Hi Larry. Good eye! That's my trusty Ariston Audio RD-11s with Micro Seiki tonearm. I think she could stand a tune-up. I've closed up the JBLs and I am listening to some classical FM on them right now. Its a very different sound from my Fortes. It reminds me of when I had a single Electro Voice Regency. Another cool thing is that the JBLs are definitely a pair with left and right speakers.

ALRIGHT! THEY ARE IN THE HOUSE. I HAVEN'T EVEN EATEN YET. I will just get right down to brass tacks here and tell you what kinda nut is in these shells. JBL LE14A Woofers and surprisingly LE20 Tweeters...no horns! The crossover is the LX8. Okay, now I either still have you or I've lost ya. Here's the nice little surpise...these C36s sit atop genuine Herman Miller legs. Im off to eat now [stomach growls]. I DID take photos so I will post some if you are curious.

I have not experienced a more well rounded performer than the Fortes. The Spica's image better but would never survive in my main system. I just wish I had some tube gear to hear these JBLs properly. A good friend of mine said they would almost be a good purchase for the legs alone! I have to take another look at them, I was excited to find that Herman Miller actually made legs for some JBLs.

Well, i stopped by on the way home to take another look, now armed with your worthy advice. They are being held for me and i will probably have them next week after rent is paid. I looked at the back again and it says "energizing transducer" which someone told me is just a fanct word for horn tweeter. I also think I will be able to open these without destroying them. Thanks again and i will keep you all posted. The original Fortes ARE better in my opinion...I wouldnt pass up either but my dad has the II's and I think the bass is a little rounder and less punchy, does that make sense?

Bruce, Mark, and Harry, I will do my best to get these tomorrow and photograph and send my findings if you like. I greatly appreciate your knowledgable replies. Now, of course, the question is do i keep them and replace a current pair or part them out or sell them whole? Im not replacing my Klipsch Fortes...absolutley out of the question, but my secondary and bedroom system are set up with Electro Voice Essquires and Spica TC-50s. I guess im in for a day of AB-ing if things go well.

Amazing. I saw your post and was secretly hoping these were in California or New York so I could smile without cursing and OF COURSE you are here in Illinois, where it seems there are many great tales of the garage treasures. This is right at the top though for sure, and the fact that they were around for most of the sale is unbelievable. Oh! I was just thinking, now that you've got TWO pairs, if you are looking to make some more room in the house, ill buy your old pair off of your for 10 times what you paid I hope this is just the beginning of a summer of great finds for you.

Haha! I know it's blasphemous, but they are an older pair and i thought some of you older fellas might have a worthy opinion of these...i they are from the 1950s-60s. If they were Klipschs they would be here already

Hello! Its been a while since ive checked in over here at the world's greatest forum. Today, in my travels, I ran across a pair of JBL C36 Speakers that appear and sound to be in excellent condition. They are asking $175, would you go for this? I am tempted, however...There is no way to get inside the cabs without destroying the lovely grills, at least. Thanks for reading, I anxiously await responses. Josh

wow! that sounds great. i am here in chicago and thought i might offer some possibly exciting info. at least getting to milwaukee from chicago can be cheaper than a sound design speaker, if you dont mind taking a bus. www.megabus.com has a few routes with few stops but one is milwaukee and others include chicago and indianapolis. now, if you book as soon as they are available (i think 60 days out) you can get a roundtrip free or darn close! if someone else posted about this i apologize, i just didnt feel like checking through 7 pages. josh

wow. Thanks! see...thats why i love this forum. I guess another $50 is not too much too make these speakers sing straight instead of lop-sided like they are now. Now, how easy are the diaphrams to replace? Is this something that most people can do on their own or would it be best to send the tweeters off to someone experienced? Seriously, thanks again.

Greetings! I have been gone a while again and excitedly finally back with Klipsch Fortes. I've been casually listening to them all week and thinking that my memory had sweetened their sound...OF COURSE this was not true. It so happens that I bought this pair and did no realize that one of the tweeters was in trouble. So..I NEED A REPLACEMENT K-75-K. Can anyone help locate one asap or have any suggestions? I am in a stranger place now than not having the speakers at all because they are just sitting staring at me and i cant listen. Please help and thanks for all of your time and expertise. Josh
