  1. i think they should give them to him[] . then he should give me the rest of his subs.[]
  2. mine sounds best to the left front , in the corner also. if you think it sounds best on the opposite wall then by all means put it there. i would definitely consider a shorter run of cable if possible. around the baseboard would probably half the cable length. I'd suggest bluejeanscable.com if you want a well made cable at a respectable price without all the hype. sounds like you're using the high pass terminals on the woofer (correct me if I'm wrong). this would mean you need a lot more that 70' of cable to connect the + and - from both mains to the sub. however if you are using the LFE in on the sub id go with a shielded coax terminated with good RCA plugs.
  3. 95 percent of the music i listen to is rock n roll in one form or another (mostly heavy metal). It sounds fine to me, blends really well with the F-3's in my house. Nothing at BB ever sounds "right" to me. some setups there sound better than others but none sound "right". when i went to look at the sub-12 they had the gain almost maxed out and the crossover at about 50hz. playing rap. the portable wall behind the speakers was rattling.....just sounded awful. i adjusted it to sound better. but it still didn't sound as good as it does in my house.
  4. i can wait. digital is 20 bucks more. their are correction charts think i saw them somewhere, not sure if it was here or another forum. with the same pink noise to set levels are the static test tones in my receiver considered pink or do i need to purchase a disc for this?
  5. thanks y'all. I'll check the site again. when i searched the site using "SPL" they only showed the digital. digital would be fine for me but i think i read that they weren't as accurate as the analogue. Merry Christmas
  6. stopped by the local rat shack today to check on an SPL meter. (guy didn't know what one was until i told him what it was for) anyhow, they only have a digital one (i believe the recommendations on here call for an analogue one) checked the web site and thats all they have too. can anyone recommend a particular brand close to the same price as the radio shack? or does brand even matter , are there inconstancies in readings by brand? can ya point me to a website ?
  7. I came here long before i purchased any klipsch products ,reading and surfing around before becoming a member and finally buying klipsch. i stayed for exactly the reason stated by dale. some other AV sites have members that are down right rude, especially to newbies. sarcasm is one thing, mean and nasty is another. i go to forums to share thoughts and information and get help when needed from people who are interested in the same thing, not to be belittled or made a fool of. i hate to see someone who has spent a long time here loose their PRIVILEGE to be here. if he was engaging in acts deemed improper according to the rules we all agreed to when registering as members then something needed to be done. if removal of that privilege is stated as punishment for that infraction then so be it. i don't know the specifics around the expulsion but if a moderator did it to prevent this forum from becoming unruly i applaud her. My 2 cents.
  8. (sorry that quote was from "kramskoi")The local store will match the web price. I'd print it out for proof just in case the price changes the day you go down. also when i bought mine last week they were also giving a $50 gift card with the purchase of select items , sub 12 included. you also get the same deal on line and at that time they were giving free shipping. to me thats a good deal for the sub-12. no technical data, just my ears, but i have to say i like it very much, especially at that price.
  9. i just got the same sub. congrats on your purchase. the synergy sub-12 doesn't have a bypass that i can see. so you'll have to turn the cross over up. check out the post "which subwoofer should i use" DrWho has given me some great info.
  10. thanks for the info DrWho. Will do. Gotta get an SPL meter.. its on my list. my understanding is to get the radio shack analog one, not the digital one. found some other useful info on the audioholics web site. again , thanks
  11. yes, i fear i will soon go mad....... I'm going to spend some time researching bass management. don't know if the info i get will lessen the madness or propagate it. because i have never had a real subwoofer i really don't know what to listen for. how will i know when it is right? what does it sound like when a sub is over extending or bottoming out? BTW, war of the worlds was awesome last night.....the wife kept looking at me and smiling...it's a totally different experience when you can feel the movie. it's the first time i could tell she was getting a lot of enjoyment out of our audio equipment. she liked it when i went to surround sound , even though she says she cant hear the sound move from speaker to speaker or hear anything coming from the rear unless she concentrates on hearing it. she says with the surround on she can hear the dialog more clearly. But the sub had her tickled to death. best purchase i have ever made in my opinion.
  12. i tried flipping the switch by myself, maybe something was lost during my movement from chair to sub, but i couldn't tell a difference. I'll get help later. so on one thats 90 degree out of phase, the switch (0 or 180)is useless. nothing can be done? also , i just set it up by ear (no spl meter) with music. I don't have much to compare it to but i think i have to agree that this is a musical sub. i played a Gene Simmons bass guitar solo, iron maiden, and some rap. sounded very good. except for the rattle of nick knacks. my son walked outside, across the road into the neighbors yard(about 75 yards) he said he could still hear it. I fear for the side neighbors, the houses are only about 30 feet apart . gain is set just a little past 12 o'clock. receiver volume at -10 (gotta love it loud) have not watched a movie with it yet. maybe tonight I'll pop in war of the worlds. it's got some ungodly low frequencies in it. as far as set up. on the receiver i tried with the mains set on small and large. i tried with the sub set to normal and plus mains.and all variations of the previous. as far as for music i think i like it best with mains at large and plus mains. but then again i may have to move the sub around some and play with the gain some. i tried lowering the sub volume on the receiver in 1 decibel increments from -0 to off. thinking this would free up some power in the receiver and just let the sub amp do all the work. dang if i didn't learn something. off really means off ,as in sub no sound. so i left it at -0 as well as the mains. "Also, the sub woofer and mains won't be summing their signal either so you'll have to boost the sub's gain by 3dB to compensate." please explain, do you mean sub + main = 3db less. or are you assuming i would set the receiver to sub normal, not plus mains. sub normal sends everything below the crossover to the sub only. plus main includes those frequencies in the mains as well. well .....got to go play some more.
  13. this is what i was told and it sounds right to me that is why i said what i said. A good test to see how musical a subwoofer is, is to play some good music that has an actual bass guitar in it and unplug your mains. A bad sub will go "thunk - thunk-thunk" and a good sub will go "boing-boing-boing". In other words, a musical subwoofer will have a more "round sound" and will not be "one note" or plodding. It will sound more like an instrument and less like a speaker. but that doesn't really matter now , except as information. you see, today i noticed the sub-12 on sale at BB for $484.49 + a free $50 gift card. i thought that was a good deal. and thought what have i got to loose. it has to be better than what i have. so i played around with their floor model a bit until someone showed up. i tried to get him(he was a manager, dress shirt and tie, no blue shirt) to throw in a free monster sub cable and even after i walked away and out the door he wouldn't. so i went back after getting a bite to eat and purchased the sub. haven't set it up or anything yet, just took it out of the box. first impression is that it looks as well made as the rest of the synergy line, not as heavy as i had thought it would be, kind of disappointed it doesn't have the black wood grain that the F-3's have. (the BB web site said it did). also, why in the world don't they put more information in their user guides? I'll post back when i get it plugged and placed and let you know my thoughts on the sound. and of course if i have any problems i know where to come. by the way, have you any idea if the phase should be 0 or 180 to match the rest of the synergy line? or is it just a whatever sounds best thing?
  14. i think for my situation 1 sub will be all i can deal with right now. I only have 1 corner available that may be the best place for one but I'll just have to try it when i get it. really don't want to stack 2 subs. and if i got 2 for the balanced image ...i think it would be awfully difficult to calibrate as 1 would be on carpet in a corner and the other would most likely be on the hardwood without a corner. Can you recommend some music that has a lot of bass guitar in it so i can check out the sub-12 and see just how musical it is? thats if BB will let me play my music with only the sub and no mains. by the way my mind is not made up yet. i am still open to suggestions for my situation. i am in the process of diagramming the area to send to SVS to see what they recommend.
  15. 2 Klipsch Sub-12 $1020.00 +shipping and tax ---VS---- 1 SVS PB12-plus/2 $1199.00 + shipping, no tax ?
  16. thanks drwho I did question about the sub-12 with no response concerning that particular part of my post. from previous posts you know that i do enjoy my music loud and hard, but also want to feel movies. at 509.99 for the sub-12 at BB i would definitely consider the thought of 2 subs. i could purchase one now and if i felt like i needed more add another later. however 1 sub would be much easier to place and calibrate. what i do know is that on other forum sites SVS is talked about a lot and come highly recommended. klipsch subs hardly ever come up in discussion. And when they do, rarely receives a favorable response (that I've seen). don't know if this means they are bad subs or if simply for the price better can be had. does anyone have any opinions comparing 2 sub-12 to a single PB12-plus/2 ? or any other about the sub-12?
  17. puts a heck of a dimple in the kids college fund too... seriously doubt I'll be going that rout. guess i just dont love it that much.
  18. i spent some time yesturday on the SVS web site. very informative, nice product. almost makes me want to spend more on better sub. i like the fact that you can send them your room dimensions and a diagram of the room and they will suggest a sub as well as placement. am considering dual subs as suggested by theear. but i am a novice and dont want to get in over my head with setup and calibration. also not to sure SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) will allow dual subs. however the cylinder subs by SVS look interesting and may be ok with her. would you choose a single PB12-plus/2 over a single PB12-ISD/2 for my situation as stated in previous post? gonna check out some other recomendations later today.
  19. not intending to hijack this thread but i found his situation (room size) very similar to mine. the room is exactly 21.5Lx27Wx11.5H (i just measured). it is open to a kitchen on one side and a hall way on the other side (no doors) which is not in the previous measurements. Half the room is hardwood and half is carpet. the actual sitting area with components is carpet and measures 21.5x15. i listen to alot of music and watch many movies so I'd say 50/50. I like a feel it in your chest slam from a kick drum as well as deep explosions. but don't need to crack the windows I think anything bigger will be an improvement over what i have currently. in case your interested its a Denon 8" that came with a home theater in a box. It worked fine for movies when i had the dinky cube speakers but is not near adequate paired with the F-3,S-3 and C-3. and is severely lacking for music. it's just not good enough anymore. i have the fever. I've not went shopping yet but have been reading through the sub woofer forum a lot lately in anticipation of acquiring something better. i seem to collect lots of best buy gift cards (thats what bought the F-3's and helped buy the others) if the trend continues it may fund a new sub soon. Looks like the best they have on their site is the klipsch sub-12. Any opinions on this sub? If i have absolutely got to , i will save the cards and fund a better sub by some other means. i would guess my budget could squeeze a grand, maybe more. I'm pretty good about saving if it's something i really want. what do you all suggest?
  20. "Room is about 30x20--I like my music loud--money 200-400--70%music to 30% HT" So what sub would you recommend if he didn't state a low budget what if the budget was say 4-800 ? 8-1200? just wondering.
  21. I just copied and pasted the location of the file on my computer into the line on the avatar page and it worked. I think it took a few minutes before it actually started moving. also, once i attempted to "steal" someone else's avatar from another web forum and i couldn't get it to work no matter what i tried. (the link changes after inserted into a forum, i believe). maybe try posting your question on the FORUM thread. (second from the bottom on the main page) someone there should be able to help.

    F3's?

I love my F-3's. so much that i also purchased the C-3 and S-3's. I use them for 2 channel stereo, 5 channel stereo, and surround sound movies. I think for the price they cant be beat. They sound good without a sub woofer but really benefit from using one. I think this is also true of the reference series. Mine are feed from a Denon using 14g monster cable. I've got a really large room with cathedral ceilings. They fill the room loudly and cleanly.
  23. Oh. i reread my post .....i did say SS-3 once ......must have been a miss type..darn sticky keys
