  1. Summmer reruns......200 channels......nothing on......thank you Mark Knopfler for recording cds fit to hear. Since leaving Dire Straits his solos have been noteworthy.....listened to Shangrila tonight....very good sound.....all 24 bit technology. Have bought everyone of his cds and yet to be dissappointed. Isn't it great when things work out like that. Anyone else completely satisfied with an artist and his body of work?

  2. A good lad indeed Buck.....

Welcome to visit any time Dee.......you too Buck.

Made my movie debut as an extra for a HBO film friday night. A series about a baseball pitcher who becomes a star and then takes a down hill slide. It was filmed at the bb field at UNC-W. My main part was as a participant of a tailgate party. My three lines were all profanity! I have a friend from LA who is a producer and I went out to visit him at the bb field and long story short.....he put me to work. It was interesting watching how movies are made.

Getting back to the topic at hand.....Bluesboy's vintage Sherwood and Fisher amps really make those Fostex sing. He started off with Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Texas Flood" and I was amazed at those tiny speakers. Then Miles Davis "Kind of Blue". A very pleasent listening experience.....EH!!!!

  3. Heard those bad little boys today and they are amazing. The pedestal is hollow half way down and it serves as a port for the bass. Listened to them powered with a vintage tubed Scott integrated amp and found nothing at all to complain about. The bass is surprising for a speaker this size. In a small to medium size room these speakers would be my choice. A single driver speaker with no xover.....gloss black pedestal and Paduak enclosure......very sweet.

  4. The brats I have smoked were done indirectly on the Weber grill so there was probably more heat than doing it in a smoker. Soaked hickory chunks and turn the baffles way down. I am certainly not an expert on brats so maybe someone else with more experience can add something about good smoke rings.

  5. Hey Dee.....those brats are great smoked. I may do beer can chicken sunday and spray them with apple cider as Mark suggested. A friend from California is coming over and I think he wants some of my wifes chuck roast so we may do that as well. Maybe some mashed potatoes with chives and grilled asparagus. My only other plans for sunday is the Sopranos finale at 9:00pm.

Took Kate the black lab to a neat dog wash today. Walk up tub, spray attachment, towels, and mink oil for the coat. What a big improvement......her first bath in a year! She is 14 and her hips are too bad for much vigorous scrubbing. She smells much better.....I asked her if she wanted to go see Ranger and Rider the male yellow labs two houses down......date night[&]

  6. Where are my grill buds.......check in. Anything on the grill this weekend? Boiled 2 lbs. of shrimp in beer and old bay seasoning. I guess thats for dinner. Just went out and bought a $5 powerball ticket so midnight tonight I may be ready to party. I definitely will let you know if I win. Having a couple of Absoluts and tonic and listening to a very good tape from Wardsweb. Yes the reel to reel tape exchange is still going. Good grilling to all.

  7. Nothing exciting here......I drive a 2005 Ford Taurus....a company car. The company pays for upkeep, gas, insurance and I agree to drive it.....about 40,000 miles per year. Our other car is a 2000 Saturn wagon, paid for and in good shape. $0.00 in car expenses for me and minimal for the wife. I kinda of like that.

Rest assured if I win the lottery saturday night.....a porsche is in the future.

  8. Thanks Phil....was having a little Dalmore or I never would have started a birthday wish to a tape deck thread. Its kinda neat to own things over many years that have so much personal history. Sorta like my 35 year old 10 speed bike that I still have. It was actually stolen from my house during a break in in 1984 and I spotted it months later and gave chase. My old McIntosh speakers doing duty as end tables in my music room are circa 1970. So many things now are so disposable and built accordingly.

    Anyway.....thanks for your note.

  9. Don't watch much pro basketball Buck....I think Rasheed Wallace plays for the Pistons...right? Any particular reason you like Detroit?

Just got back from Bluesboy's shop. He is building some single driver (Fostex) speakers and I was curious to see what they look like. He had the spray gun out and put some black paint on the pedestals. The speaker enclosure is Paduak....a very attractive wood. Can't wait to hear them.

Company is coming over to hear some music so I've got the tubes warming and looking for "Sweet Virginia". We will have a snort for you Buck.

  10. Welcome to the forum JC. We need some new blood....this thread was beginning to slow down. Share some of your recipes and favorite things to grill with us. It's raining here today so the babybacks may have to cook in the oven this time.

  11. Thanks Buck. We did record a Stones compilation about a year ago. As you know "Exile" is Bluesboy's favorite r&r album of all times.

We got the remnants of the tropical storm last night and it continues to rain this morning. I guess it may be a good day to stay inside and make another tape.

Hope all is well with you.

    Chuck
