  1. Update: There's been a change in my speaker plan. Instead of the RB-5's and RC-3, I'll be using Heresey II's. Don't know if this would alter your subwoofer recommendation? Ross
  2. Josh, YES! You can set it up with custom pages for each, and every, room/system in your home. You can even put in a floorplan of your home and set it up so that pressing on a room takes you to the control pages for that room... very cool, indeed! A Pronto is about the size of a Mindspring organizer, but thicker (like two stacked). Ross
  3. Doug, Spoken like a true Pronto convert! Welcome to the bandwagon Ross
  4. I find a huge improvement in sound quality when my RB-5's are toed inwards toward me. This past weekend, I took a friend to our local dealer so he could hear some RF-3's. They didn't have the speakers toed in at all and the sound was disappointing. Turning those towers inward made them sing. Ross
  5. Mr. V, Having done a bit more research, and reading some posts at AVSForum, it looks like one (or maybe I should say, two) of your SVS subs is the best route to take. No need for me to try to reinvent the wheel and maybe end up with something mediocre. Being familiar with my Klipsch speakers, and taking into account the room arrangement I described, which SVS setup would you recommend? I have a B&K ST140 amp I could use, if it's a decent candidate, but I think it's not renowned for it's low end punch. I'm open to either the PC series or buying another amp. My Denon only has an 80hz crossover option, so not much adjustment there. Is that a problem for an external amp sub? Guide me, oh bass master... Ross
  6. TV, Thanks for the reply! Like I said, I'd asked this in the Architectural forum but it seems almost nobody goes in there... My HT room will be a converted single-car garage. Concrete floor (carpeted) with insulated double-studded walls (6-inch plates and headers with offset 2X4 walls) and a floating insulated ceiling. The room dimensions will be approx. 11' wide by 20-22 long, with a ceiling height of about 8 feet. I'll have a raised platform of a yet-to-be-determined size. I'm not by any means locked into using that space for a sub - it seemed like an empty volume just begging to be utilized. I'm certainly open to corner placement, or any other suggestions you have. As far as volume levels I require, I haven't a clue! I'm not advanced enough to know what I need. I'lll be using my Denon AVR-5800 with RB-5's in front, RC-3 in the center, and four RS-3's for side and back surrounds. I have a KSW-12 right now, but I don't think it will keep up with the other speakers and I'm open to suggestions for either "off the shelf" subwoofers or DIY. Thanks so much, Ross
  7. Okay, so the $1000 figure was wishful thinking! One can always hope... Ross
  8. TV and others, I'm going to be building a dedicated HT room and I have the opportunity to create a large enclosure for a built-in subwoofer in the raised platform. Being pretty handy with tools and woodworking, I think I could build a quality sub. Is there a practical design for a sub that would perform better than a reasonably-priced commercial product in this setup? The new RSW-15 sounds like it has great potential at a reasonable ($1,000??) price. Can I better this? (I'd posted this question a few weeks ago in the architectural and this forum, but didn't get any input) Ross
  9. Dear Itchy, Take a look at these older threads on universal remote controls: http://www.klipsch.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000704.html http://www.klipsch.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001218.html Ross
  10. Steve, Thanks for the link. I've been to their site before, but have never seen that in-floor subwoofer. It looks like it has definite potential, but to be honest I was thinking bigger. Give me more, more, more! I would think that with the ample volume of space I'd have available, I could use a couple of their "Titanic" subwoofer drivers in a properly designed platform-cabinet and get some REAL low-end response. Am I dreaming? Ross
  11. I posted the following in the Powered Subwoofers forum, but didn't get any response. Maybe, since I'm talking mostly about HT and not about a powered Klipsch sub, this belongs here instead? Here goes... Here's an idea I've had, and I found nothing in searches to help me out. Maybe somebody's thought this through before me and can offer some suggestions? In my upcoming home theater room, I'll have a raised platform for the second tier seats. Would it be feasible to build a good-performing subwoofer into this base? I'm not looking to recess my existing sub/s here. What I'm thinking of is a bass horn or folded bass tube custom built into the platform. Figuring on a platform about 11 feet by 8-9 feet, and about 11" thick. Is this practical? Has anyone seen plans for something like this? Hmmmm.... curious. Ross
  12. Oh no, it's catching! I went to the city's equipment repair shop and the motorcycle mechanic was singing "Who let the dogs out..." This has GOT to stop!! Ross
  13. You guys are making me nauseous! When I read the thread title, I immediately thought of my 8-year-old's recent favorites. I'm soooo sick of "I have a blue house with a blue window, bah bah blue..." and (more recently) "who let the dogs out." That one's actually sort of catchy, although I don't know the rest of the lyrics - if there are any! The thing that makes that one so scary is that I find myself singing it at work and it's contagious. Just picture a motorcycle officer riding down the road with his Sergeant and they're both singing "who let the dogs out...woof, woof..." over the PA. I thought those were the worst, however, until somebody above reminded me of "Seasons in the sun" and "Mustkrat love." Thanks alot, guys... now I find myself thinking back to "Short people" or even farther to Tiny Tim and his damn tulips... blech! Ross
