  1. I thought about making a flexy table, but it did not hold a WAF....lol....I'm not "crafty" and I don't really have the tools to build one myself. I live North West of Pittsburgh, but do not know of any furniture makers.
  2. My fiance said she would buy me an xpa-5 for xmas [] to go with my Klipsch setup(RF-7s). There are just some women in the world that actually understand men(though I know she's only buttering me up cuz she wants to buy a new mercedes after we get married). Anyhow. Would there be any benefit to using the XPA-5 to run my fronts and center and using my marantz amp(sr-8400) to power my rears vs just using the xpa to power all 5(marantz is still going to be used for pre-amp).
  3. Well...I guess my budget is kind of tight...probably less than $400 would be okay(still need to get my processor and BD Players...lol)....as far as metal, wood, glass tops(that's pretty optional). Currently everything is a walmart TV Stand that is supposed to be used for a 32"(I had my first sanyo 30" widescreen crt on it...that thing was heavy!) If it's wooden, I'd it to go with our other furniture(which looks like this: http://www.roomfulexpress.com/pittsburgh-furniture/profileshell/profile.php?profile=family&FAMILY_CD=864618488&source=recommend ) or my cherry RF-7s(which don't seem so cherry--> http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rf-7.aspx ). If it is metal, anything black or gray would match nicely because that's what my components are. I guess it just needs to be sturdy and big enough to hold my components...
  4. I'm looking for a new TV stand for my sony and my RC-7. That RC-7 is a beast and doesn't seem to fit well in many cabinets. The stand also needs to hold an emo xpa-5, marantz sr-8400, my motorola comast cablebox, my 360, and my 2 upcoming purchases(sony s550 and emo umc-1-->will lose the marantz when I get this).....I do not have room for a seperate media cabinet...the WAF was turned that down on a re-arrange of the living room...any suggestions would be appreciated.
  5. Has anybody actually heard the mps-2 vs xpa2/xpa5 combo on their RF-7s? I've noticed that people have posted that they like their setup(either the mps-2 vs xpas), but no definate comparision has been made between the 2. I'm about 75/25 HT/Music.
  6. I actuallly have never heard any tube amps(that's why my budget is so low-->Plus I'm not rich and my WAF seems to be low these days as well...lol). The tube amp is just kinda something for me to fool around with. People have spoke of good things about tube and the Klipsch, but no (reasonable) model has ever been presented for me to take a listen myself. I'm going to be getting a SS for myself for xmas(emo mps-2-->doesn't seem like it can be beat for the $$$). I have "approval" for that(mainly because the ol' lady likes the HT experience that I recently got her into...sometimes she's like a child...she doesn't know she likes something until you force feed 'em it....sshhhhh....don't tell her I said that....then there won't be any new amps...lol)....the tube amp is another thing is a whole another thing...it's just something for me to try on a 2-channel scale and see how it sounds...I'd like to hear my RF-7s a little warmer....
  7. Recently, I brought on to tube amps. I was wondering what a good inexpensive option(new or used) for no more than $300. I know that doesn't seem like a lot of money for an amp, but the RF-7s are extremely efficient and can be powered with just a few (good) watts....
  8. What models should I be checking out for the Sunfire and Outlaw?(new/used/discontinued)?
  9. I've been waiting around to get into the HDMI game for sound options. I currently have the RF-7 setup being powered by my Marantz SR-8400. It does an okay job, but I know I can get a lot more out of them with some new equipment(plus, it's always fun to buy new stuff :oP). Having said that, I'm looking for an inexpensive option to help me along with this dilemma and came across Emotiva. I was looking at the XPA-5 for power, but am afraid that the non-discrete amps in it might not do the job. Does anybody else have any other inexpensive options? Also, I was wondering how this holds up the Rotels?
  10. I know this might be a really dumb comparison, but I was wondering if the Crown could produce anywhere the same sound as the rotel?
  11. I'm thinking of adding an seperate amp to my setup, but I don't know which one to go with. Currently I'm running the RF-7 series off of my marantz sr-8400, but it's time for something more. I've been looking at the Rotel for quite sometime, but there are not any dealers close to me that carry it so I have not heard it yet. Many people rave about the pairing. My local dealer does however, carry the Anthem line and I must say I don't know a whole lot about the company. I'm still going to use my SR-8400 for as my preamp, and was thinking about running the MCA20/30. Any ideas?
  12. Well..I think I'm going to do the networks then....as soon as I get my income tax back(hopefully I won't owe this year)
  13. When you say, 'networks', I'm assuming that you mean the xovers...
  14. I also own a HK AVR-630, but I did not like the way the 7s sound with it for music.
  15. well...I was going to put in another dedicated HT room and have a seperate room for 2 channel listening.
  16. I was wondering what would be more beneficial to my sound experience for my RF-7s. $$$$ is a little tight or else I would probably do both(which in time I will eventually), but my question is, which one should I do first? Currently I am powering them with my Marantz SR-8400, but I was leaning on getting a Rotel RB-1080(which seems to be a pretty good match with 7s) and still using my marantz as a pre. Of course, I would go with another amp option as well, but for the price, it seems to fit well with the 7s. I have also considered getting a new AVR with HDMI 1.3a for TrueHD sound for a HT experience, but it doesn't seem to be in my budget. Reason for the change: 1. They just don't seem to produce enough bass for me and the highs are a little bright(but I still like the way the highs sound). I run them with my SVS 20-39 PC+ (I would like to remove my sub and put it in another room). 2. Always seem to have an upgrade bug.
  17. I have an SVS 20-30 PC+ that I'm using for the sub.
  18. Well...both receiver I got for a bargain(Marantz for $550 on ubid about 2.5 years ago and the HK for $130 open box from circuit city-->yeah..couldn't believe had to buy even though I didn't need it-->it does have a scratch on the side though). One of these days, I'm going to break down get me a rotel RB-1080 and a new Receiver that does HDMI 1.3a, but I'm waiting until prices come down....I'm a bargin buyer(some might call me cheap, but I call it smart). Plus, It was hard enough convincing my finance' to let me get the RF-7 package as it was...lol....but we came to an understanding... Overall, I'm just trying to get the most of out my RF-7...will be doing the Dean mod before I buy anymore equipment though. Oh...and bhenry...I didn't take it as a bash, I took it as constructive critism, which is why I posted the question...
  19. I was wondering which receiver I should use. the HK is rated at 75wpc and the marantz is rated at 110 wpc. the Marantz sounds great for movies, but doesn't seem to be bring enough bass for music(though the highs are crystal clear). As far as I've read the wattage isn't a huge issue because the RF-7s are extremely efficent and don't need a lot to push them. Do you think I should try out the HK(my main concern is laziness cuz it takes about 6 hours to unhook and hook it back up...because of the way the wires are binded together).
  20. DeanG, I was wondering if you got my email that I sent to you about the crossover mod? I'm very interested....
  21. I saw the that DeanG was the man to do the mod. I've read reviews on his crossover mod and everybody seemed to be happy with it. As far as my RF-7s low freq goes, It seems as though the woofers aren't really moving...I had to put my hand on them to make sure they actually worked and they weren't DOA.
  22. I was wondering if somebody could tell me how the sound improves and if this mod is truly worth it?
