Hmmm...I know Krell makes great pre/power amps, and their processors are supposed to be decent, but I'm not so sure about their sub. If you want an insane sub(s) to go with the enigma series, then go with Hsu Research's HRIBR. It consists of 32 18" drivers housed in 16 separate 15"x18"x20" pieces. Anechoic frequency response is 10-100 Hz, +/- 1dB. Total cost, a mere $80,000. Always wanted to see a pic of this thing, but have yet to find one. -snap-

This is really off topic, but some time ago, somebody posted a picture of an insane set of speakers, that were basically unattainable for the majority of the world's population. I've looked back over the history of this forum, but apparently the earlier posts have been removed. In any case, is there a chance anybody has that picture saved? -snap-

Btw, just read Distec's post, and I totally agree with what he's said. From what I read on this board, it seems like 90% of the people who post here have no idea of what real hifi audio is all about. The pros are probably their first speakers that are somewhat decent, and thus results in the exaggerated claims given to these speakers. The bottom line is these are $250 multimedia speakers with a line source coming from a computer soundcard. This, in no way, represents an ideal situation in terms of creating the best sound possible. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. -snap-

Swerv: Why bother replacing the front sats with the Paradigm's? The way you have your setup now, the fronts and rears are perfectly matched (in terms of timber matching and what not), adding the Paradigms would throw everything out of wack, especially given the fact that you need to buy a separate amp for the Atom/Titans. Keep the Pros for your computer speakers and buy a whole new setup for music/home theater. Just my opinion. -snap-

I'm not familiar with the KG-1 speakers, but something that can handle a Carver amp should damn well be a whole hell of a lot better than the Klipsch Promedia speakers. Anyway, as for your problem, just a random suggestion, but have you checked all the wire connections to/from the sub? -snap-

My point wasn't that soldering audio equipment is a pain in the ***. It was that when soldering audio equipment you have to make sure that you use the right type of solder, the wires (if you are using any) are the right kind, audio equipment is especially sensitive to all sorts of externalities, and by adding components in close proximity to the existing crossover could introduce noise into your system. In other words, there are a lot of places where things can go wrong, and you can end up degrading the overall performance of your speakers rather than increasing. Just something for you to think about and to help you to see if it the added benefits of a new crossover would be worth the risk involved. Anyway, good luck if you do decide to upgrade the crossover. -snap-

Try muting all unnecessary inputs/outputs on your soundcard (do it through the Control Panel --> Sounds/Multimedia...that is if I'm not mistaken). -snap-

Just on a side note, when building your own audio equipment, especially with respect to amps and crossovers, you need to be skilled in soldering as it is very easy to degrade the signal through cold solder joints or other such problems. That's just something you might want to think about before you think about screwing around with the crossover network. -snap-

If you want a suggestion for some great speakers, that offer very good sound along with some very good value for money, look no further than Paradigm and the Paradigm Reference speakers. But, as you should know, don't take anybody's word for audio component until you've heard it yourself. My personal feeling is that if they're looking for a real home theater setup, and they're supposedly "entertainmentphiles" than one, they wouldn't be looking at Bose, and two, the Pros are not at all a good idea, as they only offer a 4.1 solution versus a true 5.1 solution needed with a real home theater setup. -snap-

As for finding out the specs of the Bose system (freq. response, and what not), I seriously doubt you'll be able to find it. I was bored one day, and went into a Bose store and the salesman said that Bose does not give out those specs because they don't matter, it's what a person hears that matters. You've got to wonder why a company would refuse to give out basic specs such as frequency response that are so critical in judging a speaker's performance quantitatively. Basically, and I might be biased, but my dad used to represent Bose back in the 70's, but I think Bose sucks, value for money isn't there, and total acoustic performance is lacking. But then again, that's my opinion. -snap-

k27-R: Those Acoustic Energy's are a 2.1 system, and correct me if I'm wrong, but they don't have a 4.1 system out yet. Are there any reviews of the Acoustic Energy speakers around? -snap-
