  1. So did matt sell these to you or did his girlfriend?
  2. You must have bought the one's listed on eBay in Hot Springs, Arkansas. So did you get them for $475? Those are 1969 models.
  3. I think I may have come full circle with this stuff... With old guitar amps everyone wanted the "aged" vintage look on the grills, especially Fender amps. This old look was partly just the natural aging of just being old but since a lot of guitar amps are used in clubs where music is played they were subjected to a lot smoke. So the "aged" look was mostly due to nicotine stains. Many guys when restoring old amps took the grills off and washed them, sometimes even at the carwash which made them look almost new. Anything that old that looked that new automatically started meaning non-original which then meant not worth as much money and much closer examinations from potential buyers. Now everyone wanted the "aged vintage" look that stated this item is the real deal. Now all attempts were to figure out how to make the new glittery cloth look old. Like I mentioned I used a stain mixture that was sprayed on but I heard of guys that didn't even smoke buying a fat cigar and placing the grill and lit cigar in a closed area and let everything bake, this worked but required way too much time. With audio, everyone seems to want everything as pristine as possible. Now attempts are made to refinish and restore items to as close to unused status as possible. Back on topic: The "waiting method" will work but it's not much fun waiting a long time. I would probably wash the grills with just basic soap and water if possible to remove what can be removed, let dry naturally, then try to find a large enough plastic bag to seal the grills and a fresh box of baking soda inside. It shouldn't take that long to remove any offensive oders, then you probably could use some of that fabreeze spray if necessary.
  4. I received the pair H700's I purchased a couple of days ago and as I mentioned in a earlier thread of my concerns whether or not the grillcloth was original. Here's the link to the original H700 (9) photo thread. I wanted to start a new thread concerning just the grillcloth since this probably applies to other models too. There's no doubt now that I have the speakers in hand and apart that the grillcloth pictured below is original. The seller mentioned that 1 of the grills had some staining, which I just think now is very slight uneven fading of the original. The original cloth has faded from the color that is underneath the klipsch logo which is a bronze/brown with black to a faded grayish charcoal with black. Years ago I use to restore old Fender guitar amps and I would mix up a solution of stains to spray on the new grills to "age" the grills to look vintage, it worked great and even the best experts in the business could not tell. So after seeing these grills my thoughts immediately turned to my old restoring ways and the possibility of restoring these grills to a closer original look. Don't get me wrong, I am just thinking outloud, these grills are still very cool looking just like they are IMO but I thought this was interesting enough to share.
  5. Bright, bright sun shinney day here so I decided to snap these photo's outside... Pretty nice overall, one has slight ring on top that might bleech out and one side has a few chips along the bottom but I like I mentioned these are perfect to re-verneer. The grills and logo's are excellent, all straight and untouched inside.
  6. I was thinking $400 and exact shipping for the Klipsch Heresy HBR's, I'll try to add photo's shortly... One good thing, I already have great shipping boxes that I just got with my H700's. After checking my spread sheet (yeah, it's that bad) I came up with 26 1/2 speaker pairs... I'll be thinning down this list soon... Klipsch Heresy (1979) Norman Lab Model 8 (1982) JBL L26 Norman Lab Model 432 Advent Large Norman Lab Model 10 (1979) Sansui SP-X7700 selling now Pioneer HPM-40 Fisher XP-7B selling soon KLH Model 32 selling soon Pioneer HPM-100 100w Fisher DS-825 selling soon Klipsch Heresy (1984) Realistic Mach 1 Pioneer CS-99A Klipsch H700 Heresy (1972) Norman Lab Model 10 (1980) Pioneer HPM-100 200w Fisher DS-822 selling soon Wharfdale W70C (single) Dynaco A-25 Klipsch Cornwall (1965) Norman Lab Model 8 (1976) Kenwood KS-H32 selling soon Yamaha NS-A838 & NS-A837 Advent Small Dahlquist DQ-10
  7. I am giving up the ghost on these 1984 Klipsch Heresy HBR's. I purchased these several months ago with every intention of installing exotic verneer that I've seen on many others that I am just mesmerized with. I just don't or won't have time to work with them anytime soon, plus I already have 2 other sets of heresy's to go with my cornwalls. These speakers look & sound great just as they are, HBR with black grills still all original. I wanted to offer them for sale to the true Klipsch'ers first at least temporarily before moving on but I am not in any big hurry either. I've only listened to these for a few hours since I have 25 other speaker pairs competing. I haven't taken photo's yet but I'll try to do that and post them here. AND: Woodworkers, if your up to it, you might just tempt me, I may consider sending the empty cabs to you and let you trick these out for me.
  8. I was about 1 hour late by the time I got your message, they had already ended before I searched for the badges. Thanks for your effort and let me know if you see any others. I looked pretty good last night on the bay and never found pie-wedge style badges, I did find the later copper styled. So I still need (1) pre-mid 70's badge. Wasn't there someone here that had them repopped? This was what I saw. http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-PWK-Speaker-Logos-30-Years-Old-New_W0QQitemZ230089936746QQihZ013QQcategoryZ61378QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  10. I knew these H700 grills were the non-removeable like my 65 Cornwall's. I mainly was just seeing if anyone was familiar with this style of grill cloth from '72 which after viewing the photo's again (and thinking 500 staples) it doesn't appear that this cloth was removed and/or changed. I wouldn't consider changing the grill unless I discover these are not original. Of course, if I could find some matching grill type like shown below as found on my cornwalls it would certainly be tempting. Who has an extra logo?
  11. Travis, Rich is right on the money with his how-to post and I agree not overloading the already fragile Klipsch servers is definately big plus... Specifically, I just use photobucket to host photo's. If you click the "insert/edit image" link above you'll see "Image URL". Just copy and paste the link from photobucket or any other image hosting service into that box then click "insert". To add multiple photo's you'll have to pay attention to where your cursor is otherwise you may be inserting images where you don't want them. Probably the best time saving trick is to look closely at your URL link that your posting, most of the time you can keep using the same link instead of bouncing back and forth between sites, then just edit the last digit or two to select the correct photo as it was saved on the image site.
  12. Just purchased these Klipsch model H700's for $465 plus shipping a couple of days ago. I already have '79 WO & '84 HBR Heresies so not exactly sure what appealed to me about these H700's other than their vintage (these photo's were taken by the seller). They look pretty straight to me and should look better after I get them and tune up the finish. The only real question I had about these was the grill cloth material as I've not seen enough examples to spot originality. An obvious re-capping looks to be forthcoming. I've read all the previous post I could find about this particular model without gaining much additional knowledge other than some intended applications and history. If someone can identify the type of drivers or would care to comment on these as to things I might check or upgrading info I'd be appreciative. These are fair game good or bad, you won't hurt my feelings. I'll re-sell them anyway if they don't match up with any of my systems, I am already considering selling the HBR's. I have a nice set of '65 Cornwalls so I am somewhat anxious to try these H700's in the mix.
  13. Bob, What value sonicap do you have specially made?
