  1. I've had Chorus I and still have Cornwalls - To me, very few speakers come close to the cornwalls in performance - got to love cornwalls.
  2. I know this is going to sound stupid, and I know the K-horns are supposed to go all the way into the corner - but I wanted to know if its okay if they stick 3-4 inches away from one of the walls. I was going to move my K-horns into the basement - one side I have a perfect corner but on the other side, I have this water radiated heat (which we no longer use) and so because of the radiator - I can not stick it all the way in the corner. This will cause the khorn to be about 4 inches away from one side of the wall. Is this going to have a huge impact on the sound?
  3. Thanks for posting PMsummer - Currently it has the Empire MC1 E cart. on it.
  4. mine should be here sometime next week
  5. Scott, Never had a turntable before - this is going to be more for learning experience. Its just that someone here at the forums mentioned the Miracord being pretty good. Right now I am not used to any time of sound (in terms on turntables that is). Thanks
  6. I spoke the guy about the current e-bay prices and he has decided to let me have it for $75 - which includes cover and once again, is in great condition - any thoughts please?
  7. I remember reading that at least one of the forum members (maybe PMSummer) here really likes the Miracord turntables. I have someone local selling me a Mirocord 50H Mark II for $150 - which seems like a steep price to me. Wanted to find out what the consensus of what should be the price of this unit. Please let me know what you guys think. They don't seem to be going that expensive on e-bay. This units appears to be in really good condition. Thanks
  8. I might give other units a chance in the near future - especially the Bottlehead Foreplay III - which has stellar reviews. For now, I purchased the Juicy Merlin from a fellow forum member - hopefully that should work out well.
  9. synth, The Merlin does not have the phono input - however, I decided to forego that for now in efforts of obtaining a pre-tube that is well regarded none the less. D
  10. Thanks for the recommendations guys. Although it was pushing my budget - it guess its well worth the price. Further, after noticing that Daddy Dee has 10,000+ posts - I thought maybe he know something about pre-amp and klipsch speakers. Thanks Daddy Dee.
  11. Sent the guy a PM and left contact info. Hopefully he will get back to me. Thanks for your advice Daddy Dee - much apprecaited.
  12. I just received an e-mail for Will Vincent that my Baldwin tube amp is ready. Now, I just need a pre-tube-amp. I was hoping you guys could give me some good recommendations. Since this is my first true venture into tubes - I am not looking to spend too much. Probaby around 350-550 is my range (the lower the better). Please let me know what you think.
  13. bump! I know most people are at work at the moment, but if anyone gets a chance to go home and measure the riser - I would really appreciate. If you know a link of the dimensions, that would help too. Thanks
  14. Hi all, I have pair of Heresy' that need a little bit of work. In efforts to restore them cosmetically, I wanted to add the missing risers. If anyone can quickly measure their risers for their heresy and post, I would really apprecaite it. Need: the width, the depth, the height in the front and the height in the back -
  15. "The Incredibles" has CRAZY bass - especially the "dash" scene. If you want to really test the performace of your subs (in a home theater enviroment), try watching: - "the lab" scene from the movie Pulse (movie is really stupid) - "Finding Nemo" - the scene where the girl is banging her finger on the fish tank - "War of the Worlds" - the scence when they show the machine come out the ground for the first time. All these scenes have incredible low frequency effects in them - they are all good test scenes. The subs i built can handle these scenes with ease. If you were to stop by my house, you would think i am a bass freak but that is definitly not the case - its just that I like bass to have presense - you should be able to feel the effects of the movies. Check out my mid bass configuration: http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x205/dkalsi/?action=view&current=MJ18.jpg - Now, they look crazy, but they really are not. 4 18" woofer tuned to 35Hz - I feed them little power - I don't keep them loud (keeping minimum power) - but I enjoy their mid bass punchyness - I just finished those last night - whole project cost me about 600.
  16. I, unfortunately, have never had the honor to meet Gary; but I have always heard very positive things about him from LarryC. I look forward to meeting him at the October get together.
  17. My cousin has a pair of Heresy's II and was curious if the HK 330c will suffice, I've always hear a lot of good stuff about the 430, 630, 730, etc, here at the forums but never anything about the 330c, Could you guys please share your thoughts.
  18. Take a look at the following thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=741140&page=1&pp=30 mine are very similar. Any the price I quoted above ($1,400) was for 2 subs. You can build one and use a cheaper amp (EP2500) and you will be more than set. People at the forums there are really really technical. If you follow the thread above, you can easily build one for yourself.
  19. I haven't really measured but I wouldnt be surprised if I am exceeding 120dbs at 15Hz with both of them combined. The drivers are 15" SVC TC-2000 with 800watt RMS in about 320 effective liters tuned to 14.5Hz. I am feeding then 1100watts each (although I never use that much). Come by if you are ever in the DC area.
  20. I would recommend you checking out the avsforums DIY subwoofer section. looking at other people's project, i was able to build two identical subwoofer using TC-Sounds drivers powered with a QSC pro amp - the whole project (including materials, drivers, amp) cost me about $1,400. However, I have absolutely flat response down to about 14Hz. You have to hear/feel it to believe it. http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x205/dkalsi/?action=view&current=IMG_4702.jpg http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x205/dkalsi/?action=view&current=DualSubs.jpg
  21. As many agree, the Heresy's definately need to be supplemented with a subwoofer to get hat full range sound. What I wanted to know was if the Heresy's have a built in high-pass crossover at say 65Hz? If they do, then I can simply use a pre-out of my receiver and hook up extra subwoofer. However, if the Hesery's do not have a high-pass filter - then, in order to protect them from low fequencies, I will either need a receiver with "Sub-Out"- where I can set the cut off point on my receiver, or I have to buy and external crossover. Basically, what I am asking is for those who have, no "Sub-Out" on your vintage tube receivers, but have "pre-outs" - are you just using the pre-outs to hook the subwoofer or is there a different approach to this?
  22. I just received in the mail today my Trends 10.1 modified. I bought it off of audiogon - paid $150 for it (I know thats the price of one brand new). But this trends is modified with upgraded caps. Furthermore, its battery powered as oppose to your regular wall outlet Hooked it up to my Cornwall - UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!! LarryC - you got to stop by my friend (its no comparison to your tubes - khorn setup - but man - Definitely AWESOME!) The Trend 10.1 has officially replaced my Marantz 2285 (which is available for sale - although someone is coming to look at it tomorrow).
  23. I bet your setup is unreal but man - I own a pair of Khorns myself but I could never imagin giving up my cornwalls - like i said before, I don't care if people say it has "loose bass" or is unaccurate or whatever, to my ears - the sound of the cornwalls is absolutely perfect - those are the speakers that made me hardcore Klipsch fan.
  24. Frznintz, Just as you said - pulled out the tweeters and tested with an Ohm meter and no reading at all. I just placed an order for the titanium diaphragms from Bob C. hopefully that should do the trick and I am hoping they are not too difficult to install. I will keep all posted on how that goes. D
