  1. Hello Mr. Songer, I know that you are the Thorens expert in these here parts and I would like to ask your opinion on the TD 135. I know it's an Idler wheel like you 124 and I was wondering if it was comparable to yours. Also, what would be a reasonable price for one in very good/excellent shape? Thank You Coltrane
  2. Good Evening, I personally own and use a Shanling STP-80 Integrated tube amp. It's made in China. I have been very happy with it for almost two years without any problems. Yes there are some poorly made Chinese amps out there but there also poorly made American, British and European ones as well. I usually find that there are some very xenophobic attitudes in the HiFi world. People should not forget that most of the Reference and Synergy lines of Klipsch are manufactured in China. I have my amp hooked up to a pair of Heresy's and previously to my RF 35's. Sure it's not the best amp available but it allowed me to enter the world of tubes at a reasonable price. I can definitely tell you that now that I'm here I will not be going back to SS. Will my next amp be Chinese? Maybe. I will definitely upgrade to a higher quality one, if that happens to be made in China I'm fine with that. Don't listen to other people's opinions when they have never had personal experience with a certain piece of equipment. Try it out and decide for yourself. Good Luck Coltrane
  3. Good Evening, Colterphoto go see this show!! I was at the Toronto show this summer and it has to be one of the best I have ever been to. I had the opportunity to see Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio but Napoleon was called away on a family emergency unfortunately. The backing band that dweezil is touring with is just phenomenal especially the drummer who really sounds like Frank himself ( haunting). I cannot recommend this show enough, you should definitely treat yourself. Enjoy Delano
  4. Thanks everybody for the responses. Scott: You are not the first to recommend the Goldring for my table but now that I heard it from an honest source on this forum it looks like a winner. I am probably going to go for the 1012 and see what happens. I will make sure to report back with my findings. Thanks again to everyone Delano
  5. Good evening, Can some of you TT experts on the forum suggest a couple of differen't carts. at differen't levels for my Thorens TD145mkII with the stock tp arm. I am currently using an Ortofon OM 5e which is pretty low end and still sounds pretty good. I know that a cartridge upgrade would definitely make me love the vinyl even that much more. I am using Graham Slee Phono pre amp if that makes a difference. Thanks Delano
  6. Good day all, I have to say that I became hooked on vinyl about a year ago. At the time I had around 1500 cd's and I happened to find a great deal on an old vintage Thorens table. I figured what the heck, I'll grab the table and hit a good used record store and see what happens. 2,000 records later I am here for the long haul. I am left with only about 250 cd's as I have sold most of them and purchased vinyl. I completely agree with the above statement that it is much more involving and attention grabbing. Cd's were always in the background but now I sit and focus with vinyl. I am a huge jazz freak and I can't describe the difference vinyl makes when listening to coltrane or dexter on a record. I love the sound of my tubes+klipsch+vinyl!!!! Delano
  7. I am in the same boat. I bought a nice used Thorens table on a whim and a good price. I started of with about 50 records and 8 months later I have about 1700. I sold off many of my cds (Istill have about 700) and find that I am listening to mostly vinyl these days. I find it much warmer and non fatigueing. I have a tubed cd player and tube amp which helps with the digital stuff but it lacks the warmth of vinyl. my 2 cents. Coltrane
  8. Here they are:http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/30141-wright_sound_2a3_mono_amps. Up for sale after all of that. I thought you were in a hurry to get them back and enjoy them? I don't want to jump on the bashing band wagon here but as a third paerty looking at this from the outside WOW. First you insult him and then you ask if you should sell the amps when you get them back. I read tis in shock thanking my lucky stars that I am not in customer service/care. Coltrane
