  1. Hello Jeff. Sounds like you got GOOD help with your K'Horns. As you probably have seen by my two topics (photos and questions about High freqs. with my 1968 K'Horns) I have been hearing from different members on this. I was wondering how the high frequencies are on yours... Its pretty disappointing when a factory stock stereo running EQ controls `FLAT' in a newer Ford Explorer has more high end then my beloved K'Horns pushing the preamp treble to the MAX ! etc.. Glad you are liking the sound of yours. Take some photos and post, I sure have [] Truly, Gary
  2. Thanks SO much Bob for responding. I hope you saw the photos of my project also here on `2 channel' forum.. Shows how I went through this pair of K'Horns extensively INCLUDING the addition of the caps you sent me to the type `A` xover. All wiring can be seen redundantly throughout in those photos. Take a peek won't you? Would you suggest that I change out the K-77 drivers on these tweeters? You know, they DO seem to have an output of some kind. I mentioned in my photos topic, that I had finally got to listen to them, and early on noted that the tweeters are there, but they are LOW in frequency AND volume!, in other words, almost like a `midrange / tweeter' combination driver, but, as you say, drop out in the higher frequency area ... Since the wiring is good, and the xovers are GOOD, perhaps you or another member could steer me toward the right direction for a proper driver change out? Would Klipsch sell the tweeter assembly (2) complete or driver only?? Please write back and let me know. I really like these K'Horns, but they need the highs to complete the `package' [] Hear from you soon. Regards, Gary
  3. Thanks Tom. I really appreciate you nice comments. I remember about a year ago when I first joined the forum. I mentioned that I had been willed these speakers from a very good friend of mine that had passed on, and that someday, I would have them setup and take photos etc.... Well, that has now come to pass. [] There were MANY responses to that, but, I could NOT send any photos at the time because they were sitting in storage in my garage (this one, attached to house and very CLEAN), under a cover. So, I am glad to be able to present in detail my experiences cleaning them and bringing an audio signal to them once again after sitting silenced for the better part of 3 years! (O: I DO have another topic going, concerning my listening experiences over the past few days and my findings. I have mail there and suggestions by members to read on a certain problem I have noticed. Again, many thanks! Truly, Gary
  4. Thanks JJK... Ok, I will check my xovers again, but I was VERY careful and took those photos which can be clearly seen in most everyway. Perhaps someone will pick up on it? Funny thing is, as mentioned, BOTH are sounding exactly the same, so, I would have had to make the same mistake twice. Well, I can say, its possible. Bob Crites, are you reading this ???? Hope so. Going out to eat, will check here when I return. Perhaps someone will have answers ) Regards, Gary
  5. Ok, I thought I would start a new topic... First by begining with a note about all those photos on the `Old K'Horn Photos' topic. I hope that will get everyone who has 'stopped by' to see them (there are over 1000 of you!) up to speed on my short history with these pair. (only a few days of limited listening)... Just tonight, I hooked up an early Toshiba DVD player as a CD sorce to the Marantz integrated quad amp you see in the final photo. I can say this about what I am hearing. There is plenty of low end. NO need for a subwoofer. There is plenty of smooth midrange - just fine, but will hurt ears if one gets raising the 'V' knob over 10 'o' clock There is a good sound stage / image (not as convincing as my Pinnacle towers......but....the BIG sound from these makes up for it in a way) Here is the kicker! I'm wondering where the highs are ???? Are these speakers normally `shy' in the upper frequencies? I have to run the treble control to the max to hear a little top end in a cymbal crash, snare brush or triangle ! Sorry to say, my new BOSE Wave Radio has more high end detail, and you can't even adjust that thing!, so the hearing ain't gone just yet [] I set the amp to MONO to make sure that both sides are equal in what little high end is coming from the horn tweeter, this, JUST to make sure I didn't have two blown out drivers. They ARE equal and there is CLEAR HIGHS coming from them, but it is very, VERY little. You've seen by my story in the other topic about the new cap job etc. All is wired correctly. So, I have tried to cover everything here and in pictures as mentioned. Maybe all those with Klipsch and the many horn - tweeter arrangements by ORIGINAL design know something I don't. I would be glad to listen to your suggestions as long as I don't have to get into heavy mods. If this is how they are ment to sound by design, READ ---the lack of high end frequency response-- then I will just live with them as they are, perhaps push the treble on the preamp and that will be it. Please let me hear from someone? Thank you! Warmly, Gary
  6. Hello everyone. I was wondering if there was trouble for people to write back to this topic. I had my subscription disabled!!! Sorry, I hope that people will be able to write now.. I will learn how to run this thing yet [:$] ...Regards
  7. []Here is the final shot for now... This shows the one making all the bass on the right........ The left WILL have a half wall built to complete the installation. The electronics are just temporary for now.. I just wanted to hear that `wall of sound' for myself [] Thank you for viewing and PLEASE write if you want to chat or add comment. ..Regards, Gary
  8. #4............... Sorry they are not centered on the Ozawa poster....[:$]
  9. The following are some `formal' type photos so that you can see the finished project. ENJOY []
  10. Here is one of the rear, now that they are complete (without the side grills). Note some of the rubber padding has missing sections? This all by the previous owner. I would like to change this out and have COMPLETE strips.
  11. Original Klipsch `interconnects' cleaned and installed
  12. Check this out!! The interior of the horn cab has UNFINISHED VENEER!!! It could be varnished or lacquered with a clear, but, just oiling it up brought out the rich tones there too!
  13. This photo shows the finished front. After you let this sit for a bit, you then buff it. It takes back the shine just a bit, but leaves the rich color AND with NO oil left behind. I'm pretty happy with it.
  14. Seen here, the new stuff I used to oil the really lovely veneer on these K'Horns []
  15. Previous photo showed a stain marker used for hitting the nicks and dings.. The footing on the very front bottom can be seen here and is pretty much the worst of the damage in this example.
  16. Ok everyone.. Here are the latest photos from the Klipschorn project for you! These depict the final assembly of components and the cabinet rubbing etc.,concluding with the test setup - location. More to follow... ....Gary
  17. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have hooked them up!! WOW! Talk about sensitivity! I am running a Marantz 4140 quad integrated amp in the 25w per.ch mode and I can't believe how much these things put out. Volume at 9 'O' clock is plenty ! I have photos and plenty of them leading up to the setup as it is now. The right speaker is in the corner as far as I can get it, prohibited by a baseboard heater. The LEFT channel has NO wall as of right now, but my contractor is ready to build a half wall for it, so I am not worried. There is a BIG difference in the bass response and for sure - between the two, and the corner placement is key as heard. I did however imagine that these speakers would be a bit midrange heavy, and I was right, the tweeter plays lower then what I am used to with my dynamic speakers. The image and soundstage is a bit on the narrow side, BUT, its all very interesting to hear, and to be listening to something that was designed so many years ago, with that in mind, they make a HUGE wall of sound [] I tried only one CD so far, one for Organ and Orchestra (Telarc) at Davis Hall San Fransisco CA. Out of time right now, got a concert to play tonight and I need to get my gear loaded and ready to hit the road. More tomorrow WITH new photos! ........Gary Very Pleased !!!
