  1. I've already started "foaming" my listening room. I did a "rough in" and even with my minor room mods the sound cleaned up quick. The room was much noisier than I would have imagined. It's already a big jump ahead from before. I'm starting my research in my available spare time.

I left the Khorn room with the same impression. The soundproofing greatly enhanced the sound characteristics. Now it's up to me to learn what it takes to be efficient in this area. With a little help from my friends.

I also thought the Aurelex? treatments were way cool and had a good look to them.

  2. The EL34's and CORNWALLS will rock your world. Buy a nice pair and if necessary rebuild the B crossovers and you're ready for another 30 years of killer rockin out. Versatile speaker all around. I just heard the new CWs and tubes would bring them into the new world quick. You want to rock, I'd go larger than the Heresy. Just my old Cornwall mentality though.

Pick you up a nice used pair of CWs from one of the trusty forum members and you're ready to go. Any kind of tech support you need here. Parts are easily had and we've got some of the best techs hanging around this forum you would ever want. Price on used CWs will be from $400 used up to $1200 depending on condition. This is a daily occurance.

No worries about you loving the sound on hot glass.

"A brave statement from a smallish Techie. We may come and get ya next year Trey."

I remember hearing something about the "Size of fight in the dog".

...All the short guys say that...Wink

    Bill

Yep, I guess I could be considered short. Ol' Tennessee farm boy. I was the old fart with the USMC cover (hat) on my head. 6' 240lbs. I throw around speakers all the time also. I had a pretty good limp saturday. Pulled a muscle in my back/hip. I picked up an old Hammond theater organ and put it in the back of my pick up myself. Kinda rough on an old man.

    I hate getting old.

  4. "A brave statement from a smallish Techie. We may come and get ya next year Trey."

I remember hearing something about the "Size of fight in the dog".

After meeting Trey I didn't notice him being smallish by any means. Maybe not large in stature but I wouldn't call him smallish.

And you better not underestimate us southern boys. Tackle about anything whut crosses us. Looked to be a bunch of "equalizers" layin' around the shop

    Damned Yankees!

  5. My apologies for coming off as being ungrateful. Nothing of the sort. You guys are super and your efforts haven't gone unnoticed. My utmost thanks go to Klipsch in doing this for us. Trey, Michael, all involved, I sincerely thank you for everything.

I just feel the Jubilees didn't get a fair chance to shine because of the room and dozens of people saying hello at the mixer.

  6. I'm not sure you could compare the RF-7 with any Heritage. Just different speakers. The RF-7 is a killer speaker. Fairly unique in the Klipsch line as all Klipsch models. As far as the Heritage line goes, I think some of us partial to them must hear the same qualities in them PWK did. We love them and nothing else will EVER do. They are also their own creature and properly driven are about as good a speaker as there is. I no longer can say the Heritage is just for 2 channel. Many are making top of the line HTs with them. It's kind of like Ice cream flavors. Everyone has a preference in taste(sound).

Everyone who loves audio should hear the Heritage line. PWK made many great models not dependent on corners.

  7. I think both pair of Jubilees have a lot of potential. The room set up was very lacking and didn't give them a chance to show what they are capable of doing. I'd love to hear all the Jubilees in a good room with proper amplification to get a good idea of what they are and what they can do. It wasn't fair. Listening to any speaker in a room like they were set up in, and trying to "hear" a speaker with 50-60 people talking loudly just to hold a conversation isn't the way to audition a speaker.

As far as the loudness goes, your db meter may be lying to you. Many people walked out on the listening levels they were being played at. I even overheard the Rural Mail Carriers convention down the hall complaining it hurt their ears also. Careful not to cause hearing damage to the faithful. Louder doesn't always mean better.

  8. I couldn't agree with you more Christy.

Impressive the dedication ALL of the Klipsch employees show to the products and their enthusiam to be part of the pilgrimage. Smile Klipsch, you're a winner with a future.

It's great to see an "Old Standard" in the industry looking forward with vision to keep this beloved company afloat, successful, and expanding.

Please just remember where Klipsch comes from and keep the companys "Heritage" alive and strong in the U.S.

2 Channel definitely took a hit in the industry for years. I'm not sure Big and Heavy speakers did this. I feel it's more that the common available electronics fell on their face and were better suited to digital surround than pure music reproduction. Looking at the overall picture since around '82 or so this seems to be the common opinion among listeners.

Looking at one of the hottest industries now the imports are leaning towards tubes and 2 channel. Hey, they know a good thing when they hear it. It's astonishing they're not just copying old technology but taking tried and true products and making them available at affordable prices. 2 channel and quality listening aren't dead by any means. This old market remains untapped. We have the money.

Look at all the forums on the web in audio. It seems many 2 channel listeners have a voice there. Where else do we get the opportunity to bang heads with others listening in this proven mode. Marketed correctly I feel there are many untapped wallets screaming to be put to use if a very accessible product is at hand. I sell quite a few used items and the comments are all the same. "You can't buy quality like this anymore", "It's hard to find new anymore, "Want it now". Understandably it's difficult to stock product and train salespersons working for other companies that sell numerous brand names. I'm passing the word on Klipsch. Marketing without tapping your budget.

One of your best "salespeople" is the product itself. Many of my customers listen to my personal Heritage and have to have them. 2 in the past 2 weeks alone. I'm nobody. My customer count face to face can be counted on one hand per month. One was at the Pilgrimage. IT WAS HIS WIFES BIRTHDAY. HE BARGAINED HIS WAY TO THE PILGRIMAGE. Yep it was "Bad Dad". Way to go Glenn. You have a great wife. I wish my EX was like that. I hated chosing between the Cornwalls and my wife. Sometimes I miss her. Heck, when that happens I just crank it up a notch. I'm over it. Love of product. The other wanted to be there but couldn't make it and is now looking for a nice pair of Heritage for his home. He has a great dedicated listening room with the big Polk and was blown away by the Heritage on an old pair of organ amps. People just need to hear these old jewels and the market is still here. The Europeans and Asians are on the Bandwagon. The U.S. hasn't given up. Just hasn't heard them. Once they hear these old mainstays they buy. They BUY. We need to get the product and name available to the people.

Even in the audio world many don't know the Klipsch name. Starting tomorrow (today now) when I put a few more items on Ebay I'll have my Klipsch Hat in the pics. Klipsch Logos are going to be noticed. There will be no hit on your advertising budget. I'll do my part to make Klipsch a common household name. It is an uncommonly good product. I'll share a slice of the Pie. I'll do my part.

Don't forget our Heritage. I like the fact my speakers have the name of a "PERSON" handwritten on the back of my speakers. Pride and quality.

I don't want to have to "remember when". Please!

  9. "Lisa,

The funny thing is that Caroline was picked so I tagged along and did it with her, as you and your husband did Caroline and I both pretty much wrote the same coments and we never discused or talked with each other during or right after. we turned in or papers and then found out what each other thought. Our impressions were that A was the better choice it had a bigger sound stage and the clairity was alittle better. We both thought B had a little more bass but it was muffled a little. A was more in your face and B was more off in the distance."

    Customsteve,

I found your description extremely accurate as to what I listened to. The only noticable difference is your " A" was my "B".

    Harry

BTW, if I haven't said it enough, Thanks to everyone at Klipsch. Top notch guys and gals.

  10. You don't have to settle for low power SET. http://www.mcalisteraudio.com/

I'm running the McAlister PP-150 amp and just ordered the new design Preamp to match it. Without any doubt it's the best amp I've heard. He also has SET amps over 22 watts per. More than enough power. The price is amazing low. He will build to your hearts content. I've talked to Peter McAlister personally over a dozen times and he's just "one of the guys". More into the sound part of the business than he is into the money end. Worth checking into guys. This isn't just the same old tired tube designs done over and over. He's got some serious gear at prices that will make you think he has lost his mind. You got to hear them to really appreciate the special work he is doing.

He has one of the finest phono stages built into his preamps you're gonna find at any price. I've got the gear. I know.

Upgrade or not? This is an upgrade for sure. Money well spent. Not just more "well advertised audio".

    Harry

  11. The box sets prices are getting out of hand but the recording companies know we will pay it. They can put out less material with less work for more bucks.

I just paid over $300 bucks for a Beatles greatest hits 4 cd set in HDCD. Used. It's supposed to be in perfect condition but still a remaster that will most likely never find the sound of the original 45s & LPs I started buying back in '64.

Thankfully most of my old vinyl is still in great shape and I'm going to start putting my vinyl on CD. The burners have evolved into nice high end gear now and the prices to put my vinyl on a good sounding format disc are getting close. I want to find the high end burner for my PC and go to HDCD on my vinyl. It's the best format I've heard so far.

The **** are burning some good vinyl now. Still a long way to go but the old stuff is coming around. There's a lot of rich folk who own the rights to the music and being able to purchase the rights to mass reproduce has to be very expensive.

I think the answer lies in front of us to burn our own discs off vinyl and eliminate the music execs. The technology is here now. I'll just have to throw a new card in the pc and learn the software.

    Harry

  12. "With that reasoning in mind, I figured buy it once and get it right the first time."

Boy, did you find the right forum! This place is good for the purist mind! Hard on the wallet mind ya, but good for the mind!

Hey, you ever heard the Heritage Line with tubes? It's gonna cost ya. LOL !

    Harry

  13. "There not some big bulky things are they!" uhhh.... no honey, they are in cherry so they will blend in beautifully with the floor... You won't even notice them...

I tried that one in '76 with Cornwalls. It didn't go over too well when I pulled in the driveway and she looked at the ugly monsters in the back of the truck.

  14. Darn, Wish I could get around everyone early today but no can do. I'll see ya all at the Holiday Inn Bar or Banquet room tonight around 8:00 indy time. I have to be at the nursing home around 5:30 and make sure dad eats supper and doesn't go off on the great people at the home he is in. Then get the 6 year old to the sitter for the weekend. (Yep, still a single full time dad of a 6 year old.) I'm looking forward to putting the faces with the posts. Big deal for me. I'm getting pretty attached to the forum members here.

I'm white headed, (what's left of it), 6' tall 240lbs, wear glasses and will probably throw on a pair of jeans and blue dress shirt. USMC logo belt will probably be an easy choice for spotting me. Looking forward to meeting all.

  15. If you listen to a lot of vinyl make sure the preamp you're interested in has a compatable phono section. Some of these DO NOT. Sounds like you have some pretty nice gear!

Sometimes "upgrades" end up being just more gear sitting around. But what fun it is! Some of the forum members might want to chime in with input on SET with Rock with SET amps. Many variables to consider. Weigh all variables and requirements before dropping the money on unneeded or unnecessary gear.

  16. Great find!!!

Every now and then you find good deals. Shipping scares many sellers and the larger speakers can be picked up for a song sometimes.

I prefer the Chorus 1 personally with the front ports instead of the passive in the rear on the II. When I built my speakers I didn't have room for the CWs (my favorite speaker ever built) and knew I could fit in the Chorus footprint. I made a pair of Cornwalls shaped like the Chorus 1. Worked out great.

I think you'll love the Chorus as they are.

    Harry

  17. $350 is a steal on them. The Chorus is an excellent speaker. Chorus 1 or 2 either one.

Figure in shipping but if at all possible pick them up. The majority of people haven't a clue how to pack up a 90+ pound speaker. Then figure the package handlers will search to find a way to destroy them anyway.

I don't mind having a case of golf balls shipped but I'm against having my electronics shipped unless it's something light and not too fragile or expensive. I ship many items and package pretty good but I've had forklift forks pierce boxes and completely through cabinets. By the way it was UPS. They refused payment. Said it wasn't packaged well enough. the one cabinet had a very clean 1"x 8" hole from the fork through both sides of the cabinet. What am I supposed to use in packaging? 1/4" armor plate? The woman that owns the UPS store where it was shipped from wrote me a check for both speakers and shipping and let me keep the speakers. I gave them to my buyer. It pays to do business with reputable people. My hat is off to the lady who owned the UPS Store franchise where I shipped them from. She sold the franchise a month or so after this and I haven't shipped UPS since. I doubt I ever will.

    Harry

  18. My Wallrus are basically Cornwalls. The cabinet uses the CW volume, K-600 Horn, and K-55 mid driver. It's a very smooth transition. I had to play with the crossovers a bit because of my room size but the results are excellent with the CW1526 Crites Cast Woofer.

I have a small listening area. It's roughly 14' wide and 12' deep with the front of the cabinets approximately 10' from my listening sweet spot. With my small room I couldn't get my CWs in the listening room and still have room to walk so I built a pair of CWs up and deeper than the standard CW but still used the same cabinet volume. They're a "hot rod CW with the Crites Woofs and tweets. Nice, deep bass, sparkling highs, and smooth throughout the listening range. I am very happy with the results.

You won't go wrong with the cast using it for a CW replacement woof.

  19. "but I'm surprised you haven't got offers like cost plus a case of beer or something along those lines."

    Michael,

Only if you pay cost of shipping the beer. COLD!

My apologies Alliclaytor if it seems I came down too hard on ya dude. We all see things diff I guess. There was probably more than I read into the posts. Glad ya didn't skulk off into the night.

  20. "Talk to me after someone steals your SAINTS from you, and their trophies, and their mementos, and leaves you without a professional football team.at 2:00 AM in the morning under the cover of night."

We are building a new stadium here in Indy. There was a lot of talk the Colts might move if we didn't get them a new stadium. Football has changed as I knew it. Free agency, Salary cap restrictions, stadiums, sponsers, etc. Just big business I guess. After all, big business has never cared for the consumer. That's all it is anymore. Just stinkin' big business. The ONLY loyalty in pro football is from the fans. Definitely not the owners. Few if any of the players. None of them.

That's just the way it is.

    Harry

  21. "well I am kinda available"

I personally will be glad when you find you an old lady, woman, wife, ball and chain, duck's anchor, whatever. Then I'll be able to latch onto more Klipsch speakers.

Harry in Indy. (Too close to Colter's Klipsch Museum.)
