  1. But just think after this life and you get to heaven you will be able to lead many different lives for trillions of years. Frankly it scares me to death.

Given the lack of any evidence for such a place I wouldn't worry myself over it.

  2. I'm seeing a bunch of people talking about how good reel to reel sounds and am wondering just how good it sounds.

What is the passion with it,and why bother with it? Is it that much better than records? Or is it just the new fad?

Even if it is that much better, how do you go about copying records onto it? Don't you wind up losing SQ copying from the source?

Yes, it really does sound that good. I have pre-recorded tapes going back to the mid fifties, but mostly from the 60's and 70's some of them are extremely good, others not so much. The best of them are as good as any other media you could compare them to.
  3. In many ways, the NRA is the problem, not the solution.

The NRA is just a lobbying front for the arms industry. So, nothing much has to be said there. Arms makers want to make and sell more arms. They give NRA a pile of money, which NRA uses to bribe Congresspeople. Nothing important to be said. Our entire system is based on this formalized bribery. Congresspeople are not complicated. They want to stay in office because it's the greatest job in the world. It takes money to stay in, so whomever has the money is a friend to the congressperson. We need to get much deeper than that to understand our gun obsession.

We get what we want, so why is it we want this? It obviously creates a massive benefit somewhere, right?

It does create a massive benefit.  A small number of rich people get massively richer, at the cost of the lives of the people they claim to be helping.

    Yup...It's a clever system...not fair..but clever.
  4. So!! Therein lies the problem...."that other countries have guns and they get along fine".....So what's your solution?

I never proposed a solution, am only pointing out that there's a bigger problem than the availability of guns. Blaming our forefathers on this is silliness.

1...I know you didn't, but I was simply asking for your solution.

2...Yes, now all we need is someone to point out what the problem is...not what it isn't.

3... I wasn't blaming our forefathers, but blaming those who interpret what they wrote or intended.

  5. Would it be treacherous or un-patriotic for me to suggest that the founding fathers are to blame for this shit? People hold the constitution up like it is a holy book....either of which were written by men, who are fallible....But no, I don't think so, I think the problem lies in the way people like to interpret it, another similarity with holy books....No consensus will ever be reached. It's funny how people will yell and scream "It's in the constitution" when it suits their argument...But will say "F### the constitution" when it's held up as an argument against them.

If you're talking about the 2nd amendment, I don't agree with this if no other reason than the fact that other countries have guns and they get along just fine.  Everybody tends to look at places where cool guns are banned when talking about other countries, such as England and Australia, but consider the UAE.  There's guns everywhere at least among nationals.  Kids are brought up using them, full auto AK-47's are common.  And, they have the lowest violent crime in the world.  No, really.

So!! Therein lies the problem...."that other countries have guns and they get along fine".....So what's your solution?

  7. The bottom end really improves with a stout amp so be sure if you go the receiver route, find one that has a good amplification section.  You could also use the receivers pre-outs and run a separate amp if necessary.

I totally agree with this....Mine never sounded so good as when they were paired with a quality amplifier...I run mine also as a stereo rig using Luxman seperates and 100+ watts, for Home Theatre I use a Harman Kardon  AVR3600 receiver, while I found this receiver to be the best of anything I auditioned, it can't hold a candle to the Luxman for sound quality, the improvement is very apparent, especially in the low end.

  8. The title of the thread is "you get what you want in society"

Here is what I believe to be some out of the gun debate issues that causes our rampant gun problem.

    1) problem: wealth inequality has parents working multiple jobs to keep their family unit afloat

Cause: Families are not together as much, less parental supervision and bonding and raising children

    2) problem: education system bogs kids down with homework and the mindset that more work equates to smarter kids

Cause: kids are stressed with more homework than ever, more activities like sports, dance, band, tutoring, and anything and everything to build their resume to get into college, instead of learning. This puts huge stress on kids, and they don't have time to play and learn to problem solve on their own, or build relationship skills.

    3) problem: Technology. Facebook, Twitter, iPads, video games

Cause: kids have their faces stuck in a screen and have no relationship skills, they either are part of the club or are an outcast. And then the outcasts are pointed out with all the social media...

I think this society we've created is causing mental health issues that coupled with the easy access to human killing tools -- lets be honest, that's what guns are designed for - turns into rampant murders... Whether in a school, or on the streets.

Just an idea as to something other than guns being the only issue.

Still don't like guns, but I respect the 2nd amendment right to own a firearm. But it's the only amendment that has the phrase "well regulated"

Don't these things also exist in other countries?

  9. Well, apparently, neither of you decided to look at my link to the article and chart demonstrating that Switzerland, Norway and Finland had higher per capita rates of mass murders.

Here it is again for convenience:  http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/jun/22/barack-obama/barack-obama-correct-mass-killings-dont-happen-oth/

Try looking at those figures in a different way....Unbelievable that someone would try to skew a favorable view from that....:(

  10. I was lucky enough to see Hendrix as a kid in the UK, he played the Civic Hall in Grays, Essex on February 14th 1967. My sister has Hendrix, Mitchell and Reddings autograph signed together and also a machine head off of the guitar he smashed and also set alight. It was a night to remember as a 16 year old.

  11. Went to a yard sale just because it was just around the corner from me. This was in the free box because the remote was lost. I took it, I thought to myself it's free, what have I got to lose, and I need a new player on my deck? Turns out it's quite a good find....post-18926-0-18580000-1434926484_thumb.j

  12. C'mon Dave what did you expect, there are enough things being foisted upon us, and taking away from our freedoms...And here you are trying to gauge support for yet another thing to take responsibility away from the individual. Look it's pretty tough on the suicyclist who gets killed, but life itself is dangerous, where would you stop this insanity? Heck man I wouldn't want to bring up a kid in the kind of world that it seems you would like. If this seems like an over-simplification to you then stop thinking so darn hard, buy a motorcycle and enjoy the breeze and the freedom.
