever so i really dont know if the microphone does a good job or not. what i do know is that the SPL meter is a valuable tool that can be used for setting up speaker levels. it will also help you find high pressure points in your room caused by sound waves bouncing off the walls. which will aid you in speaker placement , seating arangement, and acoustcal tratments .

they cost about 30 bucks for an analog model or 50 for a digital model at radio shack. they both do the same thing ,just have a different display. i like to watch the needle move and i'm a cheap sob so i got the analog one.

because you dont have your speakers yet. and you havent been around audio forums for very long . you dont think the meter will be usefull to you ( i was the same way). i had everything set up and enjoyed the sound. the more i read around here and asked questions and kept hearing "get an SPL meter" i decided what the heck they dont cost that much. then i used it to set up right and wow what a difference.

i still have some things to do. i got the rives audio disc to make further adjustments but have not used it yet. i also got a heck of an echo that i have to deal with eventually. i'll get there. the meter was the 1st step. i'm not saying run out and buy it right now. but after you get everything, try it out. hang around here . you may find yourself wanting MORE, BETTER. then get it. or you might not ever get the MORE , BETTER syndrom. alot of people set up their systems by ear and are completely happy with it.

  13. before i set everything up correctly i watched WOTW. gain was too high, phase was wrong. and i Love it Loud also. -10 on Denon receiver. didn't damage any of my stuff.

get the SPL meter , set it up right , and enjoy. you will be much happier with it all set up right.

then the fun starts....room modes, reflections, bass traps, acoustic treatments..the madness never ends.

I'll try and answer some of your issues.

what meter are you talking about?

    Sound pressure level meter.

Is the Synergy sub-12 not a good high end sub?

the sub-12 is a good sub..dont know that i would consider it high end though

    Whats to loud?

if the sub is bottoming out distorting its to loud

Can the Denon 3805 not give me enough power to where I have to worry about my sub blowing or my other speakers like my F-3 on movies like WOTW?

the sub has its own amp. F-3's don't need much power to play loud. but you can clip the receiver amp and fry them (the tweeters will go first). at -10 my Denon avr683 80 wpc does not clip. this is about 98db at 12ft from speaker with SPL meter.

I haven't received all my speakers yet they will be in on Friday along w/Denon 3805

    they'll probably be there sooner

All I have at hom now is my sub-12 and old speakers on my old 5.1 Onkyo A/V

    Onkyo is a good receiver

spend some time reading on this forum, look at some old posts, you'll learn a lot. and by all means ask.ask.ask.
