  1. I noticed the RF-83 has two sets of speaker input post. How does this work if you un-strap them? Will one set power the woofers while the other powers the horn? If that's the case, how would you hook this to the receiver since most only have one output per front speaker. I noticed the SunFire amp has a separate voltage and current output for each front speaker. Is that where you would use this un-strapped setup, run a wire from the voltage source the horn and a wire from the current source to the woofers?
  2. Well I'll with you guys. I didn't believe it when I heard what some people said. Wuzzzer, thanks for the offer, I'm not sure I make it to St.Cloud too often any more, I'm not going to rule it out but not sure it's needed. Like I said in my first post, I haven't listen to many other speakers, so when someone says something bad about the speakers I have, I don't have a leg to stand on in defense. I've heard these statements on the Audioaolics and Xbox forums. Also I said I couldn't decide if I should build my 5.1 around my current KG5.5's or around the RF-63's that I would like to use to replace the 5.5's. Well, after reading Jay post about him taking home and un-boxing his RF-83's, I'm more enthused about the RF-63 then my current 5.5's. I don't think I can do the 83's but might be able to reach for the 63's, so if there's any commission to be had, it should go to Jay for putting this motivation in me. Wuzzer, I lived in St.Cloud for about 6 years. I dropped $10,000 at audio king the first four years I lived there. Too bad that store went out of business. I got to know John Warner and Pall Glass and after spending that kinda money, I'm sure they got to know me. Hmmm, I think I'm ready to sell my sled to upgrade my HT. Anyone looking for a FireCat???
  3. Where did you find this "power amplification speaker matching guide"? Can't seem to locate it.
  4. Waiting for now might be the best choice. When it does come time to buy, you can get a Denon 3806 off eBay for less then $1,000. That's what I have my eye on. Buy the time I buy, they might have some thing else out, like upgraded HDMI. I think that's what every one is waiting for now.
  5. I'm afraid he's right about the speaker match. I have a Klipsch KV2 for the center and it comes no where close to matching the sound of the Klipsch KG5.5 I have for the mains. Here are two speakers from the same manufacture that don't even match. Finding a set of speakers from two different manufactures would be imposable, I think.
  6. Lets see if I have this right, you want to buy a receiver, center channel and sub for no more then $500? If that's the case, I'm not sure I can help. I'm all for finding a good deal, for I don't have much money for a system either, but that's a pretty tall order you have there. Maybe someone else has an idea.
  7. Nice set of speakers you have there. Who do you fly for? I used to work on Mesaba's aircraft, just ended earlier this year. Hard to tell by the pic, but that looks like an older CRJ?!?
  8. Oh, I'll definitely add the pieces with the final goal in mind. I just have to figure out what the final goal is.
  9. Wow, thanks for the quick response. I have yet to find speakers as efficient as Klipsch. I can't help but think that might have something to do with producing the finer details (or flaws) in the audio signal which leads to people thinking they sound more harsh. I've already contacted Klipsch support on which current product would best go with my KG5.5. The response I got was RC-62 center, RS-52 surround and RW-10d or RW-12d for the sub. I can't help the feeling that I would like to eventually replace the 5.5's with a set a RF-63, and that I should build the system around the RF-63's, but that might be a little on the high side for my budget. I can't wait.
  10. How come when I'm on some other audio forum and every time Klipsch speakers are mentioned, there are always a few people that mention how "harsh" the Klipsch horns sound? I have a set of Klipsch KG5.5 and think they sound great but that might be because I don't know much different for my lack of testing other speakers. I'm looking at expanding upon my set and turning it into a 5.1 system. I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with Klipsch products, but after hearing some complaints about how the horns sound harsh, I'm now a little hesitant.
  11. Yeah, that's right?!?! HDMI and DVI are both digital signal, I think I seen an adapter on the monster web site. How does the HDMI connections work on today's receivers? Is it just a switcher or for an example, can you run a HDMI cable from the DVD player to the receiver and then run component cables from the receiver to the TV? I guess I'm asking if the receiver will convert the incoming HDMI signal to analog component output? I believe the "today" blu-ray players are using HDMI connections. Or, might they use a different connection in the future when they become more settled, is that what's going on? Now, I have a HDTV 1080i. I'm not sure what my HD-DVD plan is. I just want to minimize my "being left behind in technology" after I buy my system. I swear to god, Dolby digital came out 10 minutes after I bought my Dolby pro-logic receiver.
  12. What are these power consumption numbers you speak of? The outlaw stuff looks interesting but I see no HDMI. I think that's going to be a thing to have. Will the receivers today be Blu-ray compatible?
  13. My current receiver is a ten year old Pioneer Elite VSX-49, 100 watt at 0.8% 8 ohm, has no component input or digital audio input (Dolby pro logic). Time for an update. For speakers, I have boxed up my smaller 5.1 system and now just play my set of Klipsch KG 5.5. After contacting Klipsch support about what speakers to go along with the 5.5's, I feel I will go with the RC-62 for the center, RS-62 for the rear, I haven't decided on a sub yet, possibly the RW-12d. After I'm done with that, I might replace the KG 5.5 with a set of RF-63. I have the feeling that Klipsch might have a replacement for them by that time. For a new receiver I have been looking at (but not limited to) the Pioneer Elite line-up. I would like to have 3 sets of component and digital inputs, ( 1 for Xbox360, 1 for the DVD player, 1 for the cable box or satellite) that should do it. I'm not sure I need more then the Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV?!?! It's rated at 110 watts X 7 at .09%. What would have the bigger effect, the extra 10 watts or the difference in where they measure the power, .8% vs. .09% compared to my old receiver? Multi room might be a possibility in the future. I'm not sure if I need HDMI, or what they are even for or any other connections that will be needed in the future. My second choice to Pioneer would be Denon but seems like you have to spend more on a Denon to get the same power output. I know this is a hard question to answer because everyone has a different need for a receiver but I appreciate your input.
