  1. Forget about the HD 500/1000 and just piece together a system. The HD series probably will not have output to wow you. Would you be opposed to building a DIY sub? You could build a sealed box with a Dayton driver that will save you a little money and have more lower end output that subwoofers in the price range. Looking at ebay real quick I found you a pair of RF-52s for 575 shipped. Rc-52 for 249 shipped. RB-51s for surrounds for 299 shipped.Also found a Yamaha Rx-v659 for 329 shipped. That would put you at 1452 total minus a subwoofer. If you want an assembled sub I could downsize a little bit but that is one hell of a theater for 1450 and 5 leagues out of the HD 1000.

  2. Hey Tim, sounds like a pretty cool setup but putting the subwoofer in the center cabinet would probably not be such a great idea. I'm not so sure about mixing reference with heritage, aside from looking odd, from what I hear on these boards they just have a different sound and tend not to mesh so well together but that is completely subjective. What would you be willing to spend? What I would do If I were you is just move the heresys to another room with those amps for a very nice stereo listening setup. Reciever would definitely be the way to go in my opinion, it would be a much simpler, cleaner, modern looking setup and the sound quality these days from some is very good. Where are you located? I've been looking for someone that could build me a nice subwoofer enclosure and I have a rt-10d I'd be willing to trade you for the box and some cash. A setup with RB-61 (maybe floorstanders) for mains with a rc-52 center and rs-42 surrounds and the rt-10d would be a very nice theater indeed.

  3. Thanks Wuzzer it's going to be hard to find a RC-7 for a price I can afford. I just turned 21 and a lot of my money goes towards rent and bills. I'm never going to be watching movies at very high SPL since I live in a condo so maybe I should give the RC-3 an audtion? My biggest problem is watching a movie late at night and having to turn up my mains to hear some of the dialogue which can lead to some problems as movie tracks arent always the same volume. Next thing I know there's an explosion and my roommates wake up [:|]. Anyone here have Rf-5s with an rc-3? I'd love to get some opinions.

  4. Ok, so I've finally figured out winisd and i don't need an 11.5 cubic foot enclosure. I've decided on something between 8 and 6 for the best balance of size, extension and output. Now my problem is deciding if I want a cube or somethnig more in the dimensions of a cornwall. Seems like the cornwall shape would be better as I could use height instead of sacrificing floor space. Box construction is the thing that has me confused though. Should I use 2 sheets of mdf for the front baffle for better support? The woofer is only something like 20 pounds and it seems like it would be hard to mount it flush. Also, aside from the challenge of bracing it, that takes from the internal volume so I'm wondering if I could do something like use a couple 1" x .75" pieces to connect opposite sides of the box (front panel to back, side to side etc..) of the box? Should I line the interior of the bo with accoustic stuff? Someone please help.

  5. It really comes down to your budget. You could piece together a system for around $1000 that would be much nicer than the HD 1000. A system with RB-51s for mains with a rc-52, maybe KG .5s for surrounds and a assembled dayton subwoofer with a used reciever would be pretty close in price while having cleaner, better sound and more output with the beautiful look of the reference line.

  6. I own some KG .5s for my computer setup and while they are good you would absolutely need a subwoofer with them. If I were you I'd look into some nice reference bookshelfs to put next to the tv. I love my RF-5s so I would imagine the Rb-5s would be a good bet. They should put out a good bit of bass down into the 30s and definitely should appeal to the wife more than the KG series. I havent heard the new reference line but something like the rb-61 or rb-81 should also fit the bill nicely. Good luck

  7. Hi there. From what I've gathered reading the forums over the years you should be able to use your heresys as mains for a HT and use the older klipsch speakers to match the sound pretty well. Lots of people here with a heritage HT like to use the academy center but those are typically not easy to find and can be around 400 dollars. I would think the KLF or KG series would be a pretty good match for the heritage line but i've never heard them together, perhaps someone here could elaborate on that subject. If you're on a budget, I've read people saying the sub12 is a good match for their heritage HTs. However, if you do have woodworking skill and tools you could construct your own subwoofer for a little less with more output and awesome low end bass (something like a Dayton 390 HF like I have). For your budget of $1200 I think you would be better off keeping your heresys for mains and building the system around that. As far as recievers go Denon, Harman Kardon, Marantz, Yamaha and some Pioneer elites are the norm around here. I own a Yamaha and I think dollar-for-dollar it is the best buy. The Yamaha RX-V465 is a 5.1 reciever with a $379 list (i'd go 7.1 if you wanted to get more speakers in the future but I think a good 5.1 is all you need). It has a clean 105wpc and has all the goods like Hdmi etc. Hope this was helpfull. Welcome to the forum

  8. I'm looking complete my rf-5/rt-10d 2.1 setup to 5.1 surround. My question is why are the rc-35s going for so cheap? I'd really like to get a rc-7 but those are hard to come by and have a big price tag to match. Does the rc-35 not use the same drivers used in the new reference line? All responses are appreciated. Thanks

  9. So i've entered the sub's specifications into winisd and it's telling me that with a 11.365 cubic foot ported enclosure it would be flat from 1000 hertz down to 20 hertz.Down 1db at 19, 2.5db at 17, down 3.5 at 16, down 5db at 15 and down 10db at 13 hertz.Those seem like very good numbers and I'm sure i've entered everything correctly. The outside dimensions of the enclosure it recomends are: 28.85 x 45.26 x 17.91. Those are very odd numbers, I've found that an enclosure with dimensions of 28.5 x 28.5 x 28.5 would have the internal volume of just .025 cubic feet more. My question is would it sound the same as the recomended enclosure or did it give me the odd numbers for a reason? I've never built a sub box and i'm wondering would 3/4" mdf do the job? Would I have to brace a big ported enclosure like this? I ran the figures with a sealed box and although it would be considerably smaller it seems i'd lose a good deal of very low bass for movies and some output. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

  10. I bought this subwoofer about two years ago and tried it in my car and it was not a very good fit so i'm going to give it a try in HT. I've tried messing with a few enclosure calculators but it seems the specs don't have all the values for the fields? Anyway, i'm not sure if I should go ported or sealed but I do have an idea of what I would like it to be like. As close to flat to 20hz or lower with good output and a smooth response curve from 20 to about 80. If anyone could please help me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Specs are as follows:

    Specifications:
    * Power handling: 500 watts RMS/800 watts max * VCdia: 2-1/2" * Le:
    1.00 mH * Impedance: 4 ohms * Re: 3.3 ohms * Frequency range: 18 - 800
    Hz * Fs: 18 Hz * Magnet weight: 150 oz. * SPL: 90 dB 2.83 V/1m, 87 dB
    1W/1m * Vas: 9.95 cu. ft. * Qms: 3.10 * Qes: .49 * Qts: .42 * Xmax:
    14mm * Dimensions: A: 15-5/16", B: 14-1/8", C: 6-1/8".

  11. If you want to stay with klipsch I'd recomend trying a rt-10d. You can get them for around 600-700. I bought one for 620 to use with my RF-5s and the SQ is very nice but the output could be slightly higher. It will keep up pretty decently with the RF-5s going at 120wpc.

  12. I'm thinking about trading my RT-10d for a DIY RSW-15 and some cash. It has the RSW-15 active driver in a Dayton 15" box with 2.5 cu. ft.(has a cross brace in the middle, 3/4inch mdf) and the dayton 500w plate amp. It does not have the passive radiator but the guy says it plays deep and sounds nice and I'm willing to bet it does. I won't be able to listen to it for a week and a half though. Thoughts on this please.

  13. That games was really tough as a cleveland fan. First half was good but second half was very stagnant on offense. Delonte and Mo did not play like they should have as cost us the game. I've been thinking if the Cavs take the first game they're going to win it in 5 but with Orlando taking the first I see it going to 6 or 7 and Orlando has decent shot to win the series. What a let down.
