  1. I'm assuming that you are referring the double binding post you have on your RF-82's. They are used for bi-amping your speakers. Basically allowing you to put a separate amp to the tweeter and woofers. Most center channel speakers do not have bi-amping connections. Not sure why. From what I have read, many people tend to not see much difference between bi-amping and using the jumper connectors that come with the speakers.
  2. I just downloaded the owners manual and I'm not sure I understand it either. Not sure why there are different THD and power ratings. Anyone here care to explain?
  3. That makes no sense to me. Why does BB carry the RF-82 and hook it up to the RC-52 and not even carry the RC-62.
  4. Not at all, besides this is like a cold, you have to talk to people to spread the disease. James [] Never looked at it that way before James. He is right though. All of us are here because we love audio and we enjoy helping each other out. We all have been on the receiving end so it's good to give back.
  5. Yeah, over the past year, Onkyo has put together some really good bang for your buck, high feature receivers. Did you notice the Onkyo 605 can process DD Plus, TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio? You won't find too many receivers in that kind of price range that offer HDMI 1.3 and the new HD Audio formats.
  6. Absolutely and here is why. Remember what I said about 50 watts of clean power is better than 100 watts of garbage? Sony DG910 (Total Harmonic Distortion - 1%) Onkyo TX-SR605 (Total Harmonic Distortion - .01%) Would you rather have 1% of distortion or .01%? That's a huge difference!
  7. I TOLD YOU!!! You've already been infected. [+o(] Call the Medic! [] When you say "receivers with the right amount of power", any of the receivers I pointed out have enough power to drive your speakers. More power means more headroom, less opportunity for distortion. Don't get me wrong, more power is good (when it's clean power). There are guys driving large Klipsch speakers with 2 watt tube amps. They say 1 clean watt will seriously crank your speakers. Above my head but that's what they say. Many Klipsch owners love their Denon (I have no experience with them). Many love the Yammie too. I did not suggest the Yammie because there were none on Vanns.com that was in your budget.
  8. What's up neighbor! Welcome to the forums! Nice setup you have there. Could you add another Cornwall as your center?
  9. Yes, I think you will get a much fuller sound with the RF-62's than the bookshelf speaker. I am a fan of floor standing speakers over bookshelves if you have the room and the wife doesn't mind. You do not need to buy stands for them, the tweeter is close to ear level when sitting and let's face it....they just look cooler. [] Awesome! I was looking at the list price. Guess you had to add it to cart to see the sale price. I corrected the prices in my above post and added the Onkyo TX-SR-605 to the list. It is $100 off so you can get it for $400 and still be well within your budget! Just check out the specs between them to see which one has the best features for the money.
  10. One warning about Klipsch. Going with Klipsch is a little risky. Many people have experienced and suffered from a serious illness called "Upgradeitis". I myself was stuck by this wicked disease. I went in and listened to a pair of RB-61 bookshelf speaker. I made the dreaded mistake of listening to their complete lineup including the RF-7's and RF-83's. I was hit hard...almost took me out but I survived. I did have a breakdown though and just recently ordered the RF-83's. It's vicious bro. Whatever you do.....if you do not want to get infected with it, stay away from your local Klipsch dealer's demo room. []
  11. I forgot to mention....I am a recent Klipsch convert. Now I'm a Klipscher for life! [] If you can, I would go for the RF-62 setup instead of the RB-51 setup. Welcome to the madness.
  12. I have used Pioneer, Onkyo, and now an HK. Personally, I have never been a fan of Sony receivers. They make great camcorders, cameras, TV's and DVD players. I love Sony...just not for audio. Check out these that are within your budget. Any of these would be great for your setup. All prices below include FREE Shipping too. *Not in any particular order. Denon AVR-588 - $350 Denon AVR-688 - $450 Denon AVR-1508 - 350 Harman Kardon AVR-147 - $300 Onkyo TX-SR574 - $280 Onkyo TX-SR575 - $300 Onkyo TX-SR605 - $395 Any of the above receivers would rock those Klipsch Speakers! I used to think that only a receiver with 100 watts or greater was a good receiver. How wrong I was. 55 watts of clean power is way better than 100 watts of garbage. Onkyo has put out some great bang for your buck receivers and if you are on a tight budget, might be worth checking into. I loved mine when I had it and I really love my HK AVR-55. It only has 55 w/ch and it is PLENTY loud and clear for movies and music and my towers have four 8" woofers that it is having to push. Again...clean power is what you are looking for. Best of luck with your new setup. Be sure to post pics when you get it all together.
  13. What are your main speakers? Although they are similar, they are made to pair up with different speakers. Take a look at the RC-62 page and the RC-35 page. If you look at the bottom left of each page, you will see "Related Products". These are speakers that will match up with the center channel.
  14. Welcome to the forums! (aka the Madness) Your question is a common one. The most important thing is to at least match the front three speakers. If you mix match them, when sound pans across (from left, to center, to the right) you will hear a difference in the sound and will sound unnatural. You want it to pan seamlessly through the three speakers. Manufacturers make sets of speakers that are timbre matched. As far as recommendations, I recommend Reference all the way. You could pick up the RF-82's with a RC-62 and probably get away using your SS-1's for awhile until you can save up for some reference rears (maybe RB-51's or RB-61's). It helps too that the copper woofers on the Reference line look sweeter than the Synergy series.
  15. The first time I heard the RC-82's it was at Best Buy and they had the RC-52 setup with it (which is not the correct center for the RF-82). To me, it could not keep up with the demands of the movie we were watching. It sounded weak and did not have the "in your face" sound I was looking for. I have listened to the RC-62 in a home theater store and I liked it much better and the RC-64 was just absolutely amazing. This could be due to the fact that BB had the system running off a Yamaha AVR and the home theater store had them running off the same Yamaha receiver but had it hooked up to a 200 w/ch amp. I've never been fond of 5 1/4 in speakers for a center channel.
  16. Yes they do. Sunfire TGA-7400 is 400 x 7 Sunfire TGA-7200 is 200 x 7
  17. The RF-83's have a 100db sensitivity and my CF-2's has a 98db sensitivity The RC-64 has a 99db sensitivity and my KV-3 has a 95db sensitivity. From my understanding, the higher the sensitivity, the easier it is to drive the speakers but what exactly does this mean? I have heard some say that in order to increase 3db you have to double the amplification. Does this mean that since the KV-3 and RC-4 have a 4db difference that it will be similar to me doubling the power of my HK Receiver?
  18. Looks like the Rotel and B&K only have up to 200x7 for multichannel amps. Outlaw Audio 7900 which is 300 x 7. Lexicon ZX-7 offers a 300 x 7 Adcom GFA 7807 offers 300 x 7 QSC CX404 offers a 250 x 4
  19. Welcome to the Madness Fastlane! You have an excellent setup there. With the Ultra 2's, I would definitely go with a pre/pro instead of an AVR. Many guys recommend the B&K amps. The B&K 200.7 would be a sweet match for your speakers. Many others have suggested Outlaw Audio for amps and pre/pro. Rotel also is highly recommended around here. If it were me, I would drive the Ultra 2's with a 200 w/ch amp. Please post some pics when you get it setup.
  20. I would think that 130 w/ch would do much better than my 55 w/ch but totally agree with you that even at 130 w/ch, a good clean external amp will yield much better results. I hooked up a QSC amp recently to my setup and it sold me on the idea of using a separate amp. Just trying to decide what is the best move in the meantime. Still waiting to hear back from my dealer on whether my 83's came in yet. He was checking with the guy that placed the order. Really hoping I can pick it up today or tomorrow.
  21. Good suggestion. Yes I showed my youth ministry the movie Facing the Giants. Awesome movie. Starts out slow and acting is not as good as "Hollywood" but considering it was put on by a church and their members and it has an incredible message, the movie was fantastic.
  22. Question for ya. Why would you buy a new receiver instead of a dedicated processor? Just depends on what my budget will allow. [] Very new to the concept of using separates. Looking into it though. I know I definitely want an external amp, even if my receiver had 140 w/ch.
  23. No shame. It will be a little bit before I am able to purchase an amp or the center channel since I will need to sell my CF-2's and KV-3 first. It's the only way I can convince my wife to let me get some new toys.
  24. I will. It will serve as my pre/pro for at least 1 year.
