  1. I just missed a buy on an RSW-15 on eBay which went for $1025...%#@#%. Klipsch people: I have RF-7 fronts and RF-5 surrounds.....I have a left over RSW-10 sub at present...... What do you think? Do I really need an upgrade? What about the Velodyne SPL-1200R for around $1000? Other recommendations with good compatibility? Of course I watch movies, but my system is dedicated to best musical sound I can get out of these babies. It's GOT to be accurate! Room is long...about 4500 cu ft but my listening area is at one end in about a 15x18 patch of this room. I'm in eastern NC...can't really audition too much out here. I appreciate any comments.. Roger
  2. Thanks for the tips, Steve. I just got the Lucinda Williams (live in Austin) that you recommended and it's what you say it is. It falls into the category of ANY DVD that I'm likely to enjoy if it exhibits good musicianship with great sound. What's the point of having a good sound system if the "output", "content", or whatever is crap! I haven't gottent the Richard Thompson (live in Austin) DVD yet (not available locally) but found a YouTube clip of it....I just ordered it from amazon. Some other boards that I monitor lead me to Peter Gabriel's "Secret World-Live". Was it mentioned here? I don't remember. It's an older release filmed in Italy, but it was an excellent show if you're a Gabriel fan. Let me know what you think about the Tori Amos (Welcome to Sunny Florida) after you've heard it. Back to the board later with some of my own favs. Roger
  3. Thanks for the response, Just now getting to read your article. Appreciate the link. Roger
  4. Well, a little late to the party but I don't think I saw anyone mention: 'Cream' at the Royal Albert Hall. Recorded in May 2005. I think this double disc was notable just for the rare opportunity to see Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce with Clapton. It was a time trip. Both recording and video were above average and the presence of Baker and Bruce certainly elevated Clapton's performance. Rent it even if you don't buy it. It's historic if nothing else. Others that I didn't see mentioned that might be of interest: Diana Krall: Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival. More intimate than "Live in Paris" and a small, tight ensemble. She does more original stuff and less cover but very good. Bela Fleck: Live at the Quick. Such unconventional instrumentation (banjo, oboe, sax, english horn, steel drums, etc) and musicianship. This can only be described as "fresh meat" for a Klipsch system. Tori Amos: Welcome to Sunny Florida. Shot on the last night of a year long tour, early September after a late summer storm. Hot, steamy, humid. Videos a little over-edited but the sound of her simple back-up bass and drums along with that BIG beautiful Bossendorfer grand piano upfront. Nice vocals....excellent concert. Enjoyed many of the previous mentions esp Allison Krause, Steely Dan, David Byrne (Stop Making Sense) which I consider my best 3 sounding DVDs. Roger
  5. Thanks for the quick responses....I knew that the RC-7 would get a lot of nods... So, until I may do that upgrade...I'm still getting 'system adjusted' to adding these monster RF-7s to the room and keeping traction on the idea of keeping my old RF-5s in the surround position.....Wow...never thought of that as an option!...but I'm sure I will. So, lacking a bigger sub...how does my receiver setting of "large" for the RF-7s, "small" for the RF-5 surround and RC-35 center look 'on paper'. If I've got it right, I think the 60 hz cross-over for the sub lets the center and surrounds 'rest' below 60 if they are set to "small" and seems reasonable regarding specs. Can't adjust for each channel so I've got to pick just one. I'm listening to it and it seems pretty good. Just checking if I'm missing something in the set-up. Never had a more happy problem... OK....back to digging out my old CDs for a new listen...and thanks 'Daddy Dee' for your note on the RF-7s. ... Roger
  6. I have a long-time evolving system which I just woke up and realized is a Home HT set-up! I diddled along until late '04 and bought my first Klipsch speakers, the RF-5's, and was blown out by the difference in them and my Def-techs. To make it short...many trades later, I decided to grab a pair of the RF-7's as the models changed this year and am wondering what to feed them! As it happened, the current system snapshot is: RF-7 mains, RC-35 center, RF-5 surrounds, and RSW-10 Sub powered by a Yamaha RX-V2600 (just had to have those Burr-Browns). I know this seems a little odd but I do a piece at a time. Since I'm likely to stay in this config a while, let me describe my settings and get your opinion. My requirements are mostly (but not exclusively) for music. I love the DTS and DD discs for concerts in all genres: classic, acoustic, jazz, rock, etc. No music turned away! My room is 15' by 30' on two levels with my listening area boxed in about 15' by 18' and good upholstery and floor covering, stucco (texture) walls. So, I started out with the auto set-up from the Yamaha...got "large" all around. Jeez it sounds good! But, I'm following some thread advice and re-set manually to "large" for the RF-7's and "small" for the RC-35 and RF-5 surrounds. I felt I had to cut back a little on the center channel out-put but I don't own an SPL meter (yet). I set my Yamaha bass cut-out at 60hz. It still sounds great, but I'm like a starving man looking at a plate of good food and like about anything coming out of these Klipsch speakers. My first care is to get the most out of what I have so please fire away......but if you just HAVE to give advice..[]... on what to upgrade to next....I guess I'll just have to listen! Thanks for any comment!! Roger (I know it's tiresome for you long-timers to hear this, but I can't belive how fan****ingtastic these speakers make Diana Krall sound!)
