  1. I am about to purchase around 100 feet of speaker wire from monoprice. Can anyone tell me the difference between the

    Product
    ID: 2816

12AWG CL3 Rated Loud Speaker Cable - 50ft (For In-Wall Installation) and the
12AWG Enhanced Loud Oxygen-Free Copper Speaker Cable - 50ft. One is cl3 rated loud speaker and is for in wall installation. Is there really that much difference? Also should I get 12 awg or will one of the larger number gauges work as well?

    Thanks

  2. We have a set of synergy f-3's, S-3's C-3, and 12 inch sub that we are wanting a receiver for. I went into best buy today thinking I was going to buy the pioneer VSX-1016TX, however the bestbuy sales person recommended the Harmon Kardon

AVR-247 instead saying it was much better than the pioneer. They were even recommending the yamaha over the pioneer as well. Now I know power isn't everything, but pioneer seems to have alot more per channel that the harmon receiver. Which would be best for these set of speakers. We also looked at the dennon avr-1907, however it doesn't have hdmi which we really wanted.

  3. My father just purchased a lakehouse, as he is getting ready to retire in a couple of years. We are trying to outfit it with some new stuff, and stuff I currently have. Above the fireplace will more than likely be a 50 inch pioneer or panasonic plasma, not mounted, but on the stand. I have a set of synergy speakers I got for really cheap while working at bestbuy during college. I have 2 f 3's, 2 3's, 1 c3, and the 12 inch synergy sub. Probably going to buy the pioneer 1016 to push them which should be plenty. We considered buying two more s-3's for a 7.1 setup as well.

The room itself isn't great at all for a home theater room, but we want to try it. Since my speakers are just sitting in the closet as I live in a town house now we are going to use them. Below is a simple houseplan diagram i was able to find on the internet of the house. Ignore the outside design of the house, as its different. I have also included some real pictures of the room so you all can get a better idea of the room looks like. In the pictures I've added where I thought the speakers would work, but I could be way off. Any advice would be great.

Here is a link to the images at photobucket, as I couldn't get them to size right just inserting them in thread

  4. The main reason that I wanted 1080i was for xbox360 games that supported it. Will the LCD be able to display the games in 1080i that support it? The two main things I will be using this tv for is Over the air HD broadcast which are pretty much all in 720p, and gaming. I'm not even sure if the 1080i would be better looking for gaming anyway. I know for tv broadcast for the most part 720p would be better.

I am 99 percent going to go with the LCD, I just wanted to clear up the questions about the 1080i and the xbox360 games before I made the decision.

  5. Alright I will be getting a second HDTV for christmas for our rec room

where I have all console games/computer stuff. We already have a 46 Inch samsung dlp

in the living room and love it but want something smaller and cheaper

for the rec room plus my wife wont let me put any fun stuff in the living room:) I am leaning towards the LG, is there a reason I shouldn't buy a Tube if I don't have space issues.

    Here are my requirments.

    1. Size does not matter at all, that is why I am leaning towards the LG CRT.

    2. 800-900 dollars before tax

    3. Must have built in HD turner

    4. Must last awhile (again that is why I'm leaning towards TUBE)

    5. I would like 1080i and 720p, I dont think these LCD's can do 1080i

The LG 30inch crt, remember the size doesn't matter:

    The 32 inch HP LCD

    Not

to sure about an HP tv but its a really good price at 899. Only thing

is I dont think these next two will do 1080i. I think that max

resolution would be around 720p is this right?

    And finally a 26inch Samsung:

    Definately

a more reliable brand for me as my DLP is a samsung, but I dont know if

I want to go down to 26 inches, and also concern that it won't do 1080i

    like above.

  6. This is actually for my dad's house, as he currently has a 200 pound 36 inch hd tube tv loo. I had planned on getting him the 46 inch LCD made by samsung as I get it for a nice price, but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't possible for me to get a 50 inch plasma. In the room you would pretty much have to place it above the fire place. It setup that the fire place is in the center of the wall and on the left side is where the big tv sits in a cabinet, and the other side has a book shelf. No where else to really hang it. The tv he has in there now is noticable bowing the shelves it sits on, so its time for a change.

  7. Alright I have heard various things about hanging a plasma above a wood burning fire place. I've been told that you should not do it as the heat would greatly shorten the life of the plasma, and that they should only be hung over gas fireplaces. I've heard that it was ok to hang LCD's over real fireplaces however. So which is true, is it safe to hang a plasma over a real fire place. The fire place that would b e used has vent and mantle so I doubt the tv would come into that much contact with the heat, but I want to make sure.

  8. Its interesting I saw that you have 2 b3's as your surrounds. This is just for my own curiousity why do you have those instead of the s-3's. I have your exact setup except I have the s-3's. So I was just wondering. Also how do you like your receiver. I'm still in the market for one as I just got my speakers and don't have a place for them at the moment. I'm kind of taking my time on them. :)

  9. I have this set of speakers as well. The f-3's c-3's s-3's and the 12 inch sub. Paid 1032.00 and was shipped to my house free shippings. :) I work for best buy though and klipsch has a great accomidation for us thats how I got such a deal

I'm planning on getting the yamaha 5990 for mine as I can get it for 600 Im mainly looking at it because of the hdmi inputs.

  10. I am looking at the Yamaha hty-5990 receiver. It says it has upconversion to 480p I believe. Now does that mean that it will take any standard definition signal and convert it to 480p, or enhanced definition. If this is so are there any audio receivers that will convert a standard definition to 720p. This may be a dumb, question and I may be looking at it the wrong way, but I was curious about it a I'm think about purchasing this receiver. Thanks in advance.

  11. To put it simply the problem was trying to hook it up to the tv. I told him to try that first cause the receiver is hard to get to, and that I would hook it up through the receiver next time I visited. He managed to get it into a aux port on the back of the receiver and its working fine, it just wouldn't work by itself hooked to the tv. Thanks for everyones help.

  12. He got it working finally by moving it to another input. Anyway to answer your question, I haven't even been at his house to try to get it to work as I live awhile away. I've been trying to help him over the phone. Yes he read the manual that's how he knew about the switch. It just wasn't working in the input on the tv he had it in.
