  1. i mean the frequency. I assumed that ypoa did that too, but if it doesn't, that is all my fault. I guess i didn't explain myself well enough. If only we were talking computers... From what i have gotten so far, it is just trial and error. The reason i started this post is because when i am watching tv, i like the sound of my tv much better than using my HT. I am not sure on what "timbre matching" is. Is it just making the voices and whatnot sound the same "and good"accross the center, L&R. If so, then that is exactly what i am trying to do. by the way, i have the synergy b-3's and the c-2
  2. the post name basically staes my question. I honestly don't have the greatest ear, nor the audio experience to do everything blindly. My yammie reciever also doesn't have ypoa. I can notice the difference in test tones from my cetner to my mains, but i am not sure how to adjust the center to get the desired sound. I am trying to get them to sound the same, right? I am wondering if there are any guides or manuals or hints about adjusting it. Thanks
  3. Unfortunately my reciever does not have a mic jack. So i figure i would have to do it by ear adn that isn't good news. Unless there is any other way, or any guide to go by on how i should adjust it, becaue as of now going by ear, it would be like looking for a light switch in a pitch black room.
  4. Okay, i think i will just set those 4 settings to normal. I am also wondering about the center channel equalizer. Right now i can definately tell a difference from the center and the front speakers when playing the test tone, but how imperative is it that i get them sounding the same. I am also wondering how exactly to do that, i have the options on my reciever but my ear is not trained enough. Are there any easy ways, or is it just the old try, try, and try again until they match. Thanks
  5. I work at best buy, selling computers, printer, cameras, stuff in that department. Every now and then i venture over into Home Theater, and i can tell you that our setup is not good . 1. The acoustics, we have it out on the floor, not in a specific room. 2. It is all running off an underpowered amp, even underpowered for the b-3's. 3. The system will not let you put out that much power. Not sure if it is the extremely low quality cable, or what. You can crank the f-3's to +10 and it will be loud, but definately not hurting your ears. 4. People mess wiht all the settings, by the end of the day the reciever has bass turned all the way up. If it is set to 6-channel stereo, 5.1 or 6.1, music or movies etc.. is anybody's guess.
  6. it is a yamaha HTR-5840. I will look for a link to the manual, but am very doubtful i will find one. I have to go to work in a second here, so i will try to give some more information tomorrow.
  7. I just have two questions. On my reciever there are two options i am not sure about. The first is "D. Range hp and D. range sp." The second is "LFE-hp and LFE-sp" I have no idea what hp(high pass maybe?) and sp mean. I am also wondering what I would benefit from changing these settings. any help would be great. thanks
  8. I just bought the klipsch synergy 12inch and am having some trouble with blending. I have the b-3 setup and it doesn't seem to blend well. I moved it out of the corner and turned the gain down to a little over 1/4 and it isn't nearly as boomy anymore. The crossover is set to 80hz, which brings up my first question. What is the difference between the LFE and the crossover, i know what the crossover is and am having trouble finding out about the LFE. I also have 2 settings on my reciever i am wondering about. The D. Range---sp and hp levels, i have no idea what that means, i am assuing the D is for dynamic but i have not heard a good explanation of that yet. The other is the LFE level---hp and sp. I don't know what the hp and sp means but the default on my reciever was MAX for all 4 of the previously mentioned settings. I would greatly appretiate any help as i just spent what is alot for my budget on all this an really want it to work well. Thanks alot
  9. My synergy 12 sub comes on friday and i am wondering what all i need to do to set it up. I have already read to set the crossover on the subwoofer all the way up and use the crossover on the reciever, which i have at 80hz. I am wondering about the phase setting though, i know it is used to make your speakers blend and also something about where i am sitting relative to the subwoofer. Also, do i just set the gain on the subwoofer at what sounds best to me and leave it at that, or is the gain gonna be something i want to adjust going from movie to music and back, granted i am not an audiophile and have nothing near golden ears. I just don't want to end up in a situation where i have a few settings totally wrong so that my system doesn't work near its potential. thanks
  10. on a number of products, but i am told klipsch is the best so i went with them
  11. i get a discount in buying them and can legally sell them at whatever price after 1 year. That is was i plan to do and then upgrade, but who knows maybe i will just become to attached to them in a year.
  12. I am just wondering what a fair asking price would be for some speakers. the synergy b-3 setup, the normail prices from best buy are as follows: a pair of b-3's---$329.98 a c-2--- $254.99 a pair of s-2's---$404.98 the 12 inch sub.--- $509.99 Each one of them would be one year old at the selling time, in good condition. No dings or anything, just normal use. thanks

    HT noob

thanks, will do. I also have 2 more quick questions. One, what is the "phase setting" Two, My reciever puts out, well, atleast is rated at 100Wx6ch. I am just wondering how everything will translate going from that reciever to a sub woofer that can do 300W continuous.
  14. i had them set to large when that happened, but i changed them to small now. Since it only happened once, do you think it damged my speakers?

    HT noob

I have a yamaha HTR5840 reciever and am purchasing a synergy 12 inch sub. I am wondering if i can just plug it into recievers "sub woofer" jack and be good to go. Or will i have to mess with the cross over frequency or anything. I am also planning on placing it close to, but not completely in a corner, will there be any negative effects to that?
  16. I swear i just posted this, but don't see it. So maybe I did something wrong. In a nutshell i was going to say thanks for the help so far. I have 2 more questions. I am wondering what soud level meter to get, since i can't find one on BB.com i looked at redio shack, like was suggested. I found 2 of them. Which one would be best? and should i use a tripod? http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032222&cp=2032057.2032187.2032193 Also i am wondering about a "popping" sound. Right when i got everything hooked up i put in episode 1 and went to the podracing scene. I cranked the system, and eventually heard a popping sound from my left b-3. so i turned it down significantly. I figured i could crank my system and not worry about damaging anything because the sales men at Best Buy, my co-workers, told me i wouldn't have to worry about damaging my speakers because my reciever would go into "protective" mode. I watched xmen later and didn't notice any distortion or anything, so i think evrything is fine. I looked this up on the internet briefley and found an article telling me it was something to do with my "form or former" and a rod that was smacking against it or something? I was wondering what exactly happened, and if it was very bad for the speakers? thanks
  17. I am brand new to this forum, and home theater thing so i hope i am not asking anything to ridiculous. I have just bought a synergy klipsch system. I get a discount on the series so i couldn't help but buy them. I am not an audiophile by any means, but definately want to learn. I am gonna be a poor college student next year, and want my speakers to last for a long time. I basically want to know what i can do to make sure my speakers don't blow, or i don't damage the former from to much bass or something. I am also not sure how loud i can turn up the reciever before damaging the speakers, or what crossover frequency i should have it set at. I bought b-3 pair c-2 s-2 pair yamaha HTR_5840 reciever and am waiting until my next paycheck to get the 12 or 10 inch sub, i don't know which one to get. If there are any guides or anything specific with my speakers i would greatly appreciate some help because i can't afford to ruin my speakers. Thanks[]
