  1. I like the metal cones (copper reference line) because to me the sound is more dispersed/wider sound from the metal cones. The Reference line is built with upgraded materials.

The F3 are impressive sounding and good value. The cones are made from good fiber plastics.

  2. If you can, it's best to try and find what your ears will prefer. Klipsch makes some very good speakers in all their line offerings. The Rotel RB1090 is a fine amp. In the Portland, Oregon area:

Home Video Library is a Klipsch dealer and very good place and people to deal with.

The Good Guys/CompUSA also a Klipsch dealer (near Airport Store)

Chelsea Audio Video is a Rotel dealer with the RB1090 in demo room. Ford (the Son) is a great guy to work with and talk to.

  3. I would suspect the Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card before the Marantz or SF-1. My Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card had some type of failure starting and started to change the sound unpleasant. Marantz has a warm sounding signature sound so I doubt that would be coming from it. I have a Marantz that is almost 25 years old and it still sounds great. Good Luck problem solving, hope you get it resolved!
