  1. If anyone else has had the same issues as me the solution is to disable encryption on your wireless network. The following blog post was my only source of relief: http://rbarabas.info/?p=40 -peter
  2. I have dug through these forums for quite a while. As a long time klipsch user I am very disappointed in the level of support given to the G-17 Air product. Not only is the firmware update process kludgy and unintuitive, I am constantly plagued with dropouts when using these speakers. I was hoping a firmware update would fix my issue but alas, all the damn thing does is flash red when I hit the "Ok" button to put it into firmware update mode. There have been several users on the forum with the same issue with NO REPLY FROM SUPPORT. I wish Klipsch would just own up to their mistakes and publish a guide on how to fix this or RMA units that need firmware updates. Simply not replying to user issues is just bad business. Been a Klipsch fan for the past 10 years, and just wholly disappointed in this product from start to finish. My setup: I have a laptop with CAT-5 going into dedicated wireless router (nothing else connected at all). Tried doing a factory reset and had no effect. Klipsch, if you're out there - please help! -peter
  3. Man I remember when Klipsch gave a crap about their users. I wish they stayed in the speaker business, anything involving electronics seems to lave me wholly disappointed.
  4. I would also like to know how this issue was resolved.
  5. Same issue here. 2 Year Bump. Read the G-17 FAQ with no help provided. Wish support here was better.
  6. I just got a yamaha rx-v1600 today, the automatic setup classified my RSX-5s in the front as "LARGE"? When I first got the speakers I didnt have the sub connected and I was quite surprised how well they handled low and midrange frequencies - but I dont think they should be classified as "large" (especially when I have a sub connected). Should I override this setting? thanks! -peter
  7. Amy, I have a pending order from your parts department for a new iPod dock (order #PS15488). You can go ahead and cancel it. I wont be needing the part since I returned the iFi to Costco. Looking on the forums I was not the only one waiting for the dock to get replaced, so I may as well let my part go to someone who needs it. I never contacted Gerry. Although the forums are not "officially" for customer support, it is vastly superior to talking to someone on the phone. If I was given an extension to reach him at I may call, but I am not going to wait on hold just to ask to get transferred to someone else. I dont really see the point, since I dont even own the iFi anymore. I did, however, buy a reference Cinema 8/10 hybrid system (2 rsx-5s and 2 rsx-4s with an rw-10d). The only reason I bought the system (other than the speakers sound awesome) is because of the way Amy and Michael responded. It showed me that there are actually people who care, although they may be hard to reach. Thanks! -peter
  8. Best buy was having a special with the Qunitet III/Sub-10 combo. You basically got a free Yamaha HTR-5940 receiver if you bought the quintet IIIs with the Sub-10. I decided to give them a try. For movies they seemed great. But for music I was not so impressed. After having them for 48 hours I packed them up and brought them back. Drove to the nearest klipsch dealer (almost an hour away) and picked up a hybrid cinema 8/10 setup. I got RSX-5s for the fronts and RSX-4s for the rear and RCX-4 with a RW-10d sub. I got RSX-5s as fronts for better music. It is a *drastic* improvement over the Quintets (even with a Sony receiver). Obviously they are more expensive but certainly worth it in my opinion.
  9. I was having the same issue and was told a few days ago that it would be 3 months before Klipsch has the iFi docks in stock. Amy has said you can choose to replace the whole system instead, without having to wait for the dock to arrive in stock. See Amy's post: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/permalink/853054/853580/ShowThread.aspx#853580 Good Luck, -peter
  10. The unit was purchased at Costco. I don't usually buy my AV gear there (usually just large amounts of food []), but I head alot of good things about the system so I had to try it. Costco was very nice, especially giving me a full refund after owning the unit for over a year. I didn't catch the woman's name who was rude to me. But I wouldn't want to single out any one person in the Klipsch organization. If you look at my post, I believe that the problem with Klipsch customer support is a systemic issue - not localized to any one individual. Some comments that might be helpful: 1. Is anyone actually manning the parts department phone? I tried calling them several times, put my phone on speakerphone while I worked and I never got through. 2. It seems that once a customer service case is closed, communication back to the customer is not a priority. My initial dealings were great, with prompt email and phone replies. But once the request was sent to the parts store for what I needed, the customer service pretty much ended. 3. If you have the option of leaving a voicemail, someone should actually be checking them and responding (even if there is nothing they can say that the customer wants to hear). If I initially knew the part was going to take six months to arrive I might have been ok with it, but to have to jump through the hoops that I did just to find that information out annoyed me to a point where I did not even want to own the unit anymore. I hope my post is not misunderstood. I think the iFi is a great product when it works. But when it doesn't work I would expect the customer service to reflect the quality that the Klipsch name represents. Maybe Klipsch should stick to what they do best, making great speakers. Since everything seems to work fine except for the "complex" electronics (the control dock). Just my 2cents. Respectfully, Peter
  11. I gave up on this problem. Anyone having similar issues that I was needs to have their control dock replaced. See this thread for what I have gone through with klipsch customer support, I would not wish it on my worst enemy: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/853054.aspx -peter
  12. I purchased the IFi system about a year ago. It worked great and sounded great. I thought it was a great product. About 4 months ago I was having problems (see: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/807267.aspx). And about a month later the speakers were completely unusable, I couldnt even use them through my PC. I emailed Klipsch customer support, and initially they were very helpful. They were going to replace the control dock at no charge. I waited about a month, nothing arrived. I sent an email asking what the status was, no reply. I tried calling the parts department, waited on hold for 30 minutes - then left a voicemail which was also unanswered. I emailed the customer service rep who originally helped me, no reply. At this point I gave up for a few weeks because of the holidays. I called back a few days ago, actually spoke to a person. He said he would call me back with an answer, he never called back. Today, I called and spoke with a woman who was very rude and informed me that the part I needed (the control dock) is backordered for another 3 months. I wish I knew that 2 months ago! Needless to say, I packed up the iFi brought it back to the retailer and pleaded for my money back. After I told them my story, they gladly took the item back. Klipsch has a reputation for making some of the best speakers on the market. I think they bit off more than they can chew with this system. I was planning on buying the RVX-42 speaker system for my new flat panel, but after this experience that will never happen. Respectfully, Peter
  13. Thats what I thought too. But I use the same ipod in my car with the dock connector and its fine. The way I understand it is that the iFi uses the line output of the dock connector, so the volume level on the iPod shouldnt matter.
  14. I started to experience problems when using the ipod with your iFi system. When I first plug in the ipod I can hear mechanical noises though the speakers. When I go to play a song it is unbelievably loud even with the speakers set at their lowest volume level (loud enough that I think it would damage the speakers if left playing). I set up a computer through the aux connection on the subwoofer and I do not experience this problem. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
