  1. Justin, Without knowing your room dimensions I can't make any concrete reccomendations, but I have some suggestions for you. Speakers: Seriously take a look at the Energy Take 5.2 speaker set. This set includes 5 speakers and a sub, and it is an update on their award-winning Take 5 system. It retails for about $650 and there is not much better at this price. The speakers are not too much bigger than the quints, and they offer more midrange. TV: There are a lot of choices here. Consider a Sony 32" or 36" non-Wega television. Decide whether or not you want component inputs. Receiver: Again a lot of choices... For a medium sized room look at the Denon 2801 or Onkyo 575x receivers. They can be had for under $500. These brands make some of the more "musical" receivers. DVD player: Can't help you much here, but you have to decide what's important to you. Do you want progressive scan, the ability to play dvds, etc... It's really hard to go wrong if you research wisely.
  2. quote: As for Superdave. WHY would you sacrifice Midrange? THese speakers are already lacking in the midrange... that just seems silly to me. Because I blew $60 on these connections! (j/k) In truth, I do think the Monster's more detailed sound was better overall.
  3. I replaced the speaker wire in my v2.400 speakers with 16 gauge monster XP soldered to Radio Shack gold plated 1/8" interconnects. I did not replace the female speaker jacks in the speakers. I am using a SB Live sound card. OK, here are my impressions: If you are expecting a dramatic improvement in sound, you will be disappointed. In fact, you might not even like the new sound of your speakers with the new cables installed, at least this was my immediate impression. After installation, I felt that the sound coming from my speakers has less full and warm. To make sure my observations were correct, I hooked up one speaker with Monster cable and one with the stock wires. I also turned off the sub. Sure enough, the speaker connected with the monster cable sounded thinner and more "distant." The midrange "gap" seemed to be made worse with the wire swap. I had been listening to rock, so I decided to try something different and popped in an opera CD. Here there was a significant difference, this time in favor of the monster cable. Vocals and instruments sounded clearer and more distinct with the upgraded connections. The stock wire made it seems like the performer was behind a curtain, whereas the monster cable sounded more like a live performance. In the end I decided to stick with the monster interconnects because I felt they produced more detailed and accurate sound. In doing so I sacrificed the fuller midrange of the stock wires, but the new sound was easy to get used to. Were the sonic benefits worth the $60 for cables and jacks? I would say no. It might, however, be worth it if you need to replace the rear wires with longer ones anyway. I would advice checking out Radio Shack speaker wire, as I can't imagine that the Monster brand would offer a significant performance edge.
  4. Hello, I am thinking of upgrading from the Promedia system to a real ht system, and I was wondering how much of an improvement the entry level Klipsch subs (Ksw-10, ksw-12) compare to the Promedia sub. Specifically I want to know if they go louder or deeper. Since they cost more than the entire promedia system, I assume the overall sound quality is better. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any experience comparing the Klipsch Promedia sub with the other entry level Klipsch subs, such as the ksw-10, ksw-12, etc. I'm thinking of upgrading to a better system, but I'm wondring how much better these subs would sound over the Pro sub. I am curious about both louness and frequency response here. I would imagine that a sub that costs mroe than the entire Promedia system should sound significantly better, but they are a such terrffic bang-for-the-buck system you never know. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
