  1. 1) i think it's written pretty clearly under Mike's icon and name that he is from Montreal, Quebec, CANADA...

    2) the weight thing didn't make sense

    3) i have 5 buttons on my viewsonic, the controls are very good and as you said it's your OPINION that the controls are better on the Saony, so not point there.

    4) high resolution is important, I play games in 1600x1200 (just had to bring that up)

    5) the energy star compliance would only be a big argument for ecologists, and ecologists (real ones) would probably not start talking about Dodge and Ford (if they're extreme enough to care about maybe half a watt less consumption per month, and i know i may be off, but not by much probbly) Besides, we live in Canada where the power is plentiful (we even export it) so it doesn't make a difference what Energy Star compliance crap we use with our monitors. if we were really concerned about power saving, there'd be no orange light when the screen is in suspend mode...

    6) the energy star thing does not necessarily make sense. for example the country with the lowest emission standards for cars could very well have a car manufacturer deciding that his emission standards follow some kind of international criteria and he'd seemingly have an advantage over his competitors not clever enough to use the trick... i don't think the difference is much between the two screens. what are we after here, performance or saving power? we surely wouldn't be overclocking and using water coolant and hundreds of supa fast fans in our computers... hell, we probbly wouldn't use a computer and use recycled paper!! do you know how much it pollutes when you produce something made out of metal, like, say, a computer case? or a monitor? it's more costly to the environment to actually manufacture the screen than to use it for it's lifetime.

  2. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!

    This is AMAZING!!!

    so many wasted hours...

    such genius wasted for what?

"All your base are belong to us"

It's amazing what the Internet makes possible.

    LOL

this is one of the unexplainably funniest things on the internet. actually we could start a thread like that, what is the funniesy ongoing Internet joke?

  3. i agree with mike, huge companies like sony are arranged in departments, and each department has access to the HUGE sony resources. they have all the tools they need to develop a technology better than their competitors.

on the other hand, they have to show a profit and that's the most important part, so they're under a lot of pressure and sometimes can cut corners which often disadvantages the consumer.

but for technology development, I don't think Sony is buy any means behind anyone in terms of potential.

  4. OK, just to get back to the original subject before Mike replies once again:

DO NOT trust computer hardware sites for reviews of speakers, unless they have built a strong credibility for themselves. These guys often don't know jack sh*t about sound, and don't have critical listening skills or well-developped ears. Of course, that could actually give them credibility and trustworthiness IF YOU ARE LIKE THEM. Alas, the simple fact that you looked long and hard enough to end up on this board shows that you care more about sound than they do, probably.

For God's sakes, the second article you posted states that the DTT2500 from CS is a "killer system" and that it's an "excellent pick for gamers and moviegoers"... COME THE HELL ON!!! This speakers system has a lot of gimmicks, but it's crap. First, to be able to enjoy 5.1 sound on this system, you need to buy the ultra expensive Soundblaster live! Platinum from... Creative, partner of Cambridge Soundworks in the marketing of the speakers!!! Second, the sound JUST SUCKS on those speakers. I know, I listened to them. It's crap. Really. So any review site that says anything else than "lots of gimmicks, possibility of 5.1, small size of speakers" as advantages of the DTT2500 just lost all credibility in my opinion. So I wouldn't tend to believe them for any of the other reviews either, or for their conclusion for that matter.

Now let me state clearly that I am not trying to defend the pros here. I don't know how the Midiland sounds, I've never heard it. The specs seem pretty clear, although they are often misleading. The only thing I wanted to say is trust sources like 3dsoundsurge or regular audio sites, or even some computer sites that actually know what they are talking about and really care about sound. But don't trust the others, as a general rule. I even had a local computer paper rate the DTT2500 as a clear winner over the promedias... I wrote to them, never got an answer. Wrote again, still no answer.

Here, I'll leave the soapbox to someone else.

  5. hey janko, i have a question...

i can get the Senn HD575 for the same price as the Grado SR-80.

    which should i go with?

i like my music to have a lot of deep bass, but without overpowering the rest of the music (i can get all the bass i want from my paradigm sub, the emphasis here is on all around sound quality)
