  1. I'm a newbie round these parts, but I know where you're coming from. Pops are a nightmare. I use a wet vacuum machine, and it gets rid of a huge amount of surface noise. It won't turn a sows ear to a silk purse. I have a Blue Note of Sonny Rollins that looks so perfect, and I've cleaned the thing nearly till the grooves go flat, but it still sounds awful at the beginning. I do think though that the Rega Cart's tend to accentuate the noise, I ran a Bias many years ago, and from memory it was quite a hard little cartridge. The most forgiving cartridge I ever had was a Denon 103, but that might cause you problems needing a different phono stage, plus there's a whole can of worms with end of side tracking. I don't know if you can get one on your side of the Atlantic, but the Denon 110 is a little miracle for not very much money, I'm almost certain it would sound better, and make you less aware of the noise. Try some of your records on another deck as well, see if it makes a difference. It is worth getting right. I don't know what the second hand market is like out there, but it might be worth buying something like a VPI, cleaning all your records, and then selling it on. They do make a difference.
  2. Thanks guys. Hope you all had a great easter. Regards Richard
  3. Sorry Arfandbark, I've just opened them up now, and there's another mystery, there's no number on the driver but it looks like this. So I'm now hoping this is a real Klipsch driver, because the crossovers in there weren't for sure. There is a number on the horn itself that says K-701, but I presume that's the part number for the horn.
  4. Ok, this is what I've done so far! The driver has had a new voice coil, the speakers have had new crossovers courtesy of Bob Crites, these included new wires. I've checked all the wiring for being in the right place. I've swapped the driver from one side to another, and the problem follows the driver. My suspicion is that the diaphragm on the driver might have gone. But having had two attempts to repair and spent about £80 plus Bob's crossovers, I'm rather anxious to get it sorted this time. Heresy's are quite rare over here so these were an imported ebay 'bargain!!!!' I could have bought a pair of Cornwalls for what I've spent on them, but I'm not giving up....
  5. Hi can anybody help? I bought a pair of heresy II's in November and I've been working on them for what seems ever since. I've twice had to repair the squawker in one speaker, so I replaced the crossovers as well to make sure that there was no way they were being damaged via the wrong signal being sent etc.... Anyway to cut a long story short the same driver is broken again, I suspect there's more wrong with it than a re-coil and a clean can fix. I may send it away again, but I suspect I'll spend far too long listening suspiciously at it, so I'm trying to locate a replacement. I've tried Klipsch, but they're not interested as I'm in the UK. They referred me to their European distributor, who I have sent several emails to in the last 4 months, but have had no replies. Has anyone got any drivers they'd be willing to sell or be able to point me in the right direction, I'd be like a puppy with two tails if you can! Thanks
  6. Just a thought on this. The first time I heard any Heresy's they were the II version, and they were at the home of a Klipsch owner from another forum in England. They sounded so wrong. They were being run with a Naim 62/140/hicap combination, and they sounded like a bad PA. My friend and myself are valve nuts, so we'd gone over to convert him. Nothing worse than a zealot of course :0 So anyway first up was a cheap as chips Chinese EL34 amp....now that's better, still a bit hard at the top when pushed. This chap likes his music loud. So we moved onto my friends Prima Luna KT88 amp. A lot better, and nearly all the hardness had gone. The best sound of the night though was my Manley Stingray in Triode mode. Beautiful. I bought some! It's the quality of the first watt that counts. I'd try a different amp, preferably something with bottles in
  7. Thanks. I shan't be doing it myself, I'd probably solder myself to the table.
  8. That would seem a fair supposition looking at that one! ok so what now? I suspect I'm coughing for new crossovers then[:'(]
  9. Thanks, seek and ye shall find [] I'll do some pictures in an hour or two, when my wife goes out. Crawling on the floor, poking my camera into a speaker enclosure may well confirm her opinion of me as a practising lunatic.
  10. I picked up a pair of Heresy II's off ebay europe before christmas, but they've been nothing but trouble. I've twice had the mid driver repaired, the second time it had a brand new coil. It's starting to sound funny again. The sound is just like it's distorting, and is particularly noticeable on piano or guitar, where the note seems to just crack up. Now I've had a really good poke around inside, and my crossover looks really odd, not a bit like the one in the HII caps thread. The caps aren't on the board, and neither are those two circular jobbies (see I know all the technical terms) What I'm wondering is, is perhaps the drivers aren't the problem and the crossover is, although strangely enough when I have had the drivers repaired they sound fine. They don't sound too bad at all with most music, it's just really percussive stuff. I'm wondering what solutions there may be, is there something in the crossover stuffing the driver, or perhaps the driver needs something else replacing, are their gaskets or cones perhaps? I've had a good look at the corssover, and I've ruled out the possibility of a dry joint, so could it be that some of the components need replacing. They look brand new though. Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received, I'm at a dead loss. Regards from Manchester Richard
  11. Thanks. I'll try tomorrow and see where I get to. They sound pretty good with one driver down! Are the parts to upgrade the caps easy to find? What caps do I need? Regards Richard
  12. Hi, I've just bought a pair of Heresy II's, 92 models I believe, which are hard to find in the UK I'll tell you. Anyway they seem to have a problem with one of the drivers. The mid range driver on one speaker only seems to work if I turn it right up. Is this indicative of a failed driver, or is it more likely to be a dodgy wire or a crossover problem? If it is a driver, is it possible I can get a replacement, or are these no longer made? Thanks.
