I understand tough. Not everybody is willing to give up creature comfort for performance. Everybody finds driving enjoyment wherever they like!

Still... a Passat ain't no WRX, although that car looks NICE with those (I'm guessing they're optional) big rims and low-profile tires... Post some pictures when you end up getting it!

  2. fini, HornEd is a maverick.

only listen to him if you're serious, or plan on becoming serious about digital photography. if you only want a nice point-and-shoot camera to make quick shots of the family, system, and such, save yourself a bundle and go with a 2MP camera.

if, however, you want to get into, or don't know, but may want to get into, photography as a hobby, passion, art, or whatever, then by all means, shop around some more, and get a 4MP camera, but one with a good lens, nice features, and a good macro and zoom.

I have a 2.1MP camera. Although I would like to get into photography as a hobby, I know I don't have the time to do so. Therefore, I only use the digicam to make pictures of my system, birthdays, cars, and the like. I would not need more than 2.1MP.

On the other hand, if I had a 4MP camera, then I think i'd have to find more time in my days, because photography is so damn fun. I realized that after playing around with the nicer cameras we sell at work.

You are into audio, that's why you bought Klipsch. But think about it, if you had only wanted something to play some tunes in the background, you would probably have gotten something much more affordable, less cumbersome, and not as good-sounding.

To each his hobby, you have to support them by saving in other places. For example, I don't give a rat's *** about shoes because I don't run anymore. Therefore, I just pick up a relatively inexpensive pair of Nikes, they last me for a couple years, and then I replace them with something equally inexpensive. I would totally understand if someone who was into running would spend the extra bucks for some New Balance or whatever the high-end shoes are these days.

  3. www.dpreview.com

the new Panasonic Lumix looks pretty promising, especially after a firmware upgrade that may take care of some of the weird loss of quality in compression.

personally, I am very impressed with the Casio QV4000

the Canon G2 wil be more expensive, but it is kind of a reference in its class

I like the Olympus design, however I am not impressed by the quality of their pictures after a few early tests.

The 995 is a good camera, nothing out of the ordinary imo.

Can't comment on the Fujis, we don't carry them at work.

it's too bad you can't come to my kiosk, we have all our digicams set up and connected to a computer so you can directly compare the picture quality. all stores should have that IMO.

Trust me, it really doesn't take too long, with a good teacher it's obviously much faster.

When I learned to drive, I only needed one hour-long session with my driving teacher to master the basics, the next one we went city-driving right away. Which obviously scared the crap outta me, but I ended up doing not too badly.

You get over the crunching gear stage very fast, it's getting used to the clutch and how to work it simultaneously and use it progressively that takes more time. Actually, you could learn in the WRX without damaging it too much, but it would be very frustrating.

I was so unused to the car's clutch and feel that I was very disappointed the first time I drove it. The second time... pure exhilaration!

Good luck with the purchase, and I hope you get it in blue! Can't go wrong with that car really.

  5. Definitely try to learn to stick shift before driving the Sube, the little problems with the harsh gearbox I mentioned are compounded with a stick learner. But don't worry about driving a stick perfectly before getting the car, because going from knowing how to drive with a manual transmission and knowing how to drive effortlessly, smoothly, and efficiently with a manual transmission is mostly getting used to the particular car's transmission. It took me maybe an hour or two to get used to the Sube's transmission. But I'm still not used to my grandma's auto transmission, it sucks so much...

I'd say you only need a couple hours practice with another standard car before getting into your brand-new subaru. That's if you can drive, some people are just hopeless at this, and it's okay, but judging from your comments, you like to drive.

Do not order it with special accessories except maybe the fog lights and the rear wing (unless you thin you'll want to change it later on).

For the wheels, go to this adress:

    http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_garage/WheelSearch.jsp?autoMak e=Subaru&autoModel=Impreza+WRX+Sedan&autoYear=2002

and choose the wheels you want, chances are they will cost you much less than $3,000.

From what I can gather (I'm no mechanic and I'm actually pretty clueless about that stuff), the turbo lag can't altogether be fixed. However, there is a little plug that you can remove (it's there only to reduce noise) that will increase its effectiveness. Apart from that, people tell me it's real important to balance the upgrades between the three important parts of the car: intake, exhaust, and ECU (the computer chip that regulates the engine). By changing the air filter, upgrading to a more efficient ECU or having the existing one reprogrammed to make better use of the turbo, and upgrading the entire exhaust system, you can make huge performance gains, although they will come at the cost of some fuel efficiency.

Replacing the wheels and tires is a must IMO, and I would also change the muffler, for that unmistakeable low growling sound. After all, we're all sound nuts here, aren't we? the rest is up to you, depending on whether you're looking for real performance or just a fun daily driver. I like the Prodrive P7 wheels, they are not too expensive at $260x4 = $1040, and good if you're not looking for much bigger wheels. don't forget to factor in the cost of the better bigger tires as well!

  6. learning the standard on the Sube will be a steep learning curve, I recommend you try and practice on another car so you don't hurt your baby. automatic simply isn't an option, though. no you don't have any other car to consider in the Subaru lineup, the WRX is THE one to have. or the WRX wagon, if you need the extra hauling capacity. don't forget to look into aftermarket parts, it will really kick the performance up a notch.

  7. from the review I read, it is very powerful, and can shake the house with ease.

however, it lacks in tightness and musicality. this is a sub better suited for nightclub or theater use than home theater. I'll take the SVS thank you! Plus, it's very expensive.

Well I know what you mean, and I agree completely and totally with you, boa! Not everybody agrees, though, and I'm having a hard time convincing one of my buddies to get a sub before getting new speakers...
