  1. save yourself LOTS of money in the long run, and audition the upper end reference floorstanders. rf-7's used run about the same as f-3's new if i remember, or close enough to ditch the f-3's
  2. c'mon keith, thats the worst sales pitch ive ever heard.... didn't get your pm though.... you can e-mail me at xela9406@yahoo.com $125 plus shipping
  3. punch, acid, anything big and cheap oh, and cigars are good for you. Coincide with poker and good vodka, and its borderline spiritual
  4. i just had about 18 natural light's, and I've never liked my clapton so much damn right about the roommate's, I came in from class early one day last semester and my roommate was blasting rap loud enough to hear 100 feet down the hall, no joke as to the wine, mixed half and half with grape juice, and I'll pound a bottle or two, otherwise, ugh
  5. Just hooked up my crown xti 2000 to my denon receiver and new subs. Crown can barely get a signal unless denon has sub at +12 and volume at least moderate. Any ideas? I'm running the crown in parallel, tomorrow I'll see if bridgeing it helps. Parents are sleeping.........
  6. 2004 season owned. BD and Cavies with summertrain blues mix and 007.... I need to get my hands on a high-quality recording of some drum-corps brass warmups. I LOVE my rf-7's, but man, I just can't imagine even coming close to that wall of sound. Think you'd need a 60 foot arc of rf-7's spaced every 2 feet.
  7. diy. $750 and no need for an amp gives you a LOT of options, and any finish you want
  8. Going to the show tonight in Columbia, MO with some buddies and my old hs band director. Tempted to skip the first 4 corps to watch the big daddy's finish warm-ups.
  9. as far as my method of construction goes, be careful. If the outside pieces are cut precisely, mine were, and the final dimensions of the internal bracing are off by any 32nd of an inch, itll show up as either a gap or a "not fit" when you try to lay all the exteriors on. Power planar made it a 30 second fix, but without it, I would have been sanding for a long time.
  10. keep running into obstacles... jigsaw broke, need rca to xlr adapters for the crown... some progress though
  11. just went crazy on subwoofage and have NO money. It'll be next summer before I can afford a 64. (did just pick up some MINTY cherry rb-75's for $650 though) Scary thing though, I called ultimate looking for a floor model or open box here in town, they didn't have any, not one store in the region had one, there was ONE black one at the distribution center in Denver......... Guess klipsch doesn't like ultimate progress on my quad 18's:
  12. These things are already wicked rigid. I'd do more bracing, but it's going to be hard for 2 guys to take 'em down stairs
  13. Is it mechanical noise or intermodulation distortion? Probably a combo of both, but I'd wager that they are pretty quiet if you pull them out of the cabinet and run them to full excursion in free air...or at least I'd hope they'd be quiet (which indicates that mechanical noise is low). probably so
  14. Usually in this situation I just run the amp in parallel (not bridged), which yields 4 ohms on each channel. With the xti 2000, what's the difference between putting 4 ohms on each channel, or just bridgeing it at 8ohms?
  15. was planning on having them each about 4 inches off, but it's obviously flexible, just where I cut the hole I already bought rubber feet for the walking, but any more opinions on opposing vs both forward?
  16. Sorry I offended you? I'll take measurements when I'm done, but at a total cost of under $1100, I can't imagine any sub, even diy is going to compete on most material. I'd rather have 16 tc3k's in those boxes, but I make 8.50. Oh, and I've seen and listened to high excursion drivers, tcsounds, adire audio, and I don't really care for the mechanical noise from the spider etc when excursion gets anymore than an inch, not that I'd turn it down though...
  17. Have a couple of options for mounting here (2 per box), both facing forward, opposing, or isobaric. I think I'm pretty set on opposing, but tell me if you think otherwise. Does it matter how high off the floor they are mounted? Thanks
  18. mine are just standard 2x2's, 80 feet worth
  19. mdf, bracing, poly-fil, and caulk are here!
  20. just bought a crown xti 2000, binding posts, special speaker sealing caulk, and rubber feet. whoooooooooo
  21. Haven't bought it yet, problem is, with 4 8ohm drivers, I can only do 2 or 8 ohms. No pro amps run at 2 ohms bridged. Crown xti 1000 or 2000 is next choice. Just a lot of money for $315 in drivers.
  22. The room im in now isn't on the internet anywhere, and the room I'll be in for the next 2 years as of a month from now isn't either. You're either thinking of my old dorm room, or banasikdrummer's room. Nevertheless, 10 liters of displacement for my room isn't outrageous (3000 cubic feet ish) AND keeping up with the rf-7's is just quite the task I know its going to play my music with all the authority I'd ever want, under 30hz has me a little worried, only because I had a bad experience with the diy world's answer for eq (behringer feedback destroyer- $80) thanks for the info about stuffing, do you think 1lb per cubic foot is what I should do, and how do I fasten it inside my box? I think I've read of people using chicken wire
  23. don't quite have the budget for 4 tcsounds drivers, but for $315, I got more displacement than an lms-5400, and sensitive to boot - with a buttkicker at 2 ohms, I should have everything in a very comfortable range of operation for my usual listening habits. <140db I think ive settled on 2 360L enclosures, with 2 mj's in each- sealed. (i'd love to do an ib, but it'll have to wait a few years) If the rolloff is just too steep I will investigate eq and/or porting it. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=154 anyone know of an inexpensive alternative to acousta-stuff poly fill? It'd be nice to get the fr to dig a little deeper, and I've read that adding about 1lb per cubic foot in sealed boxes can help a lot. (make the driver act like the box is something like 50% bigger) 26lbs is just too expensive. Should I buy fiberglass insulation at home depot?
  24. They'll be here tuesday, over 10 liters displacement peak to peak (total). Currently in the enclosure design stage. Thinking 2 boxes, LLT. Also shopping for amps. I want 1000-1500 watts, at either 2 or 8 ohms. Crown xti-1000 is looking good. Any ideas? Pics in a weekish.
  25. ebay seller only place I can find an rc-64.............
