Shelf space depends on how tightly packed your records are. Mine are about 77 LPs per linear foot. A record and its cover together will weigh approximately half a pound.
2000 LPs = 26 feet of shelf space = 1000 lbs
In my former career I was promoting Records, as well as being a Music Director for several radio stations and handling some 15 different labels of product, with all sorts of genre. I would inevitabily wind up with an extra copy out of 25 or so they would send every day from the major labels. Not to mention, my own special interests that I would tend to collect. I can claim no favorite, because I listen to everything from Frank Sinatra to Butthole Surfers and everything in between. I did cut down my collection from nearly 30,000 to just under 15,000 but the main thing I always did was stack them in alphabetical order in rows on their sides because shelves were just way too fragile "bowed" under the stress and after having them up and down the hall ways and the listening room, I tore the shelves out one day and returned back to my old ways. Thank God my floor supported the weight just fine![][][] FRED
